The Flash The Flash General Discussion and Speculation Thread - Part 10

It's sad when this use to be my favorite Arrowverse show, now it's near the bottom.

I think they need to get rid of everyone outside of the main 3 from the beginning, Cait, Cisco & Harry. Does Iris have any other goals in life outside of being a team leader & Barry's wife? I remember when she use to work as a journalist and would help when needed. I still don't understand why Barry needs a team of like 8 people telling him what to do and helping him fight crime. It's annoying when they make Star Labs basically a conference room

Yeah, I'm hoping that the producers and writers are able to revamp this show in Season 5 like how Arrow did.

Even without the issues that Iris brings as a character to this show, there are still so many problems with the series as shown in the current season.

I could understand Barry perhaps needing a team to assist him in his earlier days when he was still learning how to be a capable superhero of his own.

However, Barry has 4 years of experience under his belt, has mastered ALL of his super speed abilities, and is now the fastest that he has ever been in his life.

Not to mention, Devoe has been a poor excuse for a villain this season. Personally, I only found him interesting in his origin episode and had hoped that things would pick up from there. However, things didn't turn out that way since they killed off the actor (that is arguably the better version of the character) in the next episode that he had appeared in.

Most of the villains who have appeared in this season have been very campy and poor in quality as well and there's no real intriguing mystery or sense of urgency going on like the show had in its first two seasons.

He has and always will be the focal point. Even in prison, the writers aren't just letting Barry sit. We got reminders of Barry's past pain with his father in prison and a solid story arc with Big Sir. It's fair to say that Devoe hasn't gotten enough screen time in the last couple of episodes, but this season has been the biggest showcase for Grant's growing skills that we've had to date.

Yeah I noticed that. Being away from Iris makes him a superhero again. The less she is around him the better he is. Time to break up westallen. Barry is smart and we should see that more. I wish there was more Team Flash (Barry, Caitlin and Cisco) scenes where they are teaming up.

Forced is a good way to put it. Grant is no longer is the star of his show. It sucks.

Dramatic much? Especially considering Ralph/Cisco/Caitlin have had way more to do and focus but they, especially Ralph get a pass because he can stretch and make goofy remarks?

I'd be interested to see the screen time totals for each episode/season to see if all this Iris hate is even halfway justified.

Everything somehow comes back to Iris on this board, even though she gets no more screentime than everyone else. Every time I pop my head in here, that's all you're talking about. Y'all have gone far beyond beating a dead horse. The horse is decomposed, the bones are dust, and y'all are beating the bald spot on the ground where there was once grass.

I mean, Supergirl has a similar love interest problem, but on that board, those of us who don't like him make our weekly complaint on it in the episode thread and move on and talk about other things. We don't take over the the main discussion thread and whine in circles saying the exact same things about one character for weeks on end.

This show has a lot of problems right now, but despite the tone of this board, not all of them are Iris's fault.

I agree.

Thank you. Look, I was beginning to think I was the only one on this board that actually likes Iris. This show does have problems, but I still enjoy it.

Honestly its situational or week to week on if if iris is annoying for me. Last night she did kind of wjat i like, there but not over pushy or bossy. As for barry getting out of jail team flash should be lucky the judge didnt ask for a blood test to confirm devoe was still alive. I honestly didnt have an issue with ralph doung that as it was a good moment to see devoe and his wife outsmarted by the team.

I have zero issue with Iris and even less with her "leading" Team Flash. IMO, I think there is a tinge of misogyny there.

I didn't like Iris in the first season, though I thought her character had improved alot in further seasons. I'm surprised there's still alot of hate over her character , though that was one of my fears when they did such a bad job with her in season one.

The show does have alot of issues and i've stopped watching it. I guess next week we're dealing with a country music meta:huh:.

Thankfully I've gotten hooked on Black Lightening which is much fresher and more interesting than anything Flash is doing at the moment.

So only pro-Iris discussion is allowed? Asking for a friend.

It's amazing how you can get that from what I said. Absolutely amazing.

I said find something new to say. I said there's plenty in this show to discuss other than Iris. But somehow in your mind that translates to "only pro-Iris discussion allowed"? Ok.

How the hell did you get that out of what she said? All you just did, was prove her even more right....

I binge watch Flash in the summer on Netflix, so I don't spend a whole lot of time in here unless I get a PM or something to pop in....which is seldom. But, seriously the Iris hate here....though no where near as huge as Mon-el hate on Twitter, but for this site? Dang....it permeates this place, that's sad....because this is a cool series....Iris and all.

I'd rather see Iris being an awesome reporter than leading Team Flash but I don't have a problem with her character this season at all. Comic book Iris is sometimes involved in superhero shenanigans and she's definitely bossy.

It's the main reason I hardly post here anymore, the hate the character gets borders on obsession, is blown so far out of proportion it's not even funny, and hijacks the forum often enough to make it a toxic environment that isn't pleasant to be in.

Observation:

1. Admin comment about beating a dead horse and includes her pro-Iris stance.
2. People continues beating a dead horse. Although now it's only pro-Iris or with a pro-Iris caveat.
3. Admin next comment is assuming anti-Iris bias on nay-sayers.
3. Conclusion: ok to beat a dead horse if it's pro-Iris?

Or put another way, pro or anti, it's still beating a dead horse, isn't it?

Just because I don't approve of the OTT Iris hate, doesn't make me "pro-Iris." I'm neutral on Iris. I find her neither offensive nor particularly enjoyable. She is a very small facet of this show for me, and hardly the only the thing worth talking about. The "horse" y'all are beating is the hate. It has gone on and on for weeks on end. We get it, you don't like her. Feel free to give your weekly complaints about her in the episode threads on whatever she did to annoy you in that week's episode, but making it the primary topic of the General Discussion thread for as long as it has been is beyond overkill. You've said your piece, we all know your stance. Move on.

All my post suggested was that you find new topics/points to discuss.

I personally find Ralph to be the most annoying part of this show at the moment. The only episode I really enjoyed him in was his very first, and it's been downhill from there.

As long as it's not... wait... wrong thread. And show.

So, Iris criticism should be in the ep threads while pro-Iris is allowed in the general thread. Got it.

Speaking of, Ralph has been the saving grace of this season, but when he started down the path of broodiness in True Colors, then he needs to go, and I don't mean joining the Legends. I'm not here for Barry or Ralph or anyone going all navel-contemplating. Also, while I was happy that Joe won't be alone anymore, Cecile has outstayed her welcome. She's now as forced and lazy plot device as the other love interests in the CWverse between her baby and powers. Who asked for this? Any of this?

:whatever: Sure, just keep twisting it. What I said seems pretty clear to everyone else but you.

I can't believe that Barry is so clueless as to say, "You're my home" to Iris. She's clearly not a house, cottage, or apartment. :cwink:

I didn't realize Mon-El got so much hate on twitter. But yeah, the Iris hate is pretty strong here.

The only Arrowverse character that annoys me is Guardian , but even then, I find him more laughable then a character I hate. I get more mad at weak or lazy writing and storytelling than at fictional characters.

Phew, glad to be wrong then.

Why is Iris on the team? Why is she the leader? Anyone have answers to that? Asking for a friend.
