DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

fun speculation.
if gunn is using this as inspiration, then i am all for it.

Interesting. I wish Sasha Calle every success, but I'd love blonde haired, blue eyed Kara/Supergirl (although whoever was cast would have to go some to surpass Helen Slater, who - whatever you think of her movie - was perfectly cast).

Remember when Amber Heard was that choice. :o

Superman is an alien that gets his powers from the sun, muscles are irrelevant for him as long as he can look fine in the suit. There's never been any reason for him to be mega-jacked.

Eh, while I agree that there are limits to how jacked out Superman should look, this logic doesn't actually mean much. How muscular Superman is, is not a matter of in-story alien physics and biology. Its a matter of visual storytelling, what it communicates to the audience. To the viewer, "muscular = strong", and to the extent that you contradict this, you create a dissonance that makes Superman come off as more alien, in a way that IMO is undesirable.

( Btw, this is why, for Miracleman, it actually *does* make sense for him to be slim and fairly unbuilt, because Miracleman *is* supposed to be creepy and subtly inhuman, in a way Superman absolutely isn't. )

There's a medium I think.

Audiences are willing to accept someone powerful and muscular to play Superman without them having to look like they're on steroids.

It's fandom who tends to demand that these actors look as big and as imposing as the character is in the comics, hence the " Tom Hardy Isn't big enough!" or " Gal Gadot isn't big enough" complaints from segments of fandom.

The reality is, audiences are much more willing to just go with and except the actor as is in terms of the final result, especially if the actor does a great job.

Not saying they'll tolerate a skinny guy as the final result , but a guy the Size Routh was when he played Superman in the crossover, is enough to convince people that the guy is Superman.

He didn't need to look like Bautista.

At the end of the day, it's how good the actor is, and whether he connects with the audience ,which will fully sell the audience that this guy is Superman.

Muscles aren't enough.

Cavill was pretty big physically, but at the end of the day , it didn't matter because he didn't connect with audiences.

So it's a combination of a Powerful and muscular physique ,and the talent which well make people believe the guy is Superman.

That's why I added the "as long as he can look fine in the suit" part.

Titans doesn’t even need a particularly high budget. It needs high quality writing which is neither here nor there in the show. It’s a moot point now since the show is inevitably getting cancelled after the fourth season.

Thats pretty much the one problem of Titans.
A better writing and the show would be fine.

Bigger Budget doesnt mean better Overall.
Like, Black Adam had a budget of 200 million...didnt make it a game changer.

Black Adam’s issue was its star. Loved Hawkman and Dr. Fate. They waisted the budget on Adam’s power. I could not get over The Rock in a Super hero suit. It took me out the movie. Would someone explain the end credit scene with Superman? Made no sense to me.

So what do you guys think we'll get first? The Superman reboot or The Batman 2?
I think both will come out in 25. I would love for the Trinity in ‘25. Wonder Woman in the Spring Batman in the Summer and Superman for the holidays. My dream……….

The Black Adam movie treated Amanda Waller as a female Nick Fury, which was inconsistent with her portrayal in The Suicide Squad where she was so evil that even her subordinates turned against her because it was a bridge too far. Why would Superman of all people work with her to threaten Black Adam?

I want fat Waller. I know it’s not politically correct but I miss the “Wall” from the animated series. You are so right about Superman working with her. I could see Batman maybe. To be honest she should have sent Shazam.:yay:

Viola Davis is great in the role even if its mostly phoned in Facetime performances but I actually don't think its politically incorrect to want an actually plus size actress to play a plus size character. Diversity in body types on screen is important - I think you could reasonably argue that relatively skinny actresses playing Waller is fundamentally sort of offensive, tbh.

Yep, having a big budget and spending it well are 2 separate things. :yay:

Spending a big budget well would prioritise getting the best writers you can afford.
