The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 8

Honestly, Marvel should keep up the fight.

Bring out the big guns and "officially announce" X-Men is being removed from the MU in some big event.

Then send in the lawyers. Say, listen up Fox. We will continue making X-Men comics including some film tie-in arcs, allow you the rights to X-Men merchandising (or whatever), and give you $X00,000,000 if we can have all the other Marvel properties back.

At least, that's what I would do. Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer/Galactus could be the anchor for an entire phase for the MCU. That's like $4 billion worldwide in ticket sales alone. Something Fox just isn't capable of.

I honestly didn't know that, and I'm a serious comic geek!

That's what future generations will be saying about Doom and the FF: that they didn't know he was anything but a blogger or that the FF aren't all supposed to be the same age, or that Johnny and Sue aren't black and white siblings. :o

@Proxy: Yeah but Marvel potentially has all that in PIV or PV if this one flops and Fox ends up having to give the rights up anyhow.

The fact that Marvel wants the SS and Galactus is reason alone for FOX to hold onto the rites. They know Marvel has been very successful and their fear is releasing the characters and Marvel makes a gold mine off a film and they lost out. I don't care if Marvel does offer them that deal they won't accept it. They have no idea what so ever what to do with SS and Galactus, as well as Super Skrull an the Skrull race. They can't even get the F4 right and Galactus seems to be an alien concept to them to grasp to the point where they made him a cloud. With all this being said they aren't going to give up the rites.

It's not going to flop trust me. The film will be profitable, even if that profit is small it'll still be profitable. The budget is low enough where it's a given that it'll make it's money back. I think the only way for this film to fail is if Disney launches an all out war to discredit it. They already have the fanboy community on their side. Organize them or us effectively and we can flatline this film where even the general audience won't go see it. GL proved that despite being a bad movie it still made money. It opened to 55 million and made over a 100 million in the US alone.

Green Lantern was a huge money loser. It had a $200 million production budget and worldwide barely made over that. Add in the promotion budget and the roughly 50% theater cut of the gross and it was one of the biggest flops of the last decade, if not all time.

Green Lantern was such a waste on every single front. Financially and creatively.

Not necessarily. I mean Dredd had like a 50 million budget and still ended up in the red when it was all said and done. FF also seems like it's going to eschew most of the elements that international audiences like to eat up, which casts some doubt on the film's profitability on that front.

Why isnt a big deal being made about Heimdall being black and Lady Sif being white?
Why are you comparing human characters to NORSE GODS? Isn't Loki pretending to be Odin right now???

I personally have more stock in the F4 franchise than I've ever had in Thors so the short answer would be because I don't really care.

Some films I'll give a pass to when they occasionally divert from source because I feel that they (Marvel) deserve the benefit of the doubt. While others I hope crash and burn. (Fox)

Possibly but then the question is why bother holding on to a franchise that could churn out $700m+ if you're only settling for chump change? Disney clearly isn't buying for whatever ridiculous price Fox is asking for so is holding this franchise to spite or ransom it to Disney worth tarnishing your company's name?

Fox is discrediting themselves but that's nothing new. So I'm wondering how Disney's legal team are viewing this situation. Especially the whole Domashev debacle.

That's what I don't get. Had Fox been willing to work with Disney/Marvel, they probably could have had some winks into the MCU, thus boosting their own revenue. But now just doing small childish crap, they are hurting their own wallets because now Marvel can do little things to make them look bad. I think when Disney went after Trank for Star Wars to stall F4 production so the rights can lapse(a la Daredevil)it was only the first of many of their tricks. Even though this thing has wrapped up production, I don't think Disney is done. I wouldn't be surprised if the re-release the Incredibles in 3D just to take away from their gross. Like Nokio said, with the budget being so low, I really don't think it's going to bomb like all of us are hoping but I pray to God that I'm wrong.

I have to say this whole experience is making me less interested in seeing future X-Films. Not as an intentional boycott, but because I am starting to feel so negatively about what Fox is doing with FF, the feeling is leaking through to other films and giving me a negative opinion in general regarding Fox Superhero films.

I don't think Fox has any intention of letting go of the FF rights unless they absolutely have to. Marvel basically publicly humiliated them by putting a decade worth of their CBM films to shame in a fraction of the time. In 2007 everyone was laughing at Marvel studios back in 2007 for daring to make films about Iron Man and Thor. Within 5 years they had the highest grossing non-Cameron film of all time. Now everyone is trying to emulate their 'shared universe' success and play catch up. Marvel basically took the best elements of the source material and put in on the screen. They didn't try to hide the fact that they were making comic book movies. The characters look how they do on screen as they do in the comics. Then Marvel really put the screws to Fox with GotG, basically their new FF in the MCU, and it looks like it will be the highest grossing movie of the year, over their much ballyhooed DoFP.

Fox could've been making a Fantastic Four movie in the spirit of MCU films, but because they clearly have no idea what they're doing and are just acting out of bitterness and spite, holding on to the last few decent franchise scraps they have left before Disney pulls the rug out from under them completely, they've decided to make this quasi-'in name only' rights grab on the cheap that they have no intention of promoting.

Looks like GOOSEBUMPS has been moved to April 2016. Shame.

Way to sandwich your tentpole between the Bats and Cap Sony.... clueless.

What, they were afraid of FFINO?

Marvel should move Ant Man to the Avengers slot and Avengers 2 directly opposite FFINO. It's not like Avengers won't do well there in August. Then at least AOU will properly conclude phase 3.

I haven't seen any Fox superhero movies in theaters in years. I can't lie, I was really tempted to see DOFP but didn't because of this feud. Thank God it is on Demand now and I can watch it but I'm not putting a dime in Fox's pockets with the blatant disrespect to fans. It's like they want fans to be pissed off and support them at the same time. I think there are monkeys running Fox.

Obviously.

Thing is they put out good movies when they give a damn. Still not seeing any money out of me for them though.

It would be cool if the only audience for this movie were a room full of blind people. Then MBJ's prediction that they'll see it anyway would take a different turn.
