I think you can safely upgrade from “dropped” to “cratered” here. What a mess.Movie dropped 83%.

So much for casual audiences finding it decent. As the damage control crew kept warning us about.
It can out in a crowded month.Well...this had the misfortune of coming out after Avengers: Endgame. Might be tough for any superhero movie to do well right then. People had just had their fill of that kind of film.
Gotta agree here. And both Far From Home and Lion King are looking to do big bank at the box office in the crowded market. The simple reality was that this installment just wasn't piquing enough of the audience interest. It always looked small and kind of bland with none of the big event feel of Days Of Future Past had to draw people to see it. To the average audience member this just looked like any other X-Film therefore a lot of people skipped it. Which us why the MCU X-Men film has to feel fresh and new in order to renew audience interest which makes me think we won't see Magneto for awhile(though they might set him up down the line for a third film). So did Aladdin. Not a good excuse.
The fact that Aquaman, Black Panther are billion dollar grossers and while superhero movies which had well-known characters like BvS and Justice League couldn't join the billion dollar club tells you something. The X-Men need a fresh take if they are to stay relevant. The first MCU X-film needs to give audiences something new and explore different facets of the comics never touched upon by Fox. Of course, one shouldn't expect an MCU X-film to hit the billion dollar finish line right out the gate. Since obviously you need to build the brand back up but soon the potential for X-Men to be the biggest franchise in Marvel will become apparent and the only way to realize that potential is to evolve and change things up because (as the underperformance of 'Apocalypse' has shown) audiences don't want to see the same stuff over and over again. You gotta stay one step ahead of your audience and give them a dish they've never been served before or else they'll feel things are getting stale. This is exactly where we are with the current main series after 'Apocalypse' with 'Dark Phoenix'.
I'm willing to bet my entire comic collection that a film based on a B-lister like Captain Marvel will easily outgross Dark Phoenix because Captain Marvel is taking Marvel to uncharted territory with a female protagonist that subverts the origin story formula while Dark Phoenix looks like any other X-Men movie -- How can any audience member look at that abysmal excuse for a trailer not be like "Boring! Been there! Done That!"
Not an excuse. Just a potentially contributing factor. So did Aladdin. Not a good excuse.

Really? Even most of the people who were optimistic about the film would be skeptical of anything that approaches DOFP’s box office after Apocalypse couldn’t reach that mark.My God Dark Phoenix will end up making less then 80M in America and nobody voted for that option up until now. I voted long time ago that would make over 700m worldwide.
People just don't care about replacement cast that much when it comes to Marvel cb films. There's definitely a pattern here. Nobody wanted a reboot/replacement cast from foX yet they insisted in shoving the First Class cast in our throats. Its like with Andrew Garfield with Spider-Man and the Fant4stic cast. A Spider-Man 4 movie and Fantastic Four Three would have been more successful just like a X-Men 5 and X-Men siX. There's only few eXceptions that I could think of that worked (they are characters appearing in the MCU). In hindsight the first two films just with the First Class cast comparing to this Dark PhoeniX flop, still had okay numbers, but Dark PhoeniX is really dropping like a rock. And its crazy that its not even gonna outgross the first two Fantastic Four films (worldwide and domestic) Xpecially after years of inflation, China, IMAX, premium cinemas, 3D and 4DX.People just don’t care about this cast.
Yeah, I am sure no one is going to go see Spider-Man in a couple of weeks.Well...this had the misfortune of coming out after Avengers: Endgame. Might be tough for any superhero movie to do well right then. People had just had their fill of that kind of film.
You are confusing Fox crapping the bed with Last Stand and Origins, with the cast. First Class had to save the series.I was thinking 110 million in North America with mid to low 40s ow. And a 350 to 400 million worldwide. I also eXpected a 40 something rating in RT. Wow. And people said I was negative, but my predictions weren't even that bad compare to the actual results. And the cinemascore rating of B- when no one X-Men even got a rating lower than B+ before 2019.

I just hope, when Marvel Studios reboot both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, they would recover quickly just like Spider-Man and get the public's interest. Its almost unbelievable to me that Kinberg managed to screw up my top two Marvel ips in the movies and both of them get/got disastrous/flop numbers. Geez. FoX could have learned a lot more of previous cbm fails and the success of the MCUbut here we are in 2019, a X-Men film flopping so hard.
Although I know what you mean, it still didn’t though. FC still “boasts” the franchise’s lowest domestic total, even unadjusted for inflation.First Class had to save the series.
75 million... thats just 19million higher than Fant4stic's domestic gross. Yikes!Box Office: 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Plunges Record 83% On Friday
Jesus.... the bolded part. Dark Phoenix may not be a disaster from a quality standpoint but its undeniably a disaster from a box office standpoint.
It had to show they could still make decent movies. That is basically the legacy of First Class and The Wolverine. Can DoFP happen without them? Probably not.Although I know what you mean, it still didn’t though. FC still “boasts” the franchise’s lowest domestic total, even unadjusted for inflation.
Well lowest until DPh.
Really. I really thought that because I thought this movie was going to be awesome and surpass Apocalypse in every way. And yet, I got say. X-Men Apocalypse have better action scenes than this movie but this movie got the character on the title better.Really? Even most of the people who were optimistic about the film would be skeptical of anything that approaches DOFP’s box office after Apocalypse couldn’t reach that mark.
Magneto yes, but Xavier is a founding cornerstone. Like Cyclops he must be in the film.If I were in charge of the MCU reboot I'd have BOTH Erik and Chuck "Missing and Presumed Dead" for at least the first two installments.
