The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 9

I see some of you waste no time believing nasty rumors about the dude who dared change a fictional villain's name.

Yeah. The reason people are paying attention to these rumors isn't because they've been around for the past 3 months and are becoming more and more widespread with no evidence to the contrary, but because they changed Doom's name.:whatever:

I won't out the person publicly (they can say who they are if they choose to), but someone who lives in the area sent me a private message in October saying very specifically that Trank had been fired.

Since that time, I've seen more and more people suggesting the same thing, but that just shows you this isn't something new that just popped up.

It's only being talked about more now because of the accumulating evidence.

Exactly. And it's not like they even have to address the rumors directly. They could just release a photo of Trank in the editing room.

But the rumors are becoming so widespread that, combined with the deafening silence from Fox, I'm pretty sure there are some ugly things going on.

They could release a photo of Trank in the editing room. He could be sitting in handcuffs after someone tells him to wait there while the cops arrive to arrest him after he's been as high as a kite on set. Maybe that will address the rumours. :o

I suspect this may already be the case, but they probably won't make a big announcement about it.

Since Trank wouldn't have started until he finished FF anyway, Disney is probably quietly looking for replacements and someone will be announced once the Trank rumors have been more or less broadly confirmed.

Unlike Fox, Disney will probably manage to find an alternate director to take on the movie and won't have to push forward with Trank anyway like FFINO.

He can be a wedding video creator. Plays into his found footage style. :oldrazz:

Well if the "showing up to set high" rumor is true...the porn/wedding/reality tv circuit isn't going to want him either.

These rumours may not be true but something is going on with this movie, sometimes the truth is Somewhere in between. Hell look at all the rumors of thor 2 even though the film ended up serviceable you can tell something was off in the production feige had to specifically state thor ragnarok would be better at the presser lol.

The fact that Ant-Man, now has a trailer out after some very nasty negative stuff went public over the summer, and FF still has zip nada, shows how deeply in trouble this film is. Which is probably a good thing for the fans.

The best thing for the FF is for this film not to get released. Regardless of the movie rights, Marvel/Disney can at least then go back to promoting them in the comic world.

I suspect, whether they will admit it or not, this would also be the best thing for Fox.

Even if their spreadsheets tell them they can make a few bucks by cobbling together and releasing a film that never should have been green-lit in the first place, it's going to be a stain on the studio.

Releasing a film that should never see the light of day will diminish the X-Men films some by proximity ( I always liked the X-films, but Fox continues to F*** with FF, I find the X-Films leaving a bad taste in my mouth by association ). They'll also piss off Marvel more than they already have, and that will make working with them in the future on X-Men more difficult (and will likely make Marvel squeeze the X-Men more than they already have . . . could the X-Men get cut out of the comics soon also? ).

If this film is really as a big a mess as it seems to be, Fox would be smart to just stop here and not continue to drag it out.

Other than the director leaving, what else happened with Thor 2?

The best we can hope for is that Fox recognizes that this is a bowl of crap and decides to not release it and sell it at a discount price back to Disney. That is Marvel's/Disney's best bet. Other wise, I can see them totally releasing this garbage and it making it's budget back.

I think it depends how much they spent on the movie. I mean if this comes out and looks like crap I wont see it in theaters.
But if they spend, say, 90 mill on this. I dont see why not release it if it's already completely made. You have a better chance of getting some money back.

Im not gonna lie I wanna see this even if it's a trainwreck. Will I pay money for this if it's bad? No, but it's almost like a car crash that you just ahve to see for yourself to believe. At least to me...it cant be as bad as Last Airbender which still holds the title of being the worst adaptation of a comic or cartoon

More and more I am wondering if the Trank meltdown has to do with corporate pressure. With FFINO producer Matthew Vaughn coming out and saying "grim and gritty" superhero films are passe, Trank may have been unwilling make radical changes that would put the film more in line with GOTG than TDK.

It would certainly be in FOX's best interests to get something out of the Mouse now rather than further piss off Marvel fans - who, oddly enough, also tend to be interested in films featuring the X-Men, Deadpool and Wolverine. Putting garbage into theaters in order to hold onto the rights for seven years just so we can go through this entire dance again in 2022 is pointless.

What about a deal like the following?

1) Marvel allows FOX additional time to hire a new director and put FFINO together after the Trank meltdown.

2) The film is released VOD under the title "The Ultimates".

3) Marvel kicks in 50% of so of the budget in return for whatever profits (if any) are realized from the film.

4) Marvel agrees to cooperate with FOX in scheduling upcoming features as well as allow for limited merchandising for FOX-Marvel films.

5) In return, Marvel gets full control of the Fantastic Four family of characters immediately after "The Ultimates" finishes its run on VOD.

Who says no?

Yeah, the Vaughn quote today was VERY interesting.

Unfreakin' believable. So Vaughn is one of the 'masterminds' behind the "grounded and gritty" Fantastic Four that nobody ever wanted, and then he comes out today and says what people really want are fun, escapist films like Guardians of the Galaxy. You know, like we understand and have been saying all along.:wall:

The only way his comments today wouldn't be completely infuriating is if he's behind the scenes right now arguing that Fox needs to scrap this crappy version of the FF that's scheduled to come out in 7 months.

Disney covers the budget x2 for Fox. Movie is never released. Disney protects themselves from litigation from cast/crew involved by getting them to sign a paper, giving them work, or paying any actors/crew involved off. And Disney not allowed to do FF for a few years or Fox retains distribution. Pretty simple solution.

I'm wondering if Marvel will disallow the use of the Marvel logo in the opening credits should this film be released. That would be within their rights to do so.

I think it would make sense considering they have pulled all public advertising from the Fantastic Four, from all their other marketing materials.

Other than the director leaving, what else happened with Thor 2?

There was a disagreement over the music in the film. They fired Carter Burwell the original composer, and hired Brian Tyler who had just done Iron Man 3.

Alan Taylor was apparently upset about the decision.

“People want fun and escapism at the moment,” Vaughn told SFX Magazine (via THR). “Look at the success of Guardians of the Galaxy. I think Nolan kick-started a very dark, bleak style of superhero escapism, and I think people have had enough of it.”

Thanks. So if Vaughn is saying that, and he's connected with Fox, then what will Fox have to say when they try to put out this grounded and gritty style of FF which is completely contrary to what it should be? It's like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. It might work for Batman but FF is completely the opposite of that.

Just imagine if this FF reboot was never actually intended to get a release, just like the 1994 Roger Corman movie. Fox is just throwing something together to hold onto the rights and do something else in the future.

Considering the movie is apparently very low budget (I've heard it is going to be a found footage movie), would anyone be surprised if that happened?

At this point I almost 100% believe those rumours. What a shame.
