Bobby Cannavale has revealed in an interview with Esquire that he is playing the husband of Scott Lang's ex-wife, Maggie.

In the comics the Maggie's husband is police Officer Blake Burdick. In the movie he is called Paxton for some reason. Cannavle didn't reveal if his character is still a cop.

Cannavale said his character was in Edgar Wright's version of the script, his role was beefed up in the rewrites following Wright's departure.

Bobby Cannavale sounds like someone who I would not like to work with. lol
And he's obviously never seen Thor. :p

So why so many original characters in the film?

Outside of Scott Lang's buddies the rest of the main cast are comic characters.

I don't mind it when original characters are included in these films, in fact I prefer it to changes such as making The Joker kill Batman's parents.

Ant Man isnt really well known so if theres several non comic characters it wont be a big deal at all. As long as they have the main ones, its cool I think.

Has anyone discussed this: "One Big Change Marvel Made To Ant-Man During Reshoots"

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/One-Big-Change-Marvel-Made-Ant-Man-During-Reshoots-70457.html

When Marvel released the first Ant-Man synopsis last year, it labeled protagonist Scott Lang as a con-man. However, an updated version from January listed him as a "master thief." This doesn’t seem like much of a distinction, but it’s very possible that it’s a subject that’s been debated about behind-the-scenes. As is common for many major blockbusters, Ant-Man recently underwent reshoots, and now new reports are saying that one big change the Paul Rudd character is undergoing actually restores some of the criminal material Edgar Wright originally wrote him.

Scott Lang doesn't really have an notable friends from the comics so making up some for the movie isn't really a big deal.

Marvel obviously changed Lang's ex-wife's name to Maggie because Peggy Carter is in the film and well known by now. Most people don't remember Maggie's husbands name so changing it isn't much of a issue.

And like someone said, considering Maggie and Peggy are both short forms of Margaret, a case can be made that they haven't even changed her name.

So I just realized I've always mistook Adam Mckay with Adam Scott, the actor from Step brothers. So this entire time I've been telling people the guy from Parks and Rec wrote Ant-man.

Adam Scott was in Step Brothers, and I'm sure he and McKay have similar senses of humor, there probably wouldn't be a tremendous difference between the two's writing on a superhero movie
but yeah, no, totally different dude

Yeah that's where the confusion came from, they are both named Adam and were both heavily involved in step brothers.

John Slattery talks Ant-Man with IGN

"It’s the biggest set I’ve ever seen, I think, or I’ve ever been on certainly. It’s just a gigantic room and there’s numbers and girders and you think, is that what green screen looks like? And things change so fast. The way you did special effects last year can be completed outmoded in three months when they figure out some other way of generating some image. But yeah it certainly has become like it’s an industry. Marvel is just this unbelievable force now.”

Asked if Dominic Cooper's portrayal of Howard Stark had any influence on his performance in the upcoming Ant-Man movie, John Slattery replied: "No, I haven’t watched any of it. It took me two years to watch my own [Iron Man 2]. Well no, that’s not true. I’ve seen scenes and I’ve seen him in other things and he’s terrific. I’ve never met him and I’m not a very knowledgeable fan. I’m sure people have, 'How dare he play this when Dominic…?!' I don’t really get into that so much. My participation hasn’t been that involved. I was there for a day and whenever we did Iron Man 2, it was not that much more involved this time."

I've written here before about how much I like the guy, I've been listening to his music for over a decade at this point and he's a very talented, well spoken guy. In this video he hints at the amount of comedy in the movie, saying it will have "more than you might expect".
I know some people here are going to criticize/have a snarky comment for that ("Marvel's all action/comedies!") but it makes a lot of sense given this specific property.
I've defended having Slattery, but that's certainly not encouraging words to hear.

What's not encouraging about what he said? The green screen stuff?

Honestly, all it sounds like is "I have a very small role in the movie", to me.

The complete indifference to Dominic Cooper's take.

Howard Stark in Iron Man 2 was supposed to be stiff. He was an unreachable target his son could never live up to. Given that, I was fine with him seeming boring. But Dominic Cooper gave a lot of energy to that character and I was hoping Howard Stark in Ant-Man could try and draw from both. He still might, but I was hoping he had a better understanding of what he was drawing from.

I assume if Marvel wanted Howard to have Dominic Cooper's energy in the 60's flashbacks they would've just brought Dominic in to reprise him.

Well, there's something to be said for consistency - having the previous older Howard Stark play the same character.
