Yep, agree. I've seen some excellant movies that I'm in no hurry to watch again. There are other movies that are considered average that I watch many times a year.
Same here. Often times I see a great movie that I have no gripes with, but I have no urge to see again anytime soon. And then there are these average films as you said that I pop the DVD in and play even when I do something else. They bring a good feeling, and that to me is the most important thing.
There have been comic book or novels turned into movies that have hurt me too. I finished watching them...some to never watch again (or watch again several decades later).
Count of Monte Cristo almost hurt me, and I still disliked it, but not on the same level as DBE. I was a bit open-minded about the Count, although it's my favorite book of all time, and I knew they can't fit the book into a 2-hour movie, but it still didn't help and I still didn't like it. I think these books work better as mini-series anyway.
When I try to explain this to others I like to use "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas". For me, "Raging Bull" might be the perfect film, but it is hard to watch. It stirs emotions in me that I don't really like. So I have probably seen it a half a dozen times. "Goodfellas" is not quite as incredible (still completely awesome though), but has infinitely more watchablity for me. Watch it at least 5 times a year.
Schindler's List is also in that category. But often times there are movies that people find hard to watch twice, but then you like watching again and again.
Shame was one of those movies that I heard people found hard to watch, but I had no problem watching it a few times and still loving it.
I have only watched a half dozen or so episodes of any Dragon Ball series...so anything out of continuity wouldn't bother me. I have a copy of the movie, but haven't took time to watch it yet.
It's not just the continuity problems or anything like that. As I said before, I have no problem with re-imagining, changes to the characters and stories, remakes and so forth. I always encouraged it. People gave me hard time for liking aspects from the Ultimate Marvel universe better than the original, but I still stand by what I like.
The thing with DBE is that it's a bad movie in every aspect. The ridiculous story, unconvincing characters, actors and dialogues, unacceptably bad effects everything as a whole... It's a big mess and for me it really wasn't worth watching the whole film, but I did it anyway. At the end it made me feel like digging into a pile of **** in order to find a piece of chocolate - even if I found one, it's still covered and smells like ****, so what's the point?
