Justice League The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Thread - Part 1

Garrett Hedlund or Taylor Kitsch as Hal Jordan

I'm fairly confident Hal will be an A-lister. John will be an up and comer.

Hedlund I could get behind, as long as he doesn't turn in another PANned typed of performance. Although I'd much rather see him play Johnny Blaze in a Midnight Sons Netflix TV series.

Eh, that's hardly the point of the GL property. Most of what we consider the "main" lore is revisionist of the Golden Age era.

I'm all for reinventing the series once more. I'd love a hard sci-fi take on it. It may be just what the live-action series needs to be taken seriously.

I don't know; I've been a GL fan for a long time and they've really emphasized the will power aspect of the character for at least decades. That's why Kyle becoming a GL was such a radical shift for the mythos; he wasn't specifically chosen. Ganthet just showed up and was like, "Here! You'll do!" Hal and all of the others received their rings because they were beings without fear. Even in the much maligned GL movie, they stressed this point; they just had Hal being a person who overcomes fear rather than one who has no fear whatsoever.

Taking that aspect away is sort of like having a Bruce Wayne whose parents weren't murdered.

The ring choosing the wearer is a huge part of the mythology and the themes that have been baked into it since the Silver Age.

Totally agree. Hal finding the ring by chance just grates upon me.

Yeah there should be zero influence from that Earth One series.

It's good as an elseworlds tale! But that's about it.

People must hate the character if they think the movie version should take inspiration from such a radically different interpretation.

They could still use the astronaut/scientist aspect. That's long been a part of the character's DNA anyway, it just hasn't gotten as much play as the hotshot pilot. In some versions of his origin, the flightless trainer Hal was in when Abin Sur's ring chose him was actually designed by Hal himself. When the character was first created in 1959, a test pilot was the coolest of the cool. If he was created only a couple of years later, he would've been an astronaut, so making him an astronaut now does make sense, and part of being an astronaut today is very much about being a scientist.

Hal Jordan is made from the same mold as James T. Kirk, who, while often characterized as a cocky womanizer as well, is more than those two traits. Kirk was a diplomat, an explorer and philosopher with a genius IQ. Same goes for Hal. It's like someone saying that Batman can never be portrayed as anything but a grim, humorless *****e, when Adam West proved that he can.

How about Derek Theler as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern? Derek Theler he is on ABC's Baby Daddy he actually would make a great Hal Jordan not only looks wise but he can act...well he definitely has the charisma and the sarcasm down to play Hal

No Lantern, No Kryptonian.

And Hal thought he'd get a mention. Soo close.

Somewhere out there, regwec is currently channeling William Shatner. :hehe:

I would be besides myself if we get Hal Jordan/Green Lantern surprise in this movie and it's not spoiled. :D

It was Lanterns. Plural. And I'm thinking that while there could be and should be story explanation for that line, this could've also had a meta context, addressing the many people asking why Green Lantern isn't in the movie.

Awesome shout out by Steppenwolf to the Lanterns!

I wonder if the person they cast as green lantern knows already or if they will grab them and immediately shoot the inevitable after credits scene

Pretty sure it's Armie Hammer. He's just having so much fun with this at the moment.

Also, strange how they went from "unite the seven" to casually walking away from that marketing.

This line kind of annoyed me. Lanterns patrol sectors, not planets. So Earth not having a Lantern is the same as every other planet aside from Oa.

In fact Jordan sometimes cops flak for being too Earth focused or biased towards his own world and not focusing on 2814 as a whole.

Aight, post credit scene needs to be of the ring finding Hal Jordan or John Stewart. Perfect set up too.

They are supposedly looking for a 40+ Hal Jordan while Armie Hammer is 31. Did he start trolling again?

I don't know why people are still making such a big deal about that unite the seven line. It was on one picture and that was with Aquaman...probably referring to the 7 seas.

If you look closely in Alfred's glasses in the final moments of the trailer, you can clearly see Dan Amboyer in the reflection.

But the trailer and poster said All In.

We will know who is plaing GL after test screenings, lol, cant have surprises these days
