I have yet to see anyone say otherwise honestly.
The odds of this movie being a critical or financial success are, in my eyes, growing slimmer every day they don't release something.
We don't have a logo, a title, a production still, a shot of the suits, nothing. I can't think of a movie that's ever had this little publicity prior to it's release. Granted it does come out in August of this upcoming year and that is a while, but I remember Thor's first production still coming out a year before it's release. Same with Captain America, same with Spider-man 3, etc.

There were 2 guys here remember? I forgot their names but they tend to pop up once every two months so they are about due.

oh they're on here.. I could name at least one, though i haven't seen him for a bit...

it's typically the users in the X-men forums who think FOX can do no wrong

Yeah although I have seen some of the admit to having doubts after the @D00M news.

Same here. Right down to the Elektra part. :funny:

Do you have Man-Thing though? That was a recent acquisition for me.

But, yeah, unless things change dramatically (and won't completely rule out the idea that this could be better than it seems until we've seen a little more), this is likely to be the first one I ignore.

I'm ten times more interested in Ant-Man at this point and I've never read an Ant-Man comic book.

Haha God no I draw the line at man-thing and catwoman I've never seen either and ya me to I'm literally sitting next to my antman movie poster as I type this.

I feel bad for saying this, but I kinda wish this will flop so Fox can return the rights back to Marvel.

Although it's wishful thinking on my part, cause Fox is going to milk this franchise as much as they can.

I think 99.5% of us are hoping for that. Don't feel bad

Don't feel bad. The bigger the bomb the better chance the FF go back to their rightful home. There might not be a proper FF film for awhile but Doom, Galactus, Surfer, Annihilus, etc. all come home with it.

Yeah, you should only feel bad if you want this movie to succeed and think it is all going well and makes you want to go see it 10 times. :o :oldrazz:

If you felt any other way I'd tell you to get out of this thread :oldrazz:

Wow..you guys are the greatest! :word:

At this point, if I were Fox, I would be concerned that the stink of this could actually tangibly damage my only viable comic book property, namely X-Men.

Look, character liberties, Wolverine/Magneto/Xavier-centricness, idiotic continuity gaffs and everything else included, I enjoy the X-Men movies. I don't love them or anything... they don't fill me with a sense of anticipation, wonder and immersive longing that the MCU movies do.

I do like them though. We won't talk about X3 (which was bad, but a guilty pleasure) and the first Wolverine (which was bad and simply guilty of being bad). But I liked the second Wolverine and the original X-Men film well enough. I thought X2, First Class and DOFP were really cool and really well made and really entertaining. I would watch any and all upcoming X-Men movies that Fox are going to release.

But. I'm also aware that Fox was responsible for this ****ing disaster-in-progress. And I hold it against them. And I question their capacity for decision making. And maybe... just maybe... I think of sitting out the next X-Men flick. At what point does the barrage of hate levied at this franchise result in some small dent in that franchise's earning potential? If I'm Fox, maybe I'm not scared per se, but I'm definitely concerned.

It already has for me. After X3 and Borigins I had decided I was not going to be suckered into watching First Class. However, after garnering such great reviews I decided to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised to be entertained by it. I have some fairly big issues with it but I can still enjoy the film. I also should state that as much as I would jump for joy to see the classic X-Men team up on the big screen instead of Fox-Men, the X-Men are not my personal favorites so I've been tolerant of the films' handling of the source material because they still entertain.

I've had a major bone to pick with Fox's handling of the FF for years however and once this film started moving forward, solely due to Fox's determination to retain the rights to a franchise they clearly don't understand, my tolerance level has decreased significantly. I refused to see The Wolverine and despite all the accolades it has garnered I have not yet seen DOFP. If Fox will do right by the FF somehow then I might come around but as of now I really hate them and refuse to put any money in their pockets if I can help it. I certainly am not supporting their CBMs at this point.

A year or so back, the GA/entertainment media consensus surrounding this movie seemed to be "Stop your whining, geeks... things will be changed from comic book to film!"

As of now, it seems to be "This actually sounds really dumb... he's an internet troll? You've gotta be kidding me!"

If Fox isn't careful, the narrative could easily shift to "Fox ****ed up. They don't seem to understand how to do superhero movies."

I've been really curious what kind of conversations have been going on at Fox. They can't be oblivious to how everybody everywhere thinks this is a steaming pile.

How will they respond? Will they spend more on marketing to try to change people's minds? Will they spend less on marketing, cut their losses and let it die a quick death? Will they just do nothing and figure 'They'll see it anyway'?

I am the closest thing they had to a guaranteed ticket sale at the start of this thing and unless I see something that completely surprises me, I'm just not going. At least some people at Fox have to realize that if people like me don't show up, they have a problem.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall.

Yes to all of that... but my point goes a tad further. Let's say FF does really poorly at the box office. It still isn't too big of a deal. In isolation, Fox can comfortably take that hit since they clearly haven't spent jack on the film.

Till now, everything they've done could possibly be justified by a hypothetical GA member (who knows and cares little about the FF) as an interesting, bold, experimental take on the subject matter.

"Doom, internet troll", however, is in a different category. I can't think of a single person who would come across that and not think of it as contemptibly stupid. This is "Tom Cruise jumping on couch" level of damage... possibly something that could affect their entire comic book movie brand.

The upside (from where I'm standing at least) is that this take is so far removed from any possible (or sane) representation of the FF that I don't think it will hurt the FF brand too much. What I think it will hurt is the Fox CBM brand... which basically translates to X-Men.

One thing I've noticed from defenders is they often use the excuse that we should trust Fox since the past few X-Men films have been great (in their eyes at least), and it shows that Fox's handling of CBMs has moved on from the days of X3 and XMO:W. They say that things are not the same as in the Rothman years (although I have read reports that behind the scenes the interference from Fox hasn't improved.

If this film does turn out to be the massive turkey we all expect it to see that argument will be gone, it won't be something that the Fox fans will be able to use. And as you say it will be interesting to see how much of an impact it could have on the GA and their willingness to trust Fox.

Eh, that argument fails to impact me as I find the X-films mediocre at best. They may have passed muster in 2003 but today it's 2014. Times have changed.

I'm the same, I find the old ones haven't aged well (although I liked them at the time) and the newer ones tend to use characters picked purely because someone decided that they had cool powers (and then gave them brand new personalities different from teh comic versions). Its only recently that I've been able to accept stuff like First Class as a film without getting annoyed at all the continuity and character changes and choices.

But ultimately in all this its how the GA feel that will have the bigger impact long term.

Rumored Plot
Reed is a genius convenience store clerk with Ben. Reed's parents don't care about him, and Ben's dad is abusive. They're good friends and have each other's backs. Reed writes a paper for community college on teleportation that attracts the attention of Dr. Franklin Storm, CEO of the Baxter Building research center.

Storm has a son, Johnny, and an adoptive daughter, Sue, whose father, Storm's old partner, died in an experiment gone wrong. Johnny and Sue are party kids, and Sue is particularly disdainful of science. Reed and Sue don't get along at first.
Victor Doomashev is a anti-social Eastern European computer programmer and hacktivist who calls himself "Doom". He hates the 1%, particularly Storm, whom he claims corrupts science for profit.

Storm uses Reed's paper to complete some equations on a machine to access another dimension, the N-Zone. Reed invites Ben to watch the machine being turned on. Sue and Johnny are also there. Doom manages to hack into the Baxter Building's servers and use a computer virus to damage the machine, which explodes. Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben are exposed to otherwordly energy and become mutants with powers that they can't control.

Storm takes them to the Baxter Building and creates containment suits for their powers. They begin to train. Reed and Storm also begin developing a way to revert the accident. Sue blames Reed for everything, but they eventually become friends and then a couple. Ben can switch off his powers when he's not in danger. Johnny changes colors based on heat intensity, and Sue has some borderline telekinetic thing. Reed is pretty much Reed.

Doom finds out that the four have acquired powers and becomes angry it's not him, so he comes up with a plan to break into the Baxter Building to access the N-Zone through the rebuild machine. As a distraction, he reprograms a bunch of stolen military drones, the "Doombots", to attack the building. The four come together as a team for the first time and save people.

Doom activates the machine and gets technopathy powers or something, basically energy blasts and making machines obey to him, and a fight ensues. The machine goes critical, and, in order to prevent it from exploding and destroying the city, the four push into it and Storm shuts it off.

There's a countdown before it reaches critical mass. Inside the N-Zone, the four battle Doom again, and manage to leave him trapped there after he disfigures himself soaking up too much power. The Four manage to escape, but Ben gets the blunt of it to protect Reed and can't switch back.

The machine is destroyed, Doom is gone, the four have learned to work as a team, and Reed vows to find a cure for Ben. And it ends there.

While it's clearly a reimaging of FF If execution is right this rumored plot isn't all bad.

I agree it's not all bad. This is the best part:

And it ends

i read that they found that plot summary floating around 4chan and reddit. That gave me an idea. We should get those 4chan hackers on the case and to hack the script and whatever they can to get all the info out to screw fox over to the point that they don't bother releasing it lol

Your best bet is to get Doom himself to hack it. He's one of those you know?

I loved the crap out of Man of Steel and Rhino was nowhere near the worst thing about TASM2. Don't compare those to this abomination.

Not to get off subject but MOS was ok. The point the article was making was that it's not Superman from the comics. He was a murderer and off the top of my head, I can't remember him smiling in that movie at all. He's not a "grim and gritty" character and they missed his essense completely. Same as with the F4. These guys are explorers of the unknown.......find the weirdest places. The N Zone can't be realistic, nor can Mole Man. Come on! A short dude who rules creatures in the middle of the Earth!?! How realistic is a dude made of rocks or a guy catching on fire? I blame Nolan with all this "Dark and gritty" comic book crap. If it fits the characters(like Batman or Daredevil)it's fine. But Superman and F4??!!? That is wrong on so many levels.

Oh yeah I forgot we've got some diehard FOX apologist's here. But at this point, I'm sure they will concede that this movie sounds horrible.

Didn't cyclops wasn't right say he could no longer defend this movie after the blogger a Doom news, or has he recanted on that?
