Now that Leto is playing Morbius, I really hope that we hear stories of how he's now subsisting solely on packets of blood.

I see what you did there.

Ugh.

:csad:

Speaking of which, which Letoker tattoo do you guys think was the worst? I know "Damaged" draws a lot of ire, but I personally think that having "Joker" written across his stomach was much worse, especially given the font they used. I also think the stupid smile tattoos (especially the one on his abdomen) were really stupid. I kinda liked the "HA HA HA" ones though.

"Damaged" is the worst. I can ignore the body tattoos since they're covered up or obscured most of the time, but since you're naturally drawn to a performer's face, the facial tattoos are more distracting.

The basic concept of this stikes me as utterly ridiculous. This is like Venom though where the names involved are the only reason for excitement.

Yeah. If Phoenix were to drop out, interest in this film would plummet into the cellar.

Do gen audiences even know who that is compared to Tom Hardy?

It's beyond terrible and I still can't get over how many people rushed to defend that tattoo when we got our first look at it.

Speaking of the facial tattoos, I also think that stupid "J" on his face is really dumb. As are the metal teeth.

They're all dumb. All of them! And the grillz are even worse than the dumb tats.

And those pre production concepts are even worse

So just think, it could have somehow gotten worse than what we got. Good lord.

Phoenix was a significant character in Gladiator as well as Signs, and played Johnny Cash in a pretty successful film. He's also known for being a guy who thinks he's Andy Kaulfman and likes to troll people.

For me it was mostly the facial tattoos and the grillz.

I hate the little star on his temple more than the J :funny:

I really like the idea of him having metal teeth because his real teeth were knocked out by batman.
I think that if that was actually the idea behind them, it could have been done better.

My favorite role of his is definitely in Walk the Line. I love him in that movie.

The Joker tattoo on his stomach is just ugly as ****. The "ha ha ha" ones were well placed and aesthetically pleasing. Another terrible one was the smile on his hand, just so he could hold it in front of his mouth.

I kinda liked the grills.

Safe to say this new Joker won't have any tattoos, so we can draw comfort from that.

I get why this movie is going as niche as it can.

I mean, listen, if the goal was to create a joker so detestable that he’s far and away the worst part of every scene he’s in, then Ayer succeeded. I genuinely wanted to see Ben Affleck turn his head into hamburger meat

Totally against Batman killing or committing manslaughter or whatever you wanna call it, but it would have given me great joy to see that happen

I mean the guy is great but in terms of the wider perception. That's who I think Phoenix is to most average people.

Jeff Sneider just mentioned on Collider Movie Talk that he knows Thomas Wayne will be a big part of this film. Coincides with the rumors backs then it would be a period piece.

But it also effectively wipes Joaquin's Joker off the running for ever really facing off Batman in the future. There goes my dream. :(

Who said there was anything wrong with it? I said its deja vu of the Leto casting. People saying and expecting the exact same things.

But if you want to discuss optimism, remember the track record of WB's handling of Batman characters in the DCEU. Personally its hard to be optimistic knowing who is behind this. Plus its a Joker origin movie without Batman most likely. Its like Sony's Venom movie without Spider-Man. I just can't envision it being good without key characters that make said character work. In this case Joker only works well when he's against Batman.

Even as an origin story. The Killing Joke still had Batman.
All of this!!

Phoenix is a fantastic choice for the Joker, but making an origin story centered around him, let alone without Batman, is very risky. Who knows what will happen, but the Joker needs Batman.

Hmmm. Very interesting!
