The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

He's exceptional in his brief appearance in The Outsider.

Agreed. He also did a great job directing that show, as well as Ozark and Bad Words. I could see him directing a CBM, though probably something much darker than Superman would suit his style. I would LOVE a Bateman-directed Spectre movie or series.

Comes with a fitting image. Haven't seen him act though.

Another vote for David Corenswet, and an imagination of him in JJ Abrams' Flyby suit. 7A45A1A5-CDF2-48DE-873D-245A0FC4BBCB.jpeg Flyby DC poster.jpg

I'm sure it's not the intention but this comment is very funny and reads very immature. That's a costume for giiiiirls!

Not immature, just my observation. The lines above the thigh, they are very prominent and set the legs, waist apart. They almost look like two different pieces, drawing your eyes in, rather than one long flowing body suit. The lines are also smooth and sleek, it's just a very effeminate design, kinda like how the Superman Returns suit, the proportions are off - trunks way too small, elongating the abdomen.

However, it's clear to see how this design evolved into the MOS suit, which I like, a lot.

Oh sorry, I was acknowledging that it wasn't the idea but just how it reads. I know you weren't actually saying the immature way of reading it.

Honestly, the more I think about it... for the interpretation I would like to see, I would like a rebooted superman or a retconned Cavill superman in the jeans and t shirt for a while... depowered too.
For me, the market is so saturated with heroes in capes and similar styles as, but not superman, I need a break. Wanting to see a true superman - based on my familiarity - and not seeing it, it kinda wears you down to the point where it turns sour. Maybe cutting my nose to spite my face, but seeing ideas and takes and manips, whilst it's radio silence is hard going.

Good cast! I’ve been banging the drum for Odenkirk as Perry for a while and it’s good to see I’m not alone in thinking he would rock that character. I feel like no one has really gotten Perry right since Jackie Cooper. Langella just came off like an old guy who was starting to lose his grasp on things and Fishburne was too serious IMO. I want a fired up, unintentionally funny Perry and I think Saul Goodman could give us that. I also think his BCS costar Rhea Seehorn would make an amazing Cat Grant.

Alright total left field pick, I have been seeing him pop up in films for years now and just recently Stranger things.....

Have yet to see him play a cool guy or tough guy but it can happen and with some bulk and muscle added to him maybe he would be a nice fit. He has a lovely charm. I don't expect this to be a welcomed suggestion.

I loved this guy on Search Party and he does have the look and the height but he would need to pack on a LOT of muscle. Maybe he could do it but he’d probably have to consume like a million calories a day lol.

Some of that Hollywood magic. I can't remember his name because I didn't watch the American office but look at X who is now much more hunkier since bulking up. So I think it's possible.

I would still like to see more Cavil but if it's not in the cards...

why not. Doesn't look too goofy in the suit. Tall. can act some.
could be worse.

Was just checking on if it was LH, as I sometimes don't know the actors pictured.

He surely isn't the worst name mentioned either here or elsewhere. He does have the self deprecating personality like his brother, and seems to be able to laugh at himself, something I think Cavill lacks, and that is part of the problem with Cavill's performance. It might work for the Clark/Superman character, it is truly needed after the DCEU.

I always thought WB would grab him for something, even Superman, to get the free and easy and large buzz of his name alone. That is something I thought the old WB would do, at the least.

Another actor I’ve been thinking about is Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant, the upcoming John Wick spinoff, The Continental). I’ve only seen him in a couple things but he’s talented and kinda has the look.

Has a passing resemblance to Sean Penn. It would be fitting since Peters infamously wanted Sean Penn to play Superman:

Peters, however, wanted Sean Penn, coming off his first Oscar nomination for playing a convicted killer on death row in 1995’s Dead Man Walking. “He goes, ‘Look in his eyes in that movie, he’s [got] haunted eyes, the eyes of a killer,’” Smith recalled Peters saying. “And I was like, ‘Dude, it's Superman. You know, that's not how most people think of Superman.” Penn was never formally offered the role, and Smith thinks Warner Bros. would have pushed back on such a casting choice.

Kevin Smith's Superman movie that never was: Filmmaker revisits bonkers '90s project that nearly starred Sean Penn
