Some Asians get defensive when you say anime is pro-white and claim anime characters only have lighter hair and lighter eyes so you can tell them apart.

But oddly these differences aren't made with skin color.

Asians actually say this? I think we need the ask an Asian thread...lol

Well...since someone people think STAS Lex Luthor was a "brown" man...

Might as well throw in the green man too... No need to discriminate.

I'm gonna confess, I always thought TAS Lex was a brotha.

I never thought they made Lex black, but up until I saw an actual picture of the actor, I always assumed Clancy Brown was.

Take that to the Confession thread and cleanse your soul.

Unfortunately, all your questions will be forwarded to a call centre staffed by white people in Mobile, Alabama.
You mean Asians outsource to whites and not Indians... I know China will rule the world... I'm now certain of this. :cwink:

At least you're honest.

So this again goes back to my question of what awesome black super heroes/villains are there? Sure there are minority heroes and villains with fans, but none are well known. Heck...even the most well known black characters (I thought EVERYONE knew Black Manta was black :o) are not widely known.

Awesome and well known aren't mutually exclusive. And it's not like characters have to be well known to get a movie. Ant-Man is getting a movie.

So really...what's wrong with changing the race of a more well known character to reflect today's diversity?

There's nothing wrong with it--these are all imaginary concepts, after all--but it's not necessary, IMO. And the characters that they've changed race on so far are supporting characters anyway (biggest exception being the upcoming Fantastic Four).

It's a pipe dream to think you can take a hero like Michael Holt or Luke Cage and turn them into someone with the same recognition and box office appeal as Batman or Spiderman

A character doesn't have to have the same box office appeal to have box office appeal in general. Captain America's movie was one of Marvel studio's lower grossing films yet it's got a sequel coming out that is expected to do big numbers.

Aside from Marvel Studios, who is obviously in a unique situation, no other studio would likely take that risk. I mean...how many female led superhero movies do we have? :cwink: And there are a lot more well known female super heroes than black super heroes. One of the most famous ones can't even get her own movie. She's been reduced to a cameo.... :o

That's on the studios, not the characters. Marvel's situation shouldn't be unique. Warner Bros. should've and could've done the whole "interconnected cinematic universe" first. All their properties are under one roof. Clearly something has been lacking in the behind the scenes leadership department...

Again, Marvel is unique, but I would say that box office appeal and mass appeal are linked together when it comes to most studios willingness to invest in a comic character or franchise. That should be obvious.

I think the FF change could signal more changes on the horizon. Johnny may be the first major character change, but I doubt he will be the last.

Again, Marvel is unique. I almost want to exclude them, but I will say this if any studio is likely to put a minority superhero front and center it will be Marvel, and they likely will be the first to do it. Though seriously WB would never do that, and I doubt any of the other major studios would either. Marvel is a studio that does nothing at this point but produce comic movies and they are willing it seems to take a hit. That's a benefit and luxury they have that other studios do not....apparently. WB will likely never get their **** together when it comes to the comic properties.

Yeah, we all know WB sucks and I agree they should have been had their **** together, but as has been explained to me repeatedly in the BvS threads...WB gave us Gravity and other movies, so comic fans need to suck it. :o

If WB wants to think outside the box they should've cast Paula Patton as Wonder Woman.

She's one of he few actresses who could play a believable Amazonian.

I'd also be interested if she could win over the fanboys despite being black.

WOW...I don't think Patton is the best actress, but she's in the same range as Gadot so...

Patton has shown broader range: serious (Deja Vu), action (Mission Impossible 4), and comedy (Baggage Claim).

Gadot has only played the role of eye candy.

I have only seen Patton recently in 2 Guns. I don't recall seeing her in anything else. I don't even remember her in MI:4.

I think she's an inspired choice for Wondy. I wouldn't mind and since she's of mixed heritage I think she'd fit the role physically as well.

LOL...WB would never do anything like that though... The best they could imagine for Wondy at this point is to put her in a Batman and Superman movie.

No way Patton would win over the Wonder Woman fanboys. They'd not only call her too black, but she'd be the wrong height, wrong body type, her hair would be slightly the wrong color-- and all that is before they start complaining about whatever costume WB would give her.

note: only 3 of the dozens of people complaining would have ever actually read a Wonder Woman comic.

lol...there's some truth to that.

My question is which one member of the JL will be black? I'm thinking they are going to give us a black Aquaman just because how much more hate can AM get...lol.

Oh dear, the first 100 black-man-swimming jokes will be insufferable.

John Stewart, most likely.

:funny: Can't be worse than any Cullen Jones joke...lol

John Stewart, most likely.
Hmmm....Yes he is another one. I'm still not convinced GL will make an appearance in any JL movie due to his disastrous first outing and that's how WB usually treats them after they fail.

They'd just use Cyborg of the Teen Titans in a Justice League movie. That's what DC did for the New52, anyway.

Personally, I'd rather they either use John Stewart as their Green Lantern, or just cast a black actor as Martian Manhunter. As a shapeshifter who's normally green, MM could honestly be played by an actor of any race (though I'm sure people would still complain).
