DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

If it were up to me, I'd do a Smokin' Aces style flick with a bunch of DC's best assassins. Bring in Deathstroke that way, along with Will's Deadshot, Bane, Lady Shiva, Talia, etc. Have them all going after the same hit.

As a twist, I'd have the hit be Matches Malone, whose name wouldn't be revealed in any marketing. Have audiences believe it to be the real Matches as the film unfolds, only for the end reveal to show it was indeed Bruce in disguise. Introduce the new DCEU Batman that way.

Hire Guy Ritchie to direct.

Just spitballing here, but could be a fun way to go about the whole thing. I'll write the damn thing myself.

I kinda love this idea. Just as long as we get Snatch/Lock, Stock/Gentlemen Guy Ritchie and not Revolver/King Arthur/Swept Away Guy Ritchie.

Thanks man! And agreed. I legit couldn't get through the first 30 mins of King Arthur. Iunno what the hell was going on. Lots of blow in the editing bay that night is my guess.

WB is really moving forward with 'The Suicide Squad' title lol

I can already hear the "I already saw that movie" from my co-workers when I ask them about this movie

How can people with marketing degrees be this bad at their job?
Super-dumb title. What is the point of unnecessarily confusing the GA?

That really is a good point about The Suicide Squad as a title. It works for me, but I agree it’s unnecessarily confusing to the general audience.

I’m very curious how the film will be marketed. It’s going to be an uphill battle for that movie, but it has a lot of potential for success.

It’s strange how it’s a sequel to both a critical failure and a box office bomb. If TSS fails, it will be easy in hindsight to see why.

The problem we've got here, is what else do you name it? It is the Suicide Squad, so they can't really name it anything else without it feeling a little off, and they can't exactly name it Suicide Squad 2.

The Suicide Squad: Task Force X or The Suicide Squad: Enemy within (or something like that.)

It's also the sequel to a box office hit and a critical darling. I wouldn't be surprised however this one turns out.

In any case, the film is definitely in need of a title addition of more than three letters to distinguish Gunn's work from the previous installment.

LOL, no offense but you guys need to get your facts straight; it was a box office hit and a critical bomb. In a just world, it would have also been a box office bomb and would have bankrupted Steve Mnuchin. But here we are; James Gunn making a sequel to a movie that blatantly ripped him off and Steve Mnuchin on the task force for a pandemic. In other words, we live in hell.

The GA isn’t that dumb guys lol. Even if they were, there will be a ton of additional marketing materials that will clearly distinguish the film. It’s not like audiences will only see the title.

I feel like there is a bigger conversation about movie titles that needs to be had here. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I feel like if you’re going to give a movie the same title as another film in the franchise (or simply add or remove “the”), it should be a remake or reimagining. I find it a little odd when studios make a sequel and just give it nearly the same title. They did this recently with Halloween and I guess I understand why they did it since it was intended to be the “real” sequel to the original film. But even that is kinda misleading because it’s still a sequel, and in my opinion, the title should reflect that in some way. It’s even more comical with the Shaft franchise because there you have THREE movies that all have the same name. I know Richard Roundtree did make sequels of his own that has suffixes back in the 70s, but the SLJ version intentionally duped audiences into thinking it was a remake and not a sequel for some reason.

I don’t know, maybe none of this matters. It’s just a little pet peeve of mine.

It’s not about being dumb, it’s about having less interest than we have. For eg I don’t care too much about cars and while I might remember which car someone has if they tell me they’ve got a Merc rather than a BMW, I won’t remember different series within one make (know/care very little about all that). So any subtle differences I will just assume that what I thought was right I’d been mistaken on and not quite remembered right.

There are actually quite a lot of films that I’m not 100% sure if they officially have a “The” at the beginning of the title or not. If they didn’t and a new one came out my first thought might be - is this a rerelease of the old one with extra features or something like that. A sensible title instantly distinguishes a film, it shouldn’t be a job that still needs to be done after the title is known.

I think a new model of car is way more niche than a globally released film that had a massive marketing push and featured a few of the most recognizable names in Hollywood today.

The only people who will be confused are the people who never had an interest in the first place.

Eh, a different title would certainly help, imagine some people recommending this movie to friends (after watching it) and their friends responding by saying they have already seen it and it was "bad" (when they are actually referring to old SS movie as they don't know another movie by same name is released.)

A different title would not harm the movie, if WB are so worried then they can add some words to "Suicide Squad", like Paramount did for their MI films, "Mission Impossible: Fallout" instead of calling it "The Mission Impossible".

I figured it would be helpful to have a centralized thread to discuss all things relating to the DCEU. News, rumors, the works.

Please keep all discussions in here related to the DCEU. I'd prefer this not be treated as a general lounge thread.

Let's go ahead and kick things off:

Ezra Miller is off the wall. I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear what WBD is trying to do with The Flash. I don't for foresee them working with Miller again.

It sounds like The Flash will still release. I would be okay if it didn't, but test screenings say it's a good film, unlike Batgirl. Sigh...

It's cool to hear Zaslav has a 10 year DC plan. I don't mind the things he has canceled. The prior DC regime seemed to want to kill off Superman and Batman. Sorry, I still don't think Superman has been done justice on the big screen since Superman 78. I do love Man of Steel but admit it has some serious flaws.

Probably the most excited I've been for DC's fiture in awhile. Maybe we will get some really epic movies throughout this regime.

Seems like they need mental help, but his friends and family are are all like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I feel like at this stage, you can’t really point the finger at anyone other than Ezra.

That aside, I’m glad the movie is still coming out. Throw a disclaimer on it and let folks decide for themselves if it’s worth seeing. Setting Ezra aside, the hard work everyone else put in deserves to be seen by an audience.

I do weirdly feel Zaslav might’ve reworked Flash to reset the DCEU in a different way. And he may be sitting on different versions of the movie depending on how things perform. But either way, I think anything tied to the multiverse is getting the boot. No Batgirl, no Supergirl, and Keaton will be one-and-done.

Zaslav hinted that all three DC films are going in for reshoots.

Sounds good. Honestly, I'm glad they got someone who actually cares a bit and is putting DC as a top priority.

I find it pretty amazing how people turned on Zaslav so quickly. People hated how the old regime put streaming first and worried that theatrical was going by the wayside. Now we have Zaslav who is committed to theatrical and the traditional window and people are scared for the streaming services. It’s pretty entertaining.

Agreed. So far, I like the decisions he's made.
