I don't know. I would assume that if it's a shooter it will probably end up coming to consoles as well at some point.
Hope it does. The more Warhammer games the better. Would like to see some Warhammer Fantasy as well as 40k though.

I would kill for a really good Space Wolves game.

Who wouldn't want to play that?

Yeah, all very awesome. I really hope the Warhammer license (including Warhammer Fantasy) goes AAA. I don't think it's quite there yet. Maybe they haven't got enough faith in the brand but there are a LOT of Warhammer fans. I was surprised how active the Space Marine multiplayer & horde mode are. Found a full game in seconds every time. That's a lot more active than the multiplayer on some games released this year!

I was always into that a lot more and that's what introed me to the 40k stuff. Got high hopes for this potential new game and look forward to finding out which platforms it will be released on. Hopefully next gen consoles as well as pc.

The multiplayer could be really good with justified melee options (with all the armour these guys are carrying plus the excellent looking melee weapons) to balance the shooter side. In a normal shooter I hate getting meleed by someone's gun when they can't shoot but it's fine here and fits well.

I'm pretty sure there's a Warhammer fantasy game in development somewhere. Not sure who's developing it and or even what genre it is, but I think it's happening.

I'm personally somewhat excited for the 40K MMO, Eternal Crusade. It sounds like it might be really interesting.

You know, I wasn't expecting to, but I really liked the multiplayer in Space Marine. The combination of shooting and melee felt really good and it was a lot of fun. Too bad I got into it late when the multiplayer is almost dead.

Oh really? Wow need to check that out. I'll take anything RTS, turn based, action adventure 1st person/3rd person, MMO, co-op...anything as long as it has good production standards that will get other people interested who don't know anything about it.

Just looked it up briefly. I've still not tried an MMO properly but might give this a chance.

It looks like there's actually a lot of things in progress on the Warhammer front which is good to see. Hopefully one of them can make the jump from being appealing mainly to fans and gamers who play everything and start attracting everyone else. And one of these games needs to feature Tyranids (haven't finished any Warhammer game yet so don't know if they already feature in the later parts of one of the games).

Same here. I was expecting it to be by the numbers but for some reason it really works. And I didn't find it to be dead. Found full games pretty much instantly every time I I searched (which was very surprising). Except on the Chaos DLC which I think has been delisted after THQ went bankrupt so noone new can buy it.

I just looked it up, it's being developed by Creative Assembly (95% chance it will be a strategy game then), but other than that there's no information about it.

I think it's pretty popular with PC gamers. I remember hearing somewhere that the Dawn of War games, especially the second one, sold really really well. Better than you might think. They still top the charts on Steam whenever they go on sale.

But yeah, I think Warhammer (specifically 40K) could potentially be a very big hit with console gamers too, it just needs a really outstanding "must-play" game to push it there.

I didn't literally mean dead, as in no activity whatsoever, it's just that sometimes it can take several minutes to get a full game going, which never happens on more popular games.

Wow, I just looked it up too and Creative Assembly are the guys who did the Total War series! (didn't even know)

Excellent! Couldn't think of anyone better to take on Warhammer Fantasy. This is like a dream come true. Huge hopes for this & glad I got a half decent pc recently.

Was reading through this discussion/speculation also related to what Creative assembly might do and it hits on pretty much everything I always wanted out of a Warhammer Fantasy game.

Oh good to know. I certainly got the feeling that Dawn of War was a more significant series relative to the others.

Space Marine is the type of game that can be popular with console gamers. Needs a better Mass Effect or Gears of War level campaign to make big news and then the current multiplayer can be devloped into soemthing that people will keep coming back to. The ingredients are there, get the balance perfect and upgrade it with top AAA next gen visuals & audio and I think it'll be a huge success. Warhammer is not a name like Star Wars but I think I might enjoy a game that fits all the above as much as I expect to enjoy the upcoming Battlefront game.

I was reading this article about Eternal Crusade, which had a lot of information about the game that I wasn't aware of, and I think if it turns out as good as it sounds it could very well be that big crossover hit that Warhammer needs.

Starting right off the bat, fans should note that four races will be playable from the start, with the fifth being the AI-controlled Tyranids (who are there to keep everyone balanced throughout the battle). The four races available at launch will be the Space Marines, Chaos Marines, The Eldar, and the Orks. Miguel told us straight away that the game will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 as a premium Free-to-Play MMORPG. The free race available to everyone will be the Orks. But free players will only be able to progress through the game’s content Ork Boyz: five of which are needed to take down one Space Marine.

You will login, select your character and be ported to your personal Orbital Striker (spaceship, which you can deck out and customize like a form of housing). You can also take your Striker and join it up with your Squad (up to 10 people) and create one shared mobile living space. Your Squad is part of the larger Chapter which is run by an electorate that the players will choose in the game itself.

So your squad (or you as a solo player) then chooses a continent on the current campaign planet to land on. Each campaign will last three months, and then a winner will be declared... Once you land, you will be presented with an overworld map interface that displays where friendly and enemy squads are headed and shows you where action and locales to be explored are available.

You will drop down into this overworld map, and you’ll see a fortress of the enemy lit on fire. Your squad will vote and all agree to go see what’s happening there. From the overworld map, the camera pans in in real-time to an over the shoulder view of your character. Your squad joins the battle in progress, and let’s say you successfully overtake the Eldar’s fortress. Now you’ve changed the border and territory control of the map, and any resources that were under the purveyance of the Eldar are yours to hold onto... Resources are all necessary to make the armor, weapons, ships, and fortress armaments needed to defend your faction’s stake in the world.

The crux of the game will be focused on the persistent struggle between the four player factions and of course the AI-controlled Tyranids. The PVP is Eternal Crusade’s big sell. As Miguel put it: “There is only WAR.” Combat is a mix between THQ’s single-player cult hit Space Marine and Epic Games’ Gears of War. You will seamlessly go between ranged bolter combat and then hacking apart a bunch of Nobz with your chainsword.

Progression will handled via traditional experience points, but the way in which you earn those valuable XP will be a bit foreign. Sure, you can go off into the world and do your own thing, but if you decide to listen to your Order’s leadership (again, elected by the players) you will get bonus XP and rewards.

All of this: the fight between the four player controlled factions and the fifth wild-card known as the Tyranids rages on for three months. At the end, a winner is decided by overall territorial control and dominance, and the battle shifts from that planet to a brand new one (fresh and ripe for the picking). The new world may have a completely different ecosystem, new resources, new layout, and all of that to fight over. Think of it like competitive “seasons” in any sport.

Gamestop managers are all getting a free PS4 and seven games... is there any way I can quickly become a GS manager for a few months?
Source

Not bad. Altho I'm sure the managers at GS would much rather be paid and treated fairly rather than get video games, but that's still a nice little perk.

My both of my friends (ga managers) sent me a text from Vegas about how Sony's giving them all ps4's as well as 7 games.

Did they tell you what they planed on doing with them? When the company would give things like that to my old Manager, he'd always use them as incentives. I thought that was a really cool way to kind of give back to the employees.

Wow, that sounds awesome so far. Looking forward to it.

Introducing... The Nintendo 2DS. No, That's Not a Typo.

Screenshotfrom2013-08-28082623.png

Nintendo will be launching a new portable gaming system in October. It's called the Nintendo 2DS. It's a 3DS without the 3D, and it's shaped like a thin piece of cake.

"This is an entry-level handheld gaming system," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku earlier this week when we got our hands on the unusual device.

The 2DS will sell for $129.99 and will be available in red or blue. That price makes it $40 cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS and $70 cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS XL (and recently price-dropped PlayStation Vita).

I get removing the 3D, I'm sure that saves a ton on production costs, but removing the flip-close is really strange. It looks super awkward to hold.

Texts from my friend Jared, who's at the Las Vegas Gamestop manager expo.

EA has been supporting Sony like crazy out here. Every ea game I'm getting is on the ps4. Microsoft has some cool tech in the box (mostly with the blend of media and gaming) and their controller feels a tad but better to me. .

PS4 hands down has the best games and the better looking system (seriously, its so pretty). Sony is also showing major love for developers (major and indie) and major love for the consumer as well.

Its anyone's game down the road, but Sony's got a good lead.

Oh and wait until you guys see the new trends in blending "multiplayer" with single player. Watchdogs is the one to watch for this. Hint: Darksouls.

After what I've seen at the past 2 days at my conference I guarantee that PS4 (barring any hardware issues) is going to win the launch war. Microsoft could catch them long term but it's anyone's game. . If I had to pick 1 system I'd go with the PS4 right now as Xbox One would be a bit of a gamble.

He went into this completely natural as he's more of a PC gamer.

I wanted a 3DS for the games, and not the 3D. I might have to look into this.

Here's the 2DS introduction trailer:

Honestly, you would be missing out. On certain games at least. The 3D effect really makes some games look gorgeous.

I totally agree. The 3D adds a cool layer to a lot of the games. Sure there are some that don't use it well and can be turned off, but 1st party stuff looks especially good in 3D. 3D Land and Luigi's Mansion look fantastic.

Fire Emblem Awakening has some amazing 3D effects. I just wish it didn't drain the battery so much on my XL.

Anyway, here's some big Wii U release dates from Ninty that people have been waiting for:

The Wonderful 101 (Sept. 15, $59.99*)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Sept. 20 downloadable, Oct. 4 packaged, $49.99*)
Wii Party U (Oct. 25, bundled with a Wii Remote Plus controller and stand, $49.99*)
Super Mario 3D World (Nov. 22, $59.99*)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Dec. 6, $49.99*)
Wii Fit U (Holiday, Price TBA)
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (Holiday, Price TBA)
