The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Some people just don't like comic books, and they are perfectly within their rights. The Joker (and other characters born from comics) have become bigger than the medium they were created for. This is also ok. This is why we have cartoons and movies with these characters in. It's rather an elitist attitude to think that people cannot love a character without loving the medium they were made for.

I myself love comics, but that doesn't mean I'm any more a fan of certain characters than someone who only likes them in cartoons and/or on film.
yeah i understand your point of view, but there comes a point when you got people who are trying to relate to you with they're love of the joker and it turns out they dont respect the origins you know? And it just disturbs me how many times I've heard these chubby goth kids who are sexually attracted to this new joker and I just have to throw my hands up and say, you just dont get it do you?

OK let me ask all you guys this. Am I the only one really really annoyed by the Hot Topic crowds obsession with the joker? I have a friend who's a chubby goth and is obsessed by the dark knight and she has joker stuff everywhere on her walls and her myspace just everywhere, so I say well if you like the joker then check this out and I hand her a copy of the killing joke and she says eww I hate comic books those are for nerds......I'm moderatley enraged in seeing the bastdardization of my favorite comic book villian. Am I alone in my frustration?

Well, get used to it. Hot Topic used to be a cool store when they started popping up in the late-90's, now they are a corperate flea market that caters to every "dark" genre without being too dark. It's a store that has policy to not sell products with Pentagrams or Black Metal merchandise, and is more concerned with playing nice and not causing an uproar and sells parent-friendly rebellious crap. The Joker fascination, well, that was coming as soon as those first joker shirts sold out. In a couple weeks, you'll see purple trenchcoats and green vests on all the walls there.

As for your "chubby" female friend, that was coming as well. Heath Ledger was a sex symbol before his death. The comic stuff is typical ignorance, I seen the same crap when the Crow was popular. Girls were swooning over Brandon Lee, but most of them had no interest to read the source material. Dont worry, just like poser fanboys, they will move on to whatever is Hot in the next couple months.

True True, the true fanboys will have batman forever (and i dont mean the movie).....the rest can move on to Twilight in december ahaha:hehe:

Well, Watchmen has gotten alot of attention, but it doesn't have any former heart throbs in it. Like I said man, dont let it get to you. All these schmucks wearing TDK/Joker stuff will get bored in the next couple weeks. But I'll warn you, the worst is yet to come. Halloween.

'Poser fanboys'?

These characters are put into different mediums to reach a larger audience. What you are seeing is that paying off. Whatever people like a character for, whatever the reason may be, is not a bad thing.

They are aiming to reach a wider audience than comic book fans. And they are doing so.

I've never read a Sin City GN but I love the film, and I'm certainly no fanboy poser thingy.

:cmad:

There are some posers though, you're right - I just don't like to generalise ;)

The Joker will absolutely be THE most popular costume come Halloween, for better or worse -- mostly worse.

Expect to see alot of crappy attempts at making a costume, and bad attempts at joker make-up. We've already seen some bad ones (like that kid who was busted in costume trying to steal TDK banners and posters) and some good ones, but the worst is yet to come.

all i know is i'm going as scarecrow. he doesn't get nearly enough love. as far as i'm concerned, unless you have a professional make-up artist helping you, you probably shouldn't go as joker. either do it perfect or don't do it at all, because anything less than perfect will look awful....kind of like batman costumes.

you have said forbidden words. I work at Wal-Mart and when Halloween rolls around its my department.......It'll be great having all the TDK merch around but it'll be poser city. OH and here's a cool little heads up for ye batfans for halloween. Walmart is doing kind of like a specialization thing where different licenced products get their own section like a Hannah Montana Section and a Transformer section and I found it that there will be a TDK section so keep your eyes peeled because wally worlds will start setting up halloween towards the end of the month

When Joker was crying "HIT ME!" why do you think he was getting so angry? I've thought about his reaction a lot and he seems really rattled when he gets out of the truck, especially when he starts shooting at anything that moves, and it just gets worse when he sees Batman coming towards him.

He's evil and crazy and just totalled his truck. And he really REALLY wants Bats to hit him. :)

And did you noticed that he spits on his henchman who gets electrocuted by the mask?

Has Nicholson commented on heaths performance as the joker yet? I could've sworn I saw a quote about nicholson praising ledger in someones signature but I can't find it now.

I remember reading it. He said something along the lines of Heath Taking it to a whole new level.

Look, Heath had his own interpretation of the Joker. Jack had his own interpretation of the Joker. Both were executed quite nicely, so it does not really matter who's better.

If i did have to choose between the two, it would most likely be Heath Ledger, and not because he's not here to receive all this praise.

I took it as the moment that he got a little too agitated by Batman. So he reacts with bitterness and anger. I recall the Nolans saying that you see Joker getting crazier and crazier as the film goes on, and I think this is the beginning of that descent due to Bats.

The intensity in his eyes as he "stretches" his neck and starts walking down the street was damn awesome.
