It's all clear to me now. Only one man has what it takes to play Josh Trank.

This is where Avi Arad gets some rather unfair blame. The Fantastic Four film rights had nothing to do with Avi Arad. 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to Fantastic Four (and X-Men as well) back in 1994, back when Arad was a part of ToyBiz. Arad became more involved with Marvel in 1995 when Ike Perlmutter started his bid to gain full control of Marvel and Arad's involvement with the movies started in 1996 when Marvel formed Marvel "Studios."

The fire sale that happened in 1999 involved Sony's Columbia Pictures getting the rights to Spider-Man and Daredevil for dirt cheap. But it's not like Marvel was in a position to demand more money. Arad was able to get more money later on for future rights sales like selling Daredevil to New Regency/20th Century Fox and Thor to Columbia Pictures, when Marvel was boosted by the success of Spider-Man and X-Men.

Before Arad was involved with Marvel, Marvel sold the film rights to their properties for absurdly low prices. Like pathetically low. Marvel sold the Fantastic Four film rights in the 1980's to Constantin Film for $250,000. Spider-Man was sold to Canon Films for $225,000.

If anything Arad helped them quite a bit by getting Marvel off the ground to where they are today. While he deserves a lot of criticism for the way he runs the Spider-Man film series, Arad doesn't deserve a lot of the hate he currently gets.

Fair enough. I'm always too eager to assign blame to that guy.

It's being reported on the site that should remain nameless that Fox have moved up their release date for Fantastic Four 2. It just makes no sense what so ever. It's almost like they are saying we know it's going to suck, so why prolong it. Lets just get it out of the way. If Fox releases this movie I am going to be so depressed. It just plain sucks.

The bummer here is that this movie will probably turn enough profit to get a sequel that is less profitable and we go through this all over again...just like 8 years ago with ROTSS.

I just finished watching Whiplash. Christ....Im saying it Teller is one of the best actors out. Definitely the best under 30. Ive liked him since Rabbit Hole and he's so good at playing the shy soft spoken guy or the cocky fun loving guy.

Even though Im not a fan of young Fantastic Four, It's a damn shame that he's being saddled with this movie that sounds like it'll be crap.

All of them are great actors. Just rewatched the Toby Kebbell "Black Mirror" ep the other night. But they are all entirely wrong for their roles. MBJ is actually closest.

I like MBJ. Big fan of Friday Night Lights and The Wire. Liked him in Chronicle. But I still dont get why people liked him so much in Fruitvale Station. I mean he was fine, but idk.

Miles Teller could pull off a good young Reed. I just dont think they should use young Reed.

At least, I have solace in the fact that they all will bounce back

I was reading some of the actors' quotes from wikipedia and I can't stop shaking my head.

Miles Teller: "When I read the script, I didn't feel like I was reading this larger-than-life, incredible superhero tale. These are all very human people that end up having to become I guess what is known as the Fantastic Four."

Michael B. Jordan: "We're more or less a bunch of kids that had an accident and we have disabilities now that we have to cope with, and try to find a life afterwards – try to be as normal as we can."

------------------

Then there's this:

"Mara said that she was supposed to read the Fantastic Four comic books for preparation. However, director Josh Trank suggested to her that it was unnecessary with writer Simon Kinberg adding, that the film is not based on a single issue of the Fantastic Four comic books."

So is Trank saying that this movie is not based on ANY issues of the FF comics, or that it is not based on just one issue of the FF comics? A lot of actors in comic book movies will check out the comics even if those particular issues don't correlate with the story in the film.

If you're able to see how poor this is going to be then why did you say this earlier:

I'm genuinely excited to see this movie (if it comes out) because I honestly have no idea of what to expect.

To any FF fan or really any comic book fan it's absolutely soul-crushing to know that these characters are being denied their true potential by a spiteful studio.

Principal photography lasted 3 months, not 2. It is well established. Is the poster of the 2 month "estimate" suggesting the production lost an entire month of work because cast members were spotted in "other places" over the course of the 3 month period?" I don't think that information should be put on the "things we know" list. Nor should the found footage/hand held cameras stuff, but let's not go there because there's that dead horse factor to think about. PETA will be stepping in soon. :)

When we were all following the "production" it seemed pretty apparent that even though they announced that principle photography had commenced, they were seemingly only shooting B unit stuff for a month before any first team actors showed up.

Fair enough. I'm always too eager to assign blame to that guy.

Well I have always felt Avi Arads business senses were good and that he was an important part of getting Marvel out of the bankruptcy they were in. However, he is a business man and he doesn't have a creative bone in his body. So it's when he began to implement and influence these movies in that capacity that people started hating on him, and rightfully so as his ideas are pretty bad. So, it's ironic in that he was somewhat necessary as was the sale of some of the rights to their characters to be used in film, so they could continue to function, and yet all of it comes with this steep price that to me seems unbearable to pay back as a fan of the characters. I just wish there was another way they could have saved themselves without selling their souls.

They're just trolling Disney.

I pray Marvel outright buys the rights soon so we won't have to put up with this..

Fox made $5.5B WW last year. So it's not like they're strapped for cash. They're just being greedy, bitter !@$%#$ at this point.

Trust me if it was as simple as Marvel buying back the rights I'm sure they would have.

It's a nice little wish of mine.
Honestly I really do think this film will make enough to profit and will get an eventual sequel, and that saddens me.

That's why they need to give up something that money can't buy and that FOX also theoretically craves. Some merchandising rights and/or TV rights to X-Men.

The sooner Marvel realizes that those guys are never coming home the better. As flawed as the FOX-Men films are, that's probably for the best. Let those films continue to exist in another universe anyway. It's more natural. And only give up partial merchandising rights and not in perpetuity this time.

I think FOX would/should bite on that. FOX is happy. Marvel is happy. The fans are really happy. Starting dropping FF hints throughout Phase 3. Maybe Reed appears in some Illuminati type meeting with Cumberbatch, Diesel, Boseman and Downey before INFINITY WAR PART II, maybe in INHUMANS. Surfer pops up in GUARDIANS 2 or CAPTAIN MARVEL. And Doom is hinted throughout, like Thanos was before.

Then Phase 4 is all about THE 4 as the throughline. Make it hap'n, Cap'n...Feige!

No...

Have you been listening? Why give Fox more money?

If FF never returns then it's not like Fox is getting much for it as it stands either.

We don't need this franchise to revert we just want it to. But if it doesn't, fine, Marvel will make do as they been have.

Meanwhile Fox can continue pushing their FF directors to drink and do drugs.

While I don't want to give FOX money that they don't deserve, I DO need the FF to revert. I couldn't care less about merchandising rights. I know, I know. Not my company.

And of course Marvel will be fine without them but imagine what could have been. Downey and company will be gone soon.

Well established? Define well established. Because Kinberg said so?

Show me a photo of one set-piece that was set up in May. Show me one call-sheet for extras saying: "report here" in May. Show me one tweet by anyone saying "we were filming today" from May.

The only thing we saw in May was a photo of the cast that appeared to be them showing up for a script-reading in mid-May (they went in different directions after that and didn't return until June).

When it comes to what I believe regarding this production, I base it on evidence, not on what I want to be true.

Fantastic Four may very well get a sequel but it's not a lock to happen.

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out Sony annouced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 were coming out 2016 and 2018. A Fantastic Four sequel is not guaranteed, no sequel is guaranteed until the first film's box office numbers are in. This dating sequels thing is just something studios do now because of the crowded calendar, they don't guarantee a sequel.

Me either. It's like they are saying "this may suck and yes we don't have a clue what we are doing but gosh darn it! We are going to keep trying until we get it right. We may spend $400M to make 4 movies only to bring back $402M DOM but no way is Marvel getting this back and making $1B off of it. It ain't happening!" This makes no sense whatsoever. Why don't they just expand the X-verse and work with Marvel and ways to improve their product. They are acting like idiots. They can make a way to maximize their profits. They don't have a freakin clue!

Fox playing these shenanigans with the sequel date really makes me angry. If they were confident about the franchise then they would release something from the damn film that is coming out this year.

No - all this is is Fox declaring their intentions to hold the Fantastic Four prisoner forever. They don’t care if they have a stinker on their hands. They are never giving up these rights. This is a giant middle finger to Marvel and fans everywhere. I hope this reboot flops now more than ever.

& if fox thinks rival studios like Disney / MARVEL or WB / DC / Sony will back down from a release date just because they see The Faketastic Four listed. They got another thing coming
