DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

That's not how Hollywood works. Cavill is back as Superman for two films because that's all his contract says. He's filmed them. That means he has as many Superman appearances he's contracted for as he did after JL - exactly zero. If they want him, they need to sign him again. I think they will, but at the moment he is not signed for a Superman film. That is confirmed by every single trade.

So there is no script, no director, no star, no date, no announcement. That means that currently there is no movie.

Also just because a script is written doesn't mean a project has the greenlight. Superman: Flyby, Green Arrow: SuperMax, Ava Duvernay's New Gods, David Goyer's Flash, Gavin O'Connor's Suicide Squad, David Ayer's Gotham City Sirens, Emerald Fennell's Zatanna, Chris McKay's Nightwing and countless other DC films are testament to that.

A movie has not got the greenlight until the people with the power to greenlight it have read the script and given it a budget. On Jenkins' own words, that hasn't happened yet. It's been ANNOUNCED - but so was Cyborg's solo film.

Cavil never said he was signed on to do just 2 cameos and is not confirmed that he just signed on for 2 cameos, that's never been official anywhere. He flat out said that there is a lot more Superman coming, a lot more isnt a cameo in The Flash. He would not be returning just for some cameos. Don't need a crystal ball to see that.
“A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. The dawn of hope renewed,” Cavill wrote in the caption. “Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.”

His words. Not mine.

You want to say that every official source out there has Cavill only returning for 2 cameos yet you ignore every official site stating we are getting WW3.

Diana Prince is officially heading back to the big screen for a third “Wonder Woman” movie. Warner Bros. has fast-tracked development on another installment in the DC Comics franchise, with Gal Gadot returning to star as the title heroine and Patty Jenkins back to write and direct the concluding entry in the superhero trilogy.
'Wonder Woman 3' in the Works With Director Patty Jenkins - Variety

When I said hello to Jenkins and congratulated her on being an unstoppable force with Gadot for what is soon to become a Wonder Woman trilogy of films, Jenkins responded by saying, “Thank you! So happy to hear that. I appreciate that. We can’t wait to get the next movie out, too.” Gadot quickly followed up from Jenkins’ remarks by saying in an excited tone, “We’re talking! We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”

"And so, where I said that I was only going to do one, then oh my god, I have to do two. And then, I find myself saying, ‘Oh my god, I’m antsy to do three.’ And so, even now, I say, ‘That’s it’ because I always plan a three-movie arc. There is a story that goes through these three different movies as a whole. But even now, I just wrote last week the final scene of Wonder Woman 3 and I thought, I might be interested to see what happens next. So you’ll never know. They have asked us to think of ways to do more and it accidentally happens. But you’ll never know. I have a lot of other films that I’m excited to do as well. And I love Gal Gadot so that makes it better too."

Third time’s the charm! Wonder Woman 3 officially has the green light — and Warner Bros. has already revealed some juicy details about the superhero film.

(3) Direct a Suicide Squad vs Black Adam movie;

Lol that could be fun.

Maybe Waller sends Task Force X into Khandaq on a mission knowing full well that they’ll run into Black Adam and cause an international incident which will, in turn, bring Superman into the fold—as those two duke it out, Task Force X is clear to carry out its mission just as Waller planned…

Interesting development. Not sure how it will pan out in the long run, but am just glad it isn’t Snyder. That’s a plus for me.

Also, Gunn’s choice of music for his projects are great, if this means more of that, then thats another plus for me. :D :oldrazz:

He’s certainly been great with music choices.

Devin Faraci reports Henry Cavill’s role in The Flash is much bigger than people realize. He was added recently via reshoots and Sasha Calle’s role as Supergirl has been greatly diminished as a result.

I dont believe for a second Cavill himself would make such a definitive announcement about him being back if he didnt get WB to greenlight his own movie under his terms. Cavill's been refusing to do cameos for Shazam and Peacemaker etc this whole time, there's no way he'd come back just to pop up in two other people's movies.

I dont believe that Flash rumor. She acted against the actual actors and thats a lot to reshoot.

Her role was always a small one according to one of the test screening leakers.

We know she was part of team flash/batman and part of the reason he sees he's in a new timeline. Reshooting that goes against the film and wouldnt make sense considering majority of her screentime would come in to my knowledge.

Faraci is a scumbag but he’s a good reporter. He’s always been on point.

Gal Gadot: Lynda Carter's 'Wonder Woman 3' Role Is 'Even Better This Time'

You're welcome

This is all just wishful thinking.

(1) Cavill said "Hope Renewed". No trade (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc.) reports anything without checking with the studio first. Every trade says that Cavill signed on for two cameos. No source, official or even reputable, says he has signed a deal for anything other than those two cameos. With that in mind, everything Cavill said in his video is still accurate. Until you can find me a reputable source that says Cavill is signed on for a Man of Steel 2, it just isn't true.

(2) The Variety article says Wonder Woman 3 is in development with Patty Jenkins. It is. Patty Jenkins also has a Star Wars movie in development, and a Cleopatra movie. The latter two are all but cancelled and Wonder Woman hasn't been greenlit. As I said about, DC has so many films that are in development or have been in development and went nowhere. The Flash movie that was filmed is like the FOURTH Flash movie that was "in development" with Ezra Miller attached. Again, no source, official or reputable, says that Wonder Woman 3 has been given the greenlight.

They may be greenlit tomorrow. But they aren't now and its clinging to false hope to believe they are. Everything you posted proves my point. I appreciate your optimism, but there's no point gilding the lilly on any of this.

Jenkins has a script but she turned it in mere weeks ago. That movie will not be greenlit until James Gunn and Peter Safran read the script, approve it and assign it a budget.

Other DC films "in development" - The Amazons (Jenkins), Black Canary (Green), Booster Gold (Berlanti/Stentz - that script was completed and turned in in 2018), Green Lantern (Johns), Lobo (Fuchs), Metal Men (Sonnenfield), Nightwing (McKay), Plastic Man (Idoko), Static Schock (McKinnon), Zatanna (Fennell).

How many of those do you think will be made? Just because it's been written does not mean it is greenlit and does not mean it will be made. WW3 has a particular cloud over it because of WW84. I'm not saying I don't think WW3 will be made, but it's false to say that Patty Jenkins will be making WW3. Her script could easily be rejected if its WW84 quality.

Dont believe it, Flick. Like @Primal Slayer just said they’d have to refilm a LOT for Cavill to essentially replace Sasha. Trust me she’s still going to very much be in the movie. I think Cavill’s just adding a coda or two.
Seriously if this turns out to be true, I have to ask, "you guys can afford to reshoot Sasha's scenes, but not Ezra's?"

I will say if this is truly a 4 year deal....that also makes no sense because how many films/animated series will they get off the ground in 4 years? Especially since it takes a year to get a movie like these into production, 6 months to film, a year for post. animated series can take up to 2 years...

Yet you still come with no source saying he signed on for two cameos. And you tried to use two words out of everything he said so I'll put it here again "A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends. You ignored every source confirming WW3 is a go. It isnt in production but its 100000% happening as they've all said so enjoyt he receipts I posted in my last post because they are all there, all the words. Its been fun.

The Hollywood Reporter:
Heat Vision (hollywoodreporter.com)
We, like others, are buzzing about the post-credits scene for Black Adam, but will it lead anywhere? The actor involved made a one-off deal, sources tell Heat Vision, though the studio is definitely interested in more from the star (including a solo outing).

The Hoillywood Reporter
Superman: Henry Cavill Back for More Movies After Black Adam – The Hollywood Reporter
Though there are no writers or director attached, the intention is for Cavill to star in at least one solo Superman movie, his first since 2013’s Man of Steel. Other movie appearances could potentially follow as DC Films gets an overhaul under new Warners film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.

Deadline
Henry Cavill Returning As Superman – Deadline
Deadline hears that Cavill is still in final talks, and that there’s no Man of Steel 2 yet as there’s no director or writer, but this is the way the universe is moving. Warner Bros. had no comment when reached.

He's not signed, no one else is, and there is an intention for both parties to move forward. Nothing has the greenlight.

We'll know when WW3 has the greenlight because there'll be an article in the trades dating it, confirming Jenkins to direct and Gadot to star. As there is with every single other DC movie project that has ever been greenlit.

A movie that does not have a script cannot be "greenlit". At the moment Jenkins and Gadot are "attached" to a Wonder Woman 3 they are "developing". Per Collider, one week ago Patty was delivering her script treatment "soon". Therefore, if James Gunn and Peter Safran like the script treatment and the business case makes sense they'll approve the script treatment, assign it a budget and a release date. It is only then that it has the greenlight.

It doesn't even sound like Jenkins is developing a full script (a script treatment is a hybrid of a treatment and a script - a treatment being a precursor to a script and something you normally receive a story credit for), so they may even require her to develop a full shooting script with a writer before greenlighting it.

DC Movies: James Gunn Pitches in Secret, Dwayne Johnson Eyes Superman – The Hollywood Reporter

EDIT: Wikipedia can explain better than me:

Green-light - Wikipedia

In the context of the film and television industries, to green-light something is to formally approve its production finance and to commit to this financing, thereby allowing the project to proceed from the development phase to pre-production and principal photography. The power to green-light a project is generally reserved to those in a project or financial management role within an organization. The process of taking a project from pitch to green light formed the basis of a successful reality TV show titled Project Greenlight.

At the Big Five major film studios in the United States and the mini-majors, green-light power is generally exercised by committees of the studios' high-level executives. However, the studio president, chairman, or chief executive is usually the person who makes the final judgment call. For the largest film budgets involving several hundred million U.S. dollars, the chief executive officer or chief operating officer of the studio's parent conglomerate may hold final green-light authority.

Gunn and Safran are coming in with a clean slate. The only DC movie with a greenlight post - Aquaman 2 is Joker 2, which they don't have any authority over anyway. That means that everything else is up in the air until it is given the greenlight - including The Batman 2, The Flash 2 (which the trades confirm is already fully written), Wonder Woman 3, Man of Steel 2, The Te-Nehsi Coates Superman, the Constantine sequel with Keanu Reeves etc.

None of your sources say anything about 2 cameos. One says he made a one off deal and we know he's around longer.

Glad to see my recripts hold up

The Wrap reports from a WB insider that Dwayne Johnson has a “thinly veiled disdain for the Shazam character” and will probably not want anything to do with that character moving forward. These are the types of issues Gunn and Safran are going to have to deal with.

I think this got lost in all of this. Because honestly, this bugs me too tbh.

The Rock is such a ****ing diva.

He's literally said in interviews that he wants the crossover movie, just not to start off with it. So that sounds like a pile of **** to me
