The Daily Planet - Superman: Legacy News and Speculation Thread

NGL, the abundance of For All Seasons inspiration is starting to become a tad worrying for me lol. The art and wholesomeness are the only two things that make that story so beloved imo. And since we know David won’t look anything like that Supes visually, my fingers are crossed that the wholesomeness is what he’s focused on here. Because as a story? It’s as extremely “meh” to me as anything written by Jeph Loeb, tbh.

I do hope it means we’re getting sky walkways in Metropolis, though!

He's never adapted a single comic's storyline directly so I think it's more about the vibes for him, same with All-Star Superman, I don't expect the movie's story to resemble any of those two at all, especially with The Authority and those JL members present.

Gunn has a strong enough voice that I can't imagine him adapting anything too directly. I'd imagine the movies story will be more in line with his own personal recurring themes and interests than anything else. I doubt it'll be of a total tonal piece with his other movies for obvious reasons but it'll probably deal with a lot of the same themes and tropes. For better or worse, depending on your opinions of them.

I think we'll see more of the sllice-of-life aspect for FAS, which I'd be very happy about.

There's been enough smoke about that middle east plot to think there's probably truth to it, not to mention a casting call of a dictator character; but the terrorist stuff always sounded off.
Why would he lie?

I didn't say he lied. The question was about terrorists in the middle east, which I don't think there will be, just something that involves the middle east since there is a casting call for a middle eastern dictator.

While I remain optimistic for now, yeah, I can't say that I'm thrilled about the Authority and this movie being overstuffed with random DC characters instead of Superman's actual supporting cast.

Lois, Jimmy and Perry are the bare minimum in any Superman media, I'm talking Cat Grant, Maggie Sawyer, Bibbo Bibbowski, Ron Troupe, and many more.
Well, what do you know.

Gonna be a massive cast. Like he said before, Kent is more or less gonna be dealing with colleagues at two different jobs.

Not knowing anything else, I guess these are the characters in Legacy left to be cast/announced:
-Jimmy Olsen
-Lex Luthor
-Eve Trestmatcher
-Perry White
-Steve Lombard
-Cat Grant
-Jack Hawksmoor
-The Doctor
-The dictator figure in casting calls.
-Brainiac
-Ma Kent
[BGCOLOR=initial]-Jor-El[/BGCOLOR]
[BGCOLOR=initial]-Pa Kent?[/BGCOLOR]
-General Lane?
-Supergirl?

Agreed, I too found the whole story to be a bit "middle of the road", give me Wolfman's Man and superman origin anyday. Although I do have to say that the story's massive viral outbreak climax is eearily relevant considering what we've all been though in the last 3 years but I'm not a fan of how hopeless and hapless Superman was shown when trying to deal with the problem. Bronze age Superman in Superman 363 did a far better job IMO.

Gunn answered quite a few questions yesterday. Here's a chain with most (if not all) of them:

It's interesting that Gunn said they're "running out of characters" to announce casting for, seeing as they've only cast seven actors so far.

He also confirmed we won't see the suit until they've started production in March.

Maybe he means they're running out of characters he's already cast? Because between the rest of the Stormwatch members, Daily Planet co-workers, the Kents, etc there's still a lot missing.

That's the only thing that makes sense really. Unless he just doesn't consider many of these roles worth "special announcements" and will simply be included in a start of production press release.
