Those are hilarious suggestions, but with the way this movie is going it seems not as laughable and perhaps even more plausible and sad. Now we know why Fox has been keeping everything so secretive related to the project. I would be upset that they were screwing up my favorite comic book characters a second time, but in reality if they fail so hard that it reverts to Marvel, then it will be worth it to get this crap movie in the end.

Because, even if they don't make any money off it, retaining the rights can be considered a win. It means Marvel/Disney has fewer characters available to create another successful franchise (which would be more competition for them at the box office).

I hate FOX.
The MCU version of Silver Surfer, Galactus, Dr. Doom, Latveria, etc, would be so out of this world cool that it pains me to know we won't see any of that for a very long time.

I know. It sucks. To me Galactus and the Thing not being done justice are the toughest to swallow.

After seeing that floating Celestial head and what Marvel did with GOTG, man I can only imagine what they would have done with the Big G.

And as far as the ever-lovin' blue eyed Thing, I was one of the few that actually really disliked the bust on set of the reboot that leaked on the Internet. I just can't help but wonder how Marvel would have done it instead. Look at how Marvel brought the armor of Iron Man to life, Hulk, Cap's shield, Winter Soldier's metal arm, Mjolnir, Asgard, the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket, etc. etc. People want to hate Ant-Man but the art direction looks incredible. (Dude is riding a freaking flying ant!)

Instead of a generic looking mossy-rock Kronan look-a-like with a pissed-off facial expression, I really believe Marvel would have given us something much more faithful to Ben Grimm that would have given us that same warm and fuzzy feeling inside we get when we watch their other movies.

As down as I am about the FF, at least we can look forward to Wakanda, the Celestials, Thanos, and maybe even Adam Warlock someday. I'd like to think we'll see Namor's underwater kingdom as well but with the Universal rights tangle and the fact that DC is bringing Aquaman to the big screen first I think Marvel is going to wait a while on that.

Fox shouldn't even bother with expensive CGI for Thing or Human Torch. Since they already know this is a cheap ass production and that they're not expecting it to be a hit but just to recover costs, why not just give Jamie Bell a rubber suit? Would it really make that much of a difference at this stage if he is only as good as Michael Chiklis's look or the Thing from the Roger Corman movie?

And would it really even matter at this stage if Human Torch only flames on fully at the end of the movie like the Corman version?

It saddens me, really. Marvel has been killing it but think of how much richer their cinematic universe would be if they had the rights to all their characters?
Whatever, I won't dwell on that. FOX is all about the bottom line, and I can't blame them for that, but at the very least they could crank out a decent movie. They've been doing a good enough job with their X-men franchise, why do they have to continually crank out garbage when it comes to the FF?
Marvel showed us this year that a cosmic, sprawling space-opera could be both beautiful and successful. The fact that FOX is struggling to get the FF right, arguably one of the richest and most interesting parts of the Marvel pantheon, goes to show their complete ineptitude.
Alright so I'm just spitballing here, but let me think out loud for a moment. Since this movie hasn't released anything, not even a damn title or a logo, it's safe to say that FOX is clearly unhappy with this production. They've got a stinker on their hands and they know it.
Could this mean that the release date will get moved back again? If so, when would the rights revert back to Marvel if FOX does not put a movie in theaters? Would that happen anytime within the next year or two? I thought it was a seven year deal, and the last movie came out in 2007. Wouldn't that make the expiration date pretty dang soon then? Was the original deal about having a movie in production or in theaters?

Ha! I knew The Hobbit was in trouble the day they announced they were splitting it into 3 films. Can you say cash grab? In all fairness though we don't know how the third one will turn out yet. And there are still sparks of greatness interspersed in there. But yeah it is mostly bloat and sadly the magic from LOTR is definitely gone IMO. What bugs me the most is the absolute perfect casting of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins deserved better.

Yeah me too - but my enjoyment is definitely diminished. I bet when all is said and done someone will make a kick-ass edit into one epic movie minus all of the bloat.

I believe that casting call synopsis has long been pulled but I saved it for reference:

“The Fantastic Four will tell the tale of two very young friends, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm,” states the posting on Acting-Audtions.org. “After an event transforms the boys, they will find themselves empowered with bizarre new abilities. Reed becomes a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions. Ben becomes a monstrous, craggy humanoid with orange, rock-like skin and super strength. However, the two end up being owned by the government and used as weapons. I'm starting to wonder if we've all been off-base about this rights retention thing. Maybe the point is not to pump out a quickie so they can hang onto the property for another 7+ years, but to simply wipe their ass with it before handing it back to Marvel, like it's the chocolate-covered pretzel of movie licenses.

I guess a combination of both would be more likely. If this bombs I can't imagine why they would want to continue paying rent on it.

So they make a turd movie. If it profits they hang onto the license, if it bombs they let it go, but in such a toxic state MS won't dare use it for years and years.

They call it "Foxholm syndrome". But until the studio situation for F4 and XM changes I simply refer to it as "Meh, what else is out..."
