Mr. Terrific?

Note: This is a video of a stunt rehearsal and doesn't include costumes or anything:

Looking like some T-sphere action with the guys getting hit but no contact.

I am a Superhero. I am a Superhero, SuperHan. I am a Superhero!

I initially thought this was the Volume, but apparently James Gunn is not a fan of it.

He said it was captured all in camera so what would it be if not the volume or some volume equivalent like rear projection? Maybe a poster, but then that would definitely support the idea that it was only for a photo shoot and not from the movie.

Imagine Dragons will be doing the movie theme. I'm calling it now. :o

Happy 11th birthday to Man of Steel, the best not movie, but lead-up to a Superman movie there ever was. I still watch that Comic Con trailer sometimes. :awesome:

At the time it released, I was barely in my 20s and was all for an action packed, gritty/darker take on Superman. By the time the first release of JL came out, I was ready for the traditional take on the character to come back. I still enjoy Man of Steel, but there's some things that just bother me to no end in that film.

I think where we are at currently in the world, we really need an inspirational, caring, true to the core boy scout. I think when MoS released, the boy scout version may have not worked (it could have, but if there was any time to try something different, I think it was then.) Now we have missed the traditional version of the character long enough, people who may have mocked it are more open to it. Just my thoughts. Could be way off based haha.

I’m of the opinion that if a filmmaker doesn’t think that the core tenets of a character “won’t work” then they shouldn’t do the film.

I’m hopeful that we have an accurate take of the characters that isn’t ashamed of who the Kents, and Clark and Lex are at their core this time around.

Precisely.

Look, I don’t think that Snyder is the Antichrist, but not even his most hardcore fanboy can deny that he clearly has contempt to the traditional Superman and wants to “fix” the character.

Anyone making a movie about a character whose fundamental purpose is to be an archetype for different creatives to reinterpret to suit their own voices should prioritize remaking the character in their own image within reason. That's what these characters are for, I don't really view them as solidly defined characters in their own rights anymore especially at this exhausted, late stage in the genre. It's just whether or not what they come up with is ****ing terrible or not. If the Snyder movies had been well written there isn't a single Superman related decision he made I wouldn't happily defend.

I don't look at it like adapting a novel or source material of that nature, really. More of just a broad framework of concepts and characters.

This comment made me have a quick dive into the sub. As someone who genuinely enjoys MOS, i thought the general reception to that film was negative on here (one of the reasons i joined the hype) but ive been taken back by some of those ranking lists around that time (Some are actually comical) I guess most were done immediately before the dust settled but interesting to see nevertheless.

P.S Does the pixelated D.P mean the users have quit/deactivated the hype.

Something I thought about now, could this scene be a flashback from the time Lionel was still the head of the company, and Lex has already renamed it LexCorp on present day?

I've been thinking, it seems likely that we're avoiding the whole origin, krypton sequence this time, so, what about having the opening credits be the pages of a comic turning, but the images we see actually move?

We see krypton. a huge city is before us, mile high buildings go off in the distance as far as the eye can see.
large ships slowly fly overhead in a red tinged sky.
The Page turns.

We see baby Kal. He looks up at the faces of lara and jor-el, Who are lovingly looking down at him. He slowly reaches a hand up.
They hold him.
the Page turns.

We see jor-el before the council, with an angry look on his face. He throws a stack of papers to the floor at their feet.
He turns and walks off.
The Page turns.

We see that Krypton is partially on fire. Buildings are collapsing all around from earthquakes.
Jor-el and lara hurriedly place baby Kal in a small car sized ship. They kiss him goodbye.
The Page turns.

We see a ship blast into space. Behind it, we see all of krypton. It suddenly explodes.
The Page turns.

We then see Earth before us.
Closer. Now America.
Closer. Now Kansas.
The ship crashes in a field close to a mid 30ish couple that's farming.
The page turns.

we see the farming couple. They think a plane has crashed.
The man points to the smoke in a field. They run toward it.
Page turns.

We see baby Kal.
We see the couple look down at Kal and smile. He reaches a hand up to them.
The couple look at each other.
They are then seen holding the baby.
The Page turns.

We see the farmer. It's night.
He's on a tractor, hauling the ship into his barn.
We then see him bury it.
His wife stands nearby, watching.
Shes holding little Kal, who's wrapped in red and blue blankets.
The Page turns.

Etc etc.

If you wanted, you could even show his first couple of years in metropolis, Lex, supes fighting metallo, intergang, etc.

End it with Clark at the DP, and transition to live action. It all would last less than a few minutes.

Can't remember if I posted this same idea here or somewhere else, but something similar to Spider-Man 2's opening credits recapping SM1 would be awesome, imo. Already basing the Superman suit off of Alex Ross KC suit, maybe hit him up for the opening illustration too haha!

I think something similar to that would be cool. STM started off with a comic, pages turning.

The bigger issue is if James Gunn will present a toothless version of Superman to appease the general public.

We've seen that happen again and again. People hated the Jim Carrey Grinch movie, the Johnny Depp Wonka movie, the Bill Murray Garfield movies. They loved the Boris Karloff Grinch, the Gene Wilder Wonka, and the Lorenzo Music, they got offended that the creators would try to do something risky and different them. Then what happened? The studios gave in and delivered toothless, edgeless features like the Benedict Cumberbatch Grinch, the Timothee Chalamet Wonka, and the Chris Pratt Garfield. Inoffensive, without style or creativity or risks, and people accepted them because they don't like anything new. They were very similar to the versions they grew up with.

My fear is that Gunn will try to emulate the Reeve Superman and not try to do something risky like Snyder did for Cavill's Superman.

I think Gunn has made it clear through most of his statements that this is a unique superman we haven't seen. Gunn seems to have a flavor all his own when he's adapting characters so I can see his statements ringing true.
