Urm, ok.

This looks ok. Just ok. To be honest it seems to be on the quality level of sharknado.

I think having a crazier side like wrights is perfect for antman because if you try to go too straight laced and even a little scowly like the trailer then the silliness is quite obvious and the suspension of disbelief is thrown away.

Nice to see cassie though. I probably will see this but only for the same reasons I saw sharknado, mostly because I'm setting the bar very low

I've seen a lot of hate and some grumblings that this will be Marvels first flop a la the same crap I heard with GotG. IMO Edgar is good but he is not some end all be all. I think just like the Russo's had their shot this will put Peyton in the big leagues
People who like to just throw out the "flop" idea every new property are always a minority who do it just to do it. That is like painting all Marvel fans with the, "its Marvel it is good no matter what" brush.

And you could be right about Peyton, but nothing about this tease reminds me of what I saw from the Russos before TWS, much less with TWS. That film looked good from the word go.

Hey for all the Ant-Man fans, good for you guys. Hope you guys love it and it is everything you would want.

I personally can't help but feel that the resources that went into this property could have gone into a better character. Oh well, like I said it's a Marvel movie so it's got my money regardless.
Like?

I felt like GOTG embraced the zaniness of the concept of that universe. The vibe that I get from this trailer is "we want to be taken seriously" and "we're a little embarrassed that this movie is called Ant Man." Just not what I anticipated tonally.

The people who think Ant-Man is going to fail financially are delusional in my opinion.
After GotG, expecting anything to fail, especially coming on the heels of AoU, does feel quite delusional.

Douglas' Pym is giving me some serious Harold Finch vibes. Which would be ironic if he has a hand in Ultron's creation in the MCU.

I do agree that the trailer doesn't feel confident and that has a lot to do with the tone. The idea seems right, but the execution a bit off. Like they get the joke but aren't quite sure how to say it.

This film can further explore the science in the McU (which I'm a nerd for) as well as possibly delving into the notion of superheroes before the Avengers were known to the public. It can also possibly set up strands of the Civil War plot points coming in Phase 3 with Pym now seeming not trusting heroes I believe it was said. And there's also the possibilities of Ultron related things which I have a hard time believing will not involve Pym in some way.

Or it might just be more stand alone since it's project that's been in the works for decades but never really fit into their MCU vision.

If you don't mind me asking what Marvel property would you hve rather seen in this films place?

badly worded. Regular genius, billionaire playboy philanthropist Joe.

What I meant was that they're normal humans who live in the real world, rather than supersoldier's from the past, alien gods, abducted space adventuring manchilds, or secret agents. :woot:
I guess that qualifies in the MCU. :cwink:

The teaser made the film look like a parody of a Marvel film and that's pretty baffling to me. After that awesome Age of Ultron trailer Marvel okayed this particular Ant-Man teaser. It's odd to me.

If you mean these characters:

then well, two of them are already cast with solo projects coming.

I liked the teaser. It gets the job done.
On the other hand, I think this movie will show its strength in how original and well staged his powers are going to be used.
Remember how Whedon talked about combining the heroes' powers for Avengers? Using them when its necessary according to what each of them could do? I think that same thing applies here; how Ant-Man's powers are going to be used with the surroundings, kinda like what Jackie Chan does, everything revolves around what he can use.

I'm digging the teaser, but those are some good points. Guardians managed to be self-deprecating in an unapologetic way, while this one does seem to be reaching for validation through drama and tone.

Wasn't Thunderbolt Ross a part of this movie? Did I miss him in the trailer or was he not shown?

Marvel knows when they need a bunt and when they need a grand slam.

Guess which one Ant-Man is going to be.

I overall felt that this, kind of like the first GotG teaser, was just to try and introduce the GA to the character(s). It wasn't anything special but I thought it did a fine job at introducing us to what we can somewhat expect. (Mentor type seeking a protege to overcome odds in a situation help both parties.)

With most of these MCU movies I'm most curious as to what the film does to connect to the greater universe already established, and this seems like it could do a lot in that regard. But on the flip side it may be more stand aloneish, due to the unknown property and odd powers of the hero, which would suck.

I hope that like GotG that even though it's an odd property the movie is good and that leads people to want to see it. Paul Rudd leading it helps in getting people to see it right off that bat I think.

It is Marvel-ception.

It'll be a solid RBI double off the wall at worst. Something that's almost a HR but still scores. :)

Marvel realizes that this film could in fact flop and they'd still be in the black come years end. Avengers 2 is their show pony this year. Thats where their main focus is.
