The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

Steve Carell all the way. He would be a great Perry - great character actor that can bring subtle humour to the role (think Lane Smith).
Rachel Brosnahan is a great shout, she and Emmy Rossum my top two. Emmy has that Teri Hatcher innocence to her, with a hard exterior. I honestly don't want to recreate lois and clark the movie, but i do want to take inspiration for the office scenes in the DP and the chemistry.
They should hire the actor for the way they portray Clark in the office - i want metropolis clark to be a real person, but just taking a side step when in groups and never wanting to be centre of attention, to lay low almost. I liked the supergirl way, in that instead of bumbling being an act, they jsut made clark a naturally softer, goofier style when relaxed - ironically Henry Cavill, when relaxed and being himself, is a bit of a nerdy, gentlman/old school type.
Ben Walker, i don't think he has the look.. it's almost too boyish, his features. My top two for Superman, first choice as i feel he would nail the portayal of clark to a T is Nick Hoult, but i feel his superman would, it would need some work...aesthetically - his hair line for one, could be styled but then flight etc would look bad. Second choice, Armie Hammer.

I am 100% onboard the Emmy Rossum for Lois train.

I still think you can recast the supporting characters with Henry as Superman but you couldn't recast Superman and keep the supporting cast.

Casting Superman is damn hard, you have to cast someone whose unknown or very little known but that can pull it off. Henry is now known but he's known because of Superman.

With Lois Lane for example you don't have to cast an unknown you can go to the best actresses in Hollywood for that role.

If Henry is back with Adams and co then great I'll be a 100% on board with that but personally given the stink on this version I think either a complete recast or keeping Henry with a new supporting cast is the best way forward.

Thing is, i feel moving forward, the tone will be vastly different from snyderverse, so going back to those movies, will be like watching a whole different beast. Like Thor and Thor: Ragnorak and i feel recasting lois wouldn't be too much of an issue, sadly, as Amy is great and loves the character and probably feels disappointed.

They can re-cast Lois but then they also have to re-cast Clark too and with that they would also have to re-cast Perry especially if Laurence Fishburne is out of DC and is now on the Marvel train; not to mention Jimmy Olsen didn't they totally change his character in the DCEU in the first MOS film?

They don’t have to recast Cavill at all and they can recast everyone else. It wouldn’t matter.

Jimmy wasn’t even in Man of Steel. In the BvS UE there was a CIA agent who said his name was Jimmy Olsen and was credited as such. He got killed in minutes.

Jenny (Olsen) but they can easily introduce a character called James who everyone calls jimmy much to his dismay, or he's known as jimmy but perry calls him james.

Just another example of a mistake of the past. Jimmy is too much a known character to mess with

Yeah and you also have to establish who the villain would be in this next film because in the first MOS film you had Zod as your main villain and if they do this film then who do you go to as your go-to villain? It would have to be Lex Luthor

You do know Superman has a Rogues gallery that isn’t just Zod and Lex right?

Yeah I know that but after the way JL ended you probably have no choice but to go with Lex as the sequel villain and then from there if there is a 3rd film then you can go with any Rogue you want

I still want a flash movie to retcon everything... although that would be too much for WB to succesfully do.

Imagine a flash movie starting with Ezra in his lab, doign his job, then suddenly a ripple occurs and he feels impending doom, anxiety, he then feels light headed and vibrations occur and he looks around him and the person working next to him now looks totally different, but with same name badge, the janitor is the same dude but missing an arm, everything is like a dream, a bad dream and something has happened and he feels out of time - he is then visited by his future self - the same 'version' that visited Bruce, an apocolyptic event is about to occur which he will need to stop, and the film unfolds and things are restored at the end but it's obvious the time line was reset. Cameo's of new actors are introduced etc. I like that idea, but it's a bit much to get right in just one, solo, first movie.

I would bring back Lex as a villain but he’d be pulling the strings from behind the scenes. You still can have other villains in there.

There is that rumour that something happens in WW84 that does something to the timeline. I think that is something suited better to the Flash though.

Personally I’d just move on recast if you have to with certain characters and do what you need too. This is how the comics operate.

I disagree. Lex is in the background, scheming and keeping a low profile, since breaking out of jail.

There are so many villains and obstacles Superman can face. Parasite is a villain i never gave much thought too, but would be brillaint and so different from what we have seen from the genre so far.

I heard that too about WW1984, but wonder if it was shoe horned in and ruined PJ's original idea, it would be lovely if it all made sense, but then how does it affect AM.

They do both, technically... they recast through a reboot, but the story has to be there (new 52, rebirth, crisis on infinite earths etc)

I don't know if there's any truth to it. But if it's there I kerp thinking what the hell happens? Does one of the gods change something? Maybe that explains how Steve is back?

Well Aquaman could still exist as it us. When DC dd the new 52 Green Lantern and Batman's histories weren't effected at all.

I definitely would call the next Superman film "Superman Rebirth" no matter what happens.

If something happens in WW84 that does something to the timeline...think Avengers: Endgame because they are doing the whole time travel to mess with the space/time continuum...so if they are doing that to alter timelines within the MCU then if they alter timelines in the DCEU then what makes the most sense? Time travel which pretty much sets everything right by going backwards and forward in time

Then in that case I would go with John Corben/Metallo as villain

I would be bored to tears with Metallo as a villain.

I don't get what you mean?

I'd have him and Parasite with Lex pulling the strings.

If they cast the right actor, might win you over :p

Metallo just seems similar to iron man villains, spiderman etc - i am warming to parasite big time, give us an x files vibe, clark and lois with jimmy working on a case of wrong doings at star labs, this creature out there terrorizing the city, trying to find superman for the ultimate feed.
All the while lex pulls strins to get intergang messing up the city and letting us see what superman can really do - bank heist, explosion on a bridge etc.
Story is key.

Now we're talking!

I don't like your Supes pick, but I could get on board with the others.

Waldau would be okay. Brosnahan as Lois is the real winner there, though.

Thanks! Glad you guys liked the Brosnahan and Waldau suggestions. I also like the idea of Tom Hopper as Supes. He's someone I never would have thought of, but he does kinda look the part. At the very least, he's got the build and the height for the role, and he's a good actor. He could also use the work; I was really disappointed in the nothing role they gave him on Game of Thrones. I thought he was going to be a lot more significant, considering how great he was on Black Sails.

Benjamin Walker is another actor who looks the part and can actually replace Cavill

If they ever get to do Metallo, get Peter Jackson and WETA to do it.
