The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 5

If you peeps have been to the other site lately, it's been Disney week news! A lot of positives have came through and some great casting (Marvel) and director (Star Wars) as well. Really SAD that this franchise could be up there with those 2 huge franchises under the disney umbrella instead of having gone through a lot of cr*pfest since the beginning. Hopefully and Fruitfully this franchise goes back HOME.

and what I meant by good for the movie is... good for Trank's movie. But I don't get the feeling he cares much about FF. I don't mean that in an insulting way too, that's just why it's always been a funny thing for me, mixed bag.

I think this is the key point. While many of us disagree on many points, I think we might agree that Trank has enough talent to make a 'good' movie.

The problem is, some are happy with the generic idea of a 'good' movie while FF fans want more specifically a 'good FF' movie. And most of the information we're getting is indicating this film will diverge fairly drastically from what most of us want to see in an FF film.

I share that skepticism, but I haven't heard enough directly from Trank yet to completely write off his vision. If he does the right things with a poor script, we could still see something cool.

I'm not optimistic, but I've clung to the foolish hope that Mavel will get the rights long enough that I can shift to the foolish hope that Trank will make something closer to FF than what I've been imagining.

Hello all...After searching the internet for F4 news and also praying this movie wasnt going to happen I stumbled back to this site. I am from and live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I bartend and go to school full time. There are signs around town marked "Henry" and when talking to one of my regulars who is an professional actor/theater manager about F4 actually being shot or not, I was informed that "Henry" is the codename for F4. He says he gets calls sheets almost every day for what's going in F4, I'll try and get some more info in the future.

Hopefully this is a smoke screen. If not, maybe I should go sabotage the production so the film gets delayed. (J/K, but I wish there was a way to stop it)... take it FWIW, I've decided to look more into it and keep hope alive.

Thanks for checking in! I've seen enough going on over the past several weeks to resign myself to the idea this is happening. I'd be very interested to know what you see and hear.

There was a very interesting opinion piece by John Byrne just posted on that other site. Because of the difficulty of linking and controversy of the subject, I won't post it here, but people may want to check it out.

I'd give my left nut to have a Byrne FF script and him as advisor/designer.

Yeah he had some good points that people here have touched throughout the months but sadly naysayers are dismissing it because of that comment he made about hispanic women who dye their hair. But he's right, if FOX was so righteous about the whole race bending issue then both brother and sister would be black.

Yeah, it is clearly happening at this point unless Trank walks off the set. I still very much doubt that it will be any good or that Fox is putting in what I would consider to be a legitimate effort to make it good.

I am confused. Whats going on here? Is this film happening or not? And I thought this was going to be Fantastic Four III: Doomed. Wasn't that the title?

LOL no.

It can't be Fantastic Four III, since this is gonna be a reboot.

I'm pretty sure the reason you guys hate this reboot so much is because they aren't following the story you guys want. I personally don't want a old azz Mr fantastic, sorry i don't. i prefer the F4 to be teens like the ultimate comics, it's just like all you guys always say you don't care for the Ultimate F4, but it looks like it's still being faithful to the comics just not the comics you want!, besides i don't want a bunch of old timers as the Fantastic four like the 616 is No offense (one of the reasons i dislike the 616 version) isn't Mr fantastic in like his 50s in the 616? a younger F4 will appeal to a wider audience, kids and teens (like my self)

I'm not really feeling negative about the movie. However, I'm kind of not sure what they're doing on this one.

Michael B. Jordan is actually the casting decision I have the least amount of problems with. I can see him playing a hothead jokey kid. I just don't understand why they cast Kate Mara as his sister. I think she's a fine actress, but I think they would have been better also casting an African-American actress. I don't know why they didn't go all the way on that one.

Jamie Bell is a really weird choice. Pre-accident, Ben's usually kind of the bruiser type (one of the things the Story movies got right). Jamie Bell could probably pull off the attitude and play it as more scrappy than bruiser, but it's all-in-all just weird to me.

Miles Teller is the one I have the biggest problem with. I don't think he's a bad actor or anything, he's fine. I just don't think he exudes the super-intelligence and wisdom Reed is meant to have. I could see him maybe playing an intelligent smart-aleck, but that's really not the person Reed is. It's essentially using Spider-Man as the casting template for Mr. Fantastic and it just doesn't work.

In the Ultimate Marvel universe, Ben is Reed's childhood friend: Ben would protect Reed from bullies and Reed would help Ben with his homework. meh i could see jamie pulling that off.

No. We hate this reboot because, in addition to remaking past mistakes and new ones, this movie just shouldnt exist.

Fox doesn't care about this franchise. I'm pretty sure they don't even want it. But they are too caught up in their petty game of keep away with Marvel, to realize its hurting them more to make this film, than to just let the rights revert.

If you think that's the reason people are hating this reboot then you have not been following the plans for it. There's been very little to be positive or excited about. So much so that Trank had to close his Twitter account. This reboot seems to be more like that other film Trank made than F4.

Whoever came up with that crossover clause in the contracts / where fox or Sony for that matter can not do anything without Disneys / MARVELs permission should get a raise

It sure wasn't AVI Arad. Dude comes off like a straight up beyotch with the disdain he shows for Marvel. The same Marvel that raised his stock in Hollywood. Truly, there wouldn't be a Marvel Studios without him but he knows what the fans want and how it would be beneficial for both studios(Sony more than Disney/Marvel) but he'd rather let Sony/Spidey sink than try it out. But here's hoping the rumors are true that Spidey will appear in either Avengers 2 or 3. It will give them both a well needed boost, especially now that DCU appears to have gotten into the game with BvS.

It makes total sense to me that such a clause would exist because if it didn't then it would become a rights issue. Certain characters like FF could appear in Xmen and cause an extension of rights simply because they were on screen. I don't think any of the other studios were thinking about crossovers till we got Avengers and it made a billion.

I remember my first beer.

Except for Johnny, at the time of the teleport accident the others are in their early 20's, I hope that doesn't discourage you from watching the film. :cwink:

That is fine, it sounds like you are going to get a movie that you will enjoy. That doesn't mean that all fans (of which you don't really seem to be, as far as your knowledge of the comics anyway.....again, fine, I knew very little of this comic other than the cartoon 10 years ago either, and I'm not a big fan of the 616 version either, I'm more of a MK Fantastic Four fan myself) but that doesn't mean that the fans of 616 can't be upset with what they are seeing and hearing about this movie....you are giving your opinion, they are giving theirs. But, don't disrespect an opinion different from yours. They have every right it looks like at this point to be mad, you have every right at this point to be happy.....hope you enjoy the movie.

He might be the first to not use Days Of Future Past as evidence about why this will be good though

I hope, if nothing else, they make them more mature (if not chronologically older) than they were in UFF.

If Miles Teller is running around talking about how he wants to 'make out' with Kate Mara like Reed does in UFF, that's going to be as cringe-worthy as the dancing scene in ROTSS.

Here's a call sheet for "Henry" aka F4. The "Star Wagons" were set up right out front of my bar's parking lot last night and caused business to be slow. I didn't see anybody, but I did yell "This movie going to suck!" at anyone who could here it.

The reason they are down here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is because it is much cheaper to shoot here, so this tentpole franchise film is getting the ****** treatement. Pitch Perfect 2 is also being filmed here right now,(and is using the same streets as NYC). Here is a Google Map of the area they will be using. Scroll around if like https://www.google.com/maps/@30.444432,-91.187541,3a,75y,155.28h,99.43t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sZ0GCQokm74kDxXrpVRCDwg!2e0 I think that will also be used as NYC, which is ridiculous.

 Thanks for the update. I was just looking around to see if I could find any photos of the shoot. Lots of photos of the set-up, but I couldn't find anything of any actual shooting.

And, yeah, that looks just like NYC. :funny:

I'd almost agree with that. But NYC is more than just skyscrapers in Manhattan.
Brooklyn is the most likely candidate, but when you're down in the Village or up in Harlem, there's not that many high rises. That area looks more like Peter Parker's neighborhood.

It's still not the Fantastic Four though.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, At over 800 feet, the Baxter Building should rival the GE Building (tallest building in Rockefeller Center) and 4 Freedoms plaza would be taller than the Empire State at 1500 feet.
