Daredevil The Inevitable Costume Thread - Part 1

A part of me is really interest to see what the Netflix shows take on various DD suits would look like. I'd love to see their versions of the yellow/red suit, the Secret War suit and the Black suit he wore when he commanded the Hand.

Come to think of it, this maybe as close to these two suits ever showing up on film as it gets:

Is it bad that I have always disliked the 90s era suit? Even when I was a kid and saw Daredevil wearing that suit in team-up books, I just..could never appreciate that suit. I enjoyed the color scheme, but good gravy, that armor plating is too busy. That said, you do have an excellent point about the inspiration for the suit in the show. I had not even given consideration to the fact that the costumer designer may have pulled from more than one take on the Daredevil suit. That is a good observation.

Also the black suit looked fantastic at all times, easily the best pre-suit in comics/shows ever, very practical too

You know, by the time the show gets around to introducing his proper suit, I found myself wanting Matt to continue on in his vigilante outfit. There is sound wisdom to Matt donning a suit with more armor than what his vigilante suit offered. However, I feel that the black suit spoke more to his character. In this show, Murdock wasn't concerned with taking on some persona, or name, or a flamboyant look. He needed his identity obscured and some protection, and he went with the most functional stuff he could get.

Honestly, I feel that the black suit looks far more imposing than the armored suit. The under-armour shirt of the black suit displays Matt's physique and lets you know that this is a man in top physical condition. The dark mask has no eye openings, which gives him this intense appearance and subtly conveys confidence. I can imagine the confusion that a criminal would have in seeing man that is blindfolded, in the dark, yet approaching with no hesitation, right into the fray of battle. Someone like that is either nuts, or highly skilled, and neither outcome would be desirable to face in a fight.

This is so true and I thought the same thing. Before watching it, I grimaced because I assumed we wouldn't see the red suite until the climax, but as I watched each episode, I found myself not caring about the red suit at all, and quite honestly, I would have been fine if the black mask outfit stayed.

What makes me like the costume less is that within the context of the show, they pretty much showed the suit could've been less busy-looking/obvious armor since Fisk had armored business suits that looked like regular suits.

The suit was pretty good. I was just excited to see him looking like Daredevil. The mask could use some work though. From some angles it looks a bit wonky. Also I would leave the nose exposed. When its covered up he looks like Batman.

He doesn't seem like Daredevil at all, just a martial artist. We don't get to see his sonar vision where he can see through walls,in the dark, etc,we don't see him with his billy club being used like a grappling gun,and the iconic suit is a horrible Flash rip off.

He seemed like Daredevil to me. And other than color, his suit didn't remind me of the Flash at all.

And it was way too early for any sort of grappling billy club. I'm not even sure that that'd work in this show.

He uses rough versions of the billy-club throughout the series, until he gets the final version in the final episode. I doubt we'll ever see this version of Daredevil swinging off of buildings with the advanced billy-club, even though the final fight scene makes a point of showing that the clubs can be combined, detached and joined through wire. Also, we do see his radar (not sonar) sense when he is talking to Night Nurse and explaining how he "sees" the world. How that sense is used is heavily implied throughout the series.

Remember how he could smell and hear the hitman from the third floor of Night Nurse's building? We know that hearing is how his radar sense pings an image, so we can assume that any feat involving hearing is in fact a feat that relates to his radar sense. I suppose your complaint would be a bit stronger if you are bothered by the fact that the show does not hold the viewers hand and explicitly tell you that these things are going on, but anyone with a passing knowledge is able to deduce that we do see his full power set (sans his permanent aversion to very loud noises. This is only seen when he is young and can't control his abilities).

I too will also miss the black suit. It looked incredible in the show. But at the same time I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with the red costume.

Absolutely agree with everything you say, the black suit completely grew on me, it was practical yet sleek/cool looking, and sent a sense of fear a lot more than the new costume

They gave a fair explanation on why he needed armour since he got his ass handed to him and felt he needed to match Fisk in the suit he wore, but what we saw throughout the season was that 90% of the guys he fought failed to even land a blow on him, his key strengths were stealth/surprise attacks, fearsome look and speed, and they new costume is hefty looking and beats all those purpose

Wish we could have gotten a red, altered version of the black suit.

I'm certain it will get tweaked. The producers I'm sure will take heed of some of the criticisms and it's Marvel after all, there will more than likely be some licensing products that will change with every change on the show. The more products the more $$$. Also, he was Daredevil to me in every way.

Though I'm not a big fan of the suit, I must say it's a much better first attempt than Captain America's Avengers costume. I still can't believe how bad it actually looked.

I imagine we'll see a metamorphosis of the billy club to include the grapple line. It would have been too soon to introduce in this series...but I imagine he'll need it to aid in quick escapes and to rappel up/down buildings. I'm sure Melvin will be working on it :)

I'd rather there not be a grapple line. Too campy for me. I keep getting flashbacks of the affleck movie in my mind.

Haha you mean all of those scenes of a cartoon Ben Affleck scaling skyscrapers and leaping the span of a football field? :woot:

How about a grapple line used to grab fire escape ladders

Never been around any
Too tall to reach I assume???

Just saw it.

That's great! When I was driving home from work today, I thought to myself "I've got to look online and see if anyone has drawn the MCU costume in comic book style." Thanks for posting it.

I think the biggest issue with the cowl is the same reason why Cap's Avengers cowl looked so odd, the chin is exposed. It's accented even more since they decided to go with black jaw pieces. Had they colored the jaw pieces dark maroon like the rest of the suit, it wouldn't look as odd, IMO. Exposed jaws just don't look good when wearing a full helmet in live action, for whatever reason. Cover the chin up and it would look fine.
