Theres lots of x-men merch, its just all comic book related.

Theres been 2 exclusive x-men legends waves in the last year and a half... the wolverine Legends wave featuring a "build a puck" figure, emma frost, cyclops, wolverine and sabretooth.

Then this year we got a toys r us exclusive original 5 box set, and an x-men legends wave with a baf of jubilee, and featured storm, magneto, modern "x" cyclops, stryfe, and another wolverine.

The movies are the only things not getting merch

And a year and 1.5-2 years ago we got a SDCC x-force box set, and figures of jim lee jean grey and jim lee archangel...

Hehe there was even a Days of Future Past game released on mobile, but it was based on the original comic not the film so Fox wouldn't have gotten a cut even though the game probably got a sales boost from the film.

It's not that there isn't any merch (Funko also puts out X-Men bobbleheads. I have one myself). It's just that there's noticeably less than there used to be before the movie rights thing seems to have gotten ugly. Even Wolverine gets way less than he ever did before. What little I've seen the past several years tends to be tied into other things, as well. Superhero Squad, for example.

Yeah, that's what I meant. There is some limited stuff, but compare that to characters like Iron Man and Hulk that are all over the place.

I really dont think there's much less, theres just not a big demand like their was in the 90s.

Generally speaking, the avengers and guardians are now the it thing...

Marvel still has alot of x-men comic merchandise, its just not in your face 24/7

Why isnt a big deal being made about Heimdall being black and Lady Sif being white?

.... thats because they're more popular.

here's the simple truth about the toys at least..

The hasbro reps said theyre taking a break from x-men figures for a little because they're not selling like avengers toys are. For instance, The Wolverine Marvel Legends wave was shopped around to retailers, it originally included Rogue and Phoenix 5 cyclops, but no one was picking it up. The X-men Origins toy wave sold horribly and it unfortunately left a bad taste in retailers mouths. They peg warmed all over the place . So hasbro cut down the wave, nixing rogue and P5 cyclops and had to make the wave exclusive via online retailers and comic shops.

It had nothing to do with FOX. Hell, if anything, FOX has alienated kids from enjoying the x-men films with the adult themes, so the kids just arnt wanting toys and merch. That, and there's no current x-men cartoon...

Because they're relation is not known in the mcu, and uts not common knowledge...Ive been a huge marvel fan for 25 years, and had no clue they were siblings... theyre also alien space gods... that adds leniency.

Marvel doesn't control the cinematic rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four. And Pixar already did an animated film of F4, one that looks closer to the source material than Trank's FFINO.

I'm sorry I meant animated tv and film rites. I read that they did. Regardless of the Incredibles greatness they still weren't the F4. Yes kinda of similar in a sense but still different.

That's...actually a very good explanation. Thank you.

Basically because they are minor characters, their relationship isn't very important, and they don't have a lot of fans.

How upset people are going to be is always going to be proportional to how popular and important a character is. It is why there are a million times the number of complaints about Dr. Doom than there are say...about Batroc the Leaper.

Exactly. This is also why people arn't up in arms about the gotg changes, and even to a better extent, not upset at all about the BigHero 6 changes.

The more known, the more ingrained, something is, the less people are willing to accept change.

If its that well known, that popular, etc... it means it worked. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it

If its something like big hero 6, that never was popular... it means it was broken and a fixing is welcome

Why isnt a big deal being made about Heimdall being black and Lady Sif being white?

Probably because they are not part of Marvels First Family....

At first the reaching for positive for this project was kinda sweet, then it was funny, now its annoying.

Lets also not pretend like the Heimdall and Sif relationship is anywhere near sue and johnny levels

Right.

I also want to add that it isn't just this one thing that this movie got wrong. If it was, there would be complaints, but it would be still recognizable as the Fantastic Four because all the other elements would be intact.

The big problem with this film is that EVERYTHING is like this. They didn't just mess up Sue and Johnny's relationship. They messed up EVERYBODY'S relationship. And none of the four or Doom resemble their comic book counterparts. And they've got the tone of the film all wrong. Etc. Etc.

That's what makes it FFINO. They didn't just change one important aspect of the comics. They changed virtually everything, so that it no longer resembles the comics at all. If it wasn't for the names, I probably couldn't tell you what comic book they were even adapting.

Don't forget, now we've also got Jimmy Grimm instead of Daniel Grimm.

What's really annoying is that Fox has a lot of great stories at their disposal but refuses to give them the depth and complexity they need to make a great, lasting impression. Fox's way of adapting comic books is short sighted and unfocused, choosing to cram in as much public friendly, inexpensive, hip-at-the-time crap as possible. Although this kind of movie making is safe, mostly because it worked before when no one knew if this kind of story telling could be successful, it tends to leave their superhero movies in a very mediocre state over time.

What's going on with the new Fantastic 4 is, even though they're saying the film is "gritty" and "edgy", it's whole production has been about retaining the rights while riding on a fading cinematography trend because it's cheaper to make it as such. Fox's intent is definitely not about bringing creative justice to a team of fictional characters that helped make Marvel into the titan that they are today, but rather a contract obligation and the business equivalent of a middle finger to Marvel Studios. A movie shouldn't be made because it's mandatory, it should be made because the people behind it think that it's an creative, passionate idea that would work well for a motion picture.

Personally, upon pondering it, the next person to describe a film as "gritty", in the next decade, should be rubbed vigorously with sandpaper....

I wonder if Stan Lee will make an appearance in this crap.

(He's meaning they're brother and sister, and yet different races)

He's trying to compare why their situation is acceptable and sue and johnny's change is not

I honestly didn't know that, and I'm a serious comic geek!
