The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

What's the point of bringing Joker back if he doesn't utter lines and you can't even see him?
To show he is around in that world, you don't always need to see or hear the joker to feel his impact. (the end of BB)

Please, the only reason why people want Joker back is because they are his fanboys. I'm against recasting, unless it is very, very, very well needed.

Well I want Joker back so he could be one character that was in a way present through three films fleshing out the universe more. I however don't want a third movie about him again.

That's evident when he's the main baddie of TDK. :o

Didn't you just prove my point?
I don't see how I proved your point? That simple Joker card was enough to provoke thoughts of the audience as to what this Joker would look like. People were excited for a sequel blah blah blah. You don't need to see Joker or hear him to bring him back and still have a strong impact on the film.

You stated that we don't need to see/hear Joker to feel his presence. That would further support the claim that we don't need to see him at all, would it not?

EDIT: Actually, looking at it again....they're both saying the same thing. :funny:

I quite like the idea of low level street thugs and killers running around still wearing the clown masks in the third film, perhaps going so far as having to cut themselves as a tribute to their great inspiration, in order to be accepted into the gang. It enables Jokers influence to the criminal fraternity to be shown without using him.
It could enable a street war between Jokers minions and the remaining mob crews, just as a sub-plot to the main villian(s)

Well the impression I got from your post was there would be no point to feature the Joker (the character) in anyway shape or form into a third movie if you aren't going to see him. Clearly I was mistaken.

Agreed,
I was thinking about this and I think all they would need to do is have lines like "The Joker blew up another _____ today" or things like that.

Cant say Ive ever watched Beyond, apologies. Don't think Nolan would do it quite like that though! Anyways was just an idea. Bottomline is that Joker is bound to have had a major influence of some kind over street level crime and people breaking laws just for the hell of it. Nolan already did the copycat thing with Batman in TDK - is it too much to imagine him implementing an opposite of that for the third film.

At this point (a week before wide-release) talking about recasting is pretty disrespectful. At least wait to see the guys performance before you poop out boring, obvious choices of actors to play the role. You never know, if the hype is the real deal, someones going to have to have serious chops to follow what Ledger did.

A great example of this is The Crow. No one ever came that close to Brandon Lee's take on the character, everyone who followed seemed to Parody what he did. I know 75% of that was in the bad writing the actors had to work with, but the actors (some we're kinda talented) really just ended up mimicking Brandon even though they played different characters.

I haven't pooped out any suggestions, but the point is I wouldn't want someone to carry on Ledger's performance, so it's irrelevant. Gilliam was thinking about recasting half of Ledger's Parnassus role, I don't find it to be in any way a slight on him

The Crow has nowhere near the range of this character.

Urgh, well that completely ruined the whole "Joker gang" idea. Although I'd like to see it done I don't think it would pan out. The types The Joker attracts are clearly mental defectives. With him locked up they'll probably gravitate towards someone like the Scarecrow or the Mad Hatter who have similar skills in controlling those weaker than themselves. Plus, whilst to people like Scarecrow a steady stream of goons is important I would imagine that The Joker is rather blase about it all. He's just as adept on his own as he is when he has some hired help.

Yeah that pic fell like a giant turd onto my wonderfully thought out idea.

I love the Jokers.A bunch of wannabes, shows how alluring his personality and theme is. The best part is The Joker hates Jokers.

agreed. its the same thing as when virals stopped after heath died, its too soon. i do feel kinda like an ass discussinga re-cast

Hi guys, just a small question concerning the Joker?

Has it been revealed yet of what Joker's intentions are concerning Batman? I mean does he really want to kill him? Does Joker really mean it when he says that he needs Batman to survive in Gotham (Mediforically speaking of course) Or is Joker really trying to get Batman to cross that line of no return by making him break his one rule, even at the possible expense of his(Joker's) own life?

Nice job! I'd pick the middle one myself.

Ideally I think The Joker would like to destroy Batman only for him to come back stronger than before. He wants to challenge him because in his mind it's all a game, he cannot see the seriousness of his actions.
