Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 6

People who dislike something are almost always more loud than those who don't - hence vocal minority - so I'm not worried about the people making the same comments we heard when the first GotG promotion hit, such as "Marvel's first flop", "crap movie", etc.

And to moan about the CGI is ridiculous. It looks fine, especially when you take into account it'll be tweaked before release.

looks like Ant-Man has some aspects of the cartoon and live action versions of Disney's Alice in Wonderland. Ant-Man uses the red serum to shrink and the blue serum to grow just like how Alice uses the food in Wonderland to shrink and grow.

Surprised by all he negativity that's being directed at this movie.

I know basically nothing about the character but I'm more interested in this than I have been in a few of the other Marvel movies.

Anyone pointed out that Christophe Beck is composing this yet?

I thought the teaser was fine. Not good or bad. It didn't get me as excited for it as the test footage from SDCC a while ago. I assume as the marketing picks up, it'll be more like that.

Now that I'm seeing it in action, I really dig the costume. I'm not overly excited for the movie like I have been with pretty much every other Marvel film, but they've got my money already. The only shock to me was that Lang has a daughter. I can't recall hearing about that plot point before.

How can that be a shock when that's such a major plot point not only of the comics but also of the story that Edgar Wright was adapting in the first place, "To Steal an Ant-Man", where Lang was resorting to burglary to get enough money for medical treatment for his sick daughter?

That's like being shocked that Peter Parker had an uncle.

Exactly, the CG is not at all problematic from what little we've seen.
The negativity doesn't surprise me that much, but I can't help but wonder what people expect from a teaser. It was a touch generic but at the end of the day I question people's motives when they look at this and predict, "Marvels first flop".

Man. Nobody wants to give this a chance.

It's fine to have not liked the trailer but darn YouTube is ripping this thing apart.

Its a mixture of the #JanVanCrime/Why doesn't Black Widow have a movie/Edgar Wright fans, at least from the reaction I have seen on twitter.

And the oh so hilarious, "shrinking is such a lame power, the bad guy would just step on them"

I think some people do want this to fail, and that's not me being conspiracy theorist about it. Whether they just don't care for the character or they feel Wright got wronged (heh heh), or whatever.

The teaser was ok. It showed more than I thought it would. The effects shots were good in my opinion. My only gripe was the music/sound. I thought that aspect was pretty boring.

Honestly, given how the Wright situation went down, this film could have turned out to be a disaster, and the movie actually looks good. Like I have said in the past, I am seeing something around IM2 quality all said and done for this movie. Which I am okay with.

I had no idea people loved the GotG teaser so much.

I sure loved it, I remember the people in the theater being excited about it. Being full of college students.

I read the new Ant-Man comic and it was surprisingly awesome.
The comic really lived up to the hype.

I think Scott Lang is going to win a lot of new fans with that book.

I've been thinking about picking that up or waiting for the eventual OHC. It looks good!

I think it looks good too, then again I'm somewhat of a Marvel Studios fanboy as I've enjoyed everything they have done. Minus certain things in their films I have enjoyed all the films greatly overall. IM2 quality would be fine by me.

"Is it too late to change the name?"

I always wondered why do some people laugh at the name "Ant-man"? How is it different than calling someone "Spider-man"? Is it because spiders are cooler?

Perhaps, when I argued about with a friend I told him you were just used growing up with Spider-Man and Batman, if you just discovered them you might laugh at those names too. I want this film to blow all the laughers away!

I'm waiting for the first person to say, "hey this is the plotline of Sandman from Spider-man 3", even though Rami stole that from Ant-Man.

Janet possibly being killed off I can understand being upset about.

Edgar Wright while talented isn't exactly a guarantee of the movie being any better or worst than what we are getting now. If all these people think everything Edgar Wright does is so great then why didn't they go see Scott Pilgrim?

The Black Widow stuff is just dumb. I honestly can't understand it.

How exactly does Ant-Man which has been in development since 2003 have anything to do with a Black Widow solo film?

Scarlett Johansson has been Black Widow in four movies including this summers Age Of Ultron and is a founding Avenger in the movies which is more than Ant-Man & Wasp fans have got so far.

Johansson was heavily pregnant/giving birth when they were making Ant-Man so it isn't like Ant-Man stole her filming spot because she wouldn't of been able to film a lead in a feature at the time.

Feige also said he likes the idea of a new franchise alongside an established one each year to keep things fresh.

And the oh so hilarious, "shrinking is such a lame power, the bad guy would just step on them"
Silly fools, don't they know Ant-Man can shrink to subatomic size and thus cannot be stepped on! :oldrazz:

Yeah it was pretty insane and frustrating. I really do think its smart for Marvel to put some sort of tie into AoU to link it to Ant-man, just to prove to people there is a connection/link.

I've thought that too. Ant-Man doesn't really sound any worst than Spider-Man, Batman, Blue Beetle, ect if you think about it.

You have some harmless spiders and some dangerous spider. You have some harmless ants and some dangerous ants.

Bullet Ants, Fire Ants, Bullhorn Ants, Red Harvester Ants and Velvet Ants have some the most painful insect stings you can get.

I think it looks good im happy for paul rudd. The guy has been a grinder in hollywood and long overdue for a breakout role.

Indeed, Rudd truly is due. He has such a great range from comedic to dramatic. I really hope this makes him a leading man in Hollywood.

Can't believe I even have to remind that to anyone, but this is just the first teaser... Very rarely there is a first teaser for a movie (especially a superhero movie) that just blows everything out of the water. It was okay, as were many other teasers to movies that turned out awesome at the end. So chill out. More stuff will come.

Ya I don't really know what people expected out of this teaser. I guess that just speaks to the quality of Marvel Studios if people consider that teaser as some big letdown

I was just sharing my thoughts with a friend: I thought the teaser was ok. Not great, but not terrible. Just very...basic. It is just a teaser, though, and I want to keep that in mind. I think we've been spoiled by teasers from films like Age Of Ultron and The Force Awakens, to the point that we now expect something breathtaking. But those are bigger, more grandiose films. Ant-Man will be a smaller (see what I did there?), more intimate heist movie, as opposed to a globetrotting or Galaxy-spanning adventure.

I also think they may have set expectations too high by doing the teaser-for-a-teaser thing, and debuting it on network television along with Agent Carter. They may have created a level of anticipation that the scale of the film could not match.

All of that being said, I can't wait to see more from this film, as it remains my third most anticipated of the year.

I too am very excited by this film
