So, I think this might be my favourite comic book film in a long, long time.
I had some teary-eyed moments, in this film. Seeing Clark in his room with Ma and Pa Kent by his side - seeing the love of the three of them and the humble humility of Clark/Superman done justice so well, it felt so right. It's just seeing it realized was a gem of a moment, for me.
It's just...wholesome.
Seeing Superman be so heroic that he'll rescue a damn squirrel? Seeing him care so much and just want to be good because...just because? That he can be so corny and so likable? I wish that was more the case now, and seeing it manifested in an iconic, heroic aspirational figure feels rare in a time that embraces the anti-hero more and more.
Seeing him stand up and just be earnest and honest about who he is was just golden. Yes, it's simple - but the simplicity of goodness seems under attack these days. So it's kinda needed.
This film, whatever flaws you may feel it has, fundamentally gets Superman and these characters in a way I've never seen on film before.
And no matter how it does at the box office or how many people pretend that it's a bad film because of whatever agenda they have - this film exists. And we will always have it.
It can't be taken away now and I'm so grateful that it belongs to us, no matter what the future of the DCU is.
