Really? I think its the other way around. Scarecrow barely resembles the comic counterpart (in name and interest in fear only), and Ras is also extremely different. bane however, as much as I can tell from what we've seen so far, seems to be the original comic book Bane to a T

The villains in BB were not different from the comics, imo. Just... how do I put this? Partially presented, I guess. There was no depth (or screentime) to them other than the purpose they served in the plot.

As for Bane, I think his character's core will be there (which is the most important part). But visually he looks nothing like Bane. A good thing, mind you, but the fact remains he's vastly different.

Eh, the venom tubing and mask were holding Bane back, in my opinion. While this departure can be defined as radical (appearance-wise), it was a necessary one at that.

Nolan's interpretation of Bane appears far more chilling.

I agree with you. I don't think it's a bad thing. Just like the Burton Penguin was more interesting to me than the comics Penguin, I think Nolan changed Bane for the better.

I, somewhat, agree to these types of statements. Both Tom Hardy and Bane are figuratively unknown to the general audience... but boy are they in for a treat when Hardy/Bane goes ballistic and breaks Batman.

Now this may be UK but I'd say Hardy is quite a well known name now. Inception got him out there and in the UK people in the biz. raved about his performance which sort of got him in the spotlight and now Tinker Tailor and Warrior have been released AND the fact he's the next villain in an extremely popular franchise he seems to be that step below household name but certainly well known.
Right or wrong I don't see how anyone can disagree with your actual point, Tom is going to smash it.

Well, as far as Scarecrow he isn't an old, incredibly skinny and tall college professor set on revenge on the University that he taught at, Owns/works in Arkham, Is a criminal psychiatrist, Works with Falcone and Ra’s, When gassed with his own poison Crane sees a demon in Batman, but his biggest fear in the comic books were birds (and later bats) and the list goes on

As far as Bane, I only see similarities as of now. Genius planning, intelligence, strength and skills, comes from oversees and from the way he talks it seems like he has that pompous, smug and cruel attitude like his comic book counterpart does

2010-2012 is the period where Hardy will stop being the "English guy from Inception" and will become "Tom Hardy". He's getting there.

It looks like the trailer will show up online on Tuesday.

But do we know for sure if Bane wont be using venom and that his mask doesnt supply him with it? Its a legitimate question. I know visually Bane is different like all of Nolans villains, but as far as personality...

Definitely.

Not to mention he has Mad Max coming up next. I think after that most should know him as "Tom Hardy".

Although I personally think the role of Bane will define him for a while.

All these are as irrelevant to me as the Joker wearing make-up and not using laughing gas and toys in TDK. Nolan's Scarecrow is undeniably a coward who used fear to overpower his opponents. He was just not given enough time to be explored thoroughly like (again) the Joker.

Notice that I talked about his appearance and not his core. So we're in agreement... for the most part. He sounds nothing like the Bane I "hear" while reading the comics.

Of course. That sums up what I said pretty much.
2010 - English guy from Inception
2011- Next Batman villain, star of Warrior, included in a plethora of British legends (and Benedict Cumberbatch ) in TTSS
2012 - Household name as Bane

I dunno... I'd wait for 2013/2014 before Tom Hardy is a household name.

Happy Feet underperformed. Miller will be lucky if he gets 80% of the budget for the new Mad Max movie.

I seen the prologue.
Meh.
Looked alright I suppose.
Him having the same voice that the faithful said was just Hardy messing around and would be changed, made me lol in the theater. ;)

A bit of an exaggeration there.

WB is one of the more forgiving studios out there. Look no further than Zack Snyder.

The fact that Hardy is still attached to this and that Miller in the past has handed in more movies that have turned in a profit than not will probably tilt the bar towards WB still providing whatever budget is needed.

Not really worried about the project in terms of budget.

But we're not talking about look and attributes here. We're not talking about the full scarcrow suit with a hat or skulls spewing gas. We're talking about the essence of the character. Just like Jokers goal was to create chaos and anarchy and he had no real goals that he would benefit from, the Scarecrow was an intelligent college professor who was being outcast all his life thus not being a social person. He was driven by revenge and ego, he couldnt stand that the board didnt understand him either like all the people throughout his life and he wanted to prove something for them. The BB character was someone completely different. Its a pawn psychologist/asylum owner who was able to weaponize flowers

opinion invalid.

Just like Jokers goal was to create chaos and anarchy and he had no real goals that he would benefit from, same with Scarecrow who was an intelligent college professor who was being outcast all his life thus not being a social person. That's what I mean when I say "partially presented". He was a very basic and shallow character, but his essence was there. Scarecrow's essence was not where we used to work (a professor), or what drove him initially (the revenge against the university). In the comics the University is really a drop in the ocean, it's a starting point for the character. Not important, imo. His ego was there in BB. Again, not adequately explored, but it was there. As was his intelligence. His core was there, he was just shallow.
