I always thought it was crazy how b**** is a term of endearment sometimes. Context is an interesting thing.

Context is always an interesting thing. Just go back to the late Bernie Mac's use of the word Motha F**ka.

Calling a woman a gash or the c-word is the equivalent of saying they are a just a person with a hole meant for sexual pleasure.

Some French person correct me if I'm wrong, but the c-word originated from the French word cunny....which doesn't have a nice meaning to begin with.

I never said she can't act. I just think she is overrated.

Actually, it's far older than French. Comes from the old germanic word, kunta. Which was like an ancient Goddess. But as always, people find a way to pervert things.

Interesting. I didn't know that.

Stir it like coffee.....this is in response to the Bernie Mack post.

And that's more offensive than any of the other dirty words you could call a person? I don't even think most people even know that's what the word means. They're only offended because they feel they have to be.

That's the usually the basis for why most people are offended by words...until the words themselves no longer hold any meaning or insult for the person targeted.

Yup.

I like using old terms too. Sloppy Yawn. Google it.

Sure. If there are so many white characters who deserve their own movies, I'm sure we can find one or two black characters who do as well. Black Panther is a popular choice, and from what I've heard about him, I think a movie starring him could be very interesting.

lol....why do you think there needs to be a black counterpart because there are white ones?

I've never heard of Black Panther.... but again I'm not a Marvel fan.

It's strange because I usually think most people know about DC heroes...but in reality they don't know about that hero. Marvel fans need to realize that is the case for Marvel heroes....LOLOLOLOL

Most people didn't know who Iron Man was, and that character made billions. It's all about the execution. Prior knowledge is meaningless.

And Black Panther is the first official Black Super hero. You never heard of BP? Guys awesome. One of my favorite characters of all time. He's like if you mixed Batman with Captain America and Daredevil, and made him twice as rich as Lex Luthor.

lol....why do you think there needs to be a black counterpart because there are white ones?

It's simple logic. If there are a ton of white characters who deserve their own movies, then it's reasonable to assume there are some black characters who deserve movies as well. I don't think any of these white characters "need" black counterparts (whatever that's supposed to mean).

I've never heard of Black Panther.... but again I'm not a Marvel fan.

Neither did I, but you don't need to be. I didn't give a **** about Iron Man or Blade until their movies came out.

I think that you could do a GREAT Black Lightning movie, and it would be even greater if you included Static as well. And not in some way of them being related, but the way Macduffie wanted to have BL on the show originally. Static had a father on the show that was an invested and caring parent, so I wouldn't want to see the father thing, but the idea of the truly veteran black superhero with a kid who has similar powers but a different generation's outlook could be cool.

I prefer Hal, but a John Stewart GL film could work.

I think MR. TERRIFIC could be great too. Especially if you work in the legacy aspect. I mean, here's an African-American superhero that's super cuz he's super smart. I could see him on screen as a sort of more action-y take on Cosby's character from the I SPY show. Plus he's got the tragic death of his wife and unborn son thing. And his standing as an atheist superhero puts him over the top for me. Just... No T mask. It's the one part of the overall design that looks ridiculous to me.

I think that Vixen could also be cool, but I'd play up her dichotomy of being this in demand model and a superhero. That could be both fun and funny if done in like a JLI way on the big screen.

And even though we are getting a Luke Cage tv show, he could have been a solid film series to my eyes. Sweet Christmas, he should have been up there with Danny a long time ago.

And of The King of Wakanda has oodles of screen potential.

Let's not forget how incredibly obscure Blade was before his movies. To this day, most people who've seen the first movie don't even know he's a Marvel character.

It doesn't matter how well known a character is before they get their own movie. They just have to be interesting (although Blade was made to be more interesting than he was in the comics).

Yeah, actual comic Blade sucked so hard, they changed him to match the movie version.

I think they should do a Static Movie instead. I think the character could totally work on his own. Black Spider-Man.

A friendly reminder to everyone waiting for a Black Panther movie:

The movie 47 Ronin was based loosely on a Japanese folk tale based on real people. It takes place during an isolationist period in Japanese history, during which Japan received no visitors from other countries, but the filmmakers still shoehorned a white man played by Keanu Reeves into the lead role.

So, you know... I'm not looking forward to seeing what would be done to a Black Panther movie.

I always wonder why people attribute IM successes to IM and NOT RDJ.... I mean seriously.... really.... ?????

That sounds infantile.... and I'm not trying to be rude by saying that.

I agree with that because I will watch a Blade film when it's one.

Here's a question.... Do you think Blade was successful because of Snipes or because of Blade?

Do you mean Blade the character or the character they came up with that went by the name of Blade? ;)

I'd have to say both, but mostly Snipes. He was incredibly hot at the time and what they came up with was awesome. But Blade on his own, minus the Snipes star power is, well, lacking. Of course that could just be cuz nobodies played him better yet. (I mean, come on, Sticky Fingaz? For realz?)

Of course, Marvel has the rights back, who knows what they do with him. I hope they do an MI13 movie and bring him back in that. Blade is a Black Brit. Lotta people don't know that. :o

Snipe was deep into his post PASSENGER 57, black super-man period, so Blade was right up his alley. No one really knew Blade was a comic book character, I think, as other's have already pointed out.

To me, Snipes lost something when he went full on action hero/actor. My favorite roles of his are WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP, MAJOR LEAGUE and NEW JACK CITY. In all those he's a real character, even in New Jack. The arrogance and Machiavellian guy he was comes off as well rounded in comparison to all the crappy action films he made or the characters he played in them. And Blade is all attitude and minimal character. You'd think he'd develop as the series went on, but Snipe started actually doing LESS.

Heh, Nino Brown. Used a kid as a human shield. Truly one of the most despicable characters in film. Snipes was awesome.

"Sit yo five dollar ass down fo I make change!"

No, I know. By using him as an example, I was trying to imply that you can make a character more interesting if you have to.

I always wonder why people attribute IM successes to IM and NOT RDJ.... I mean seriously.... really.... ?????

Why does it have to be either/or?

Regardless: you're missing the point, which was that a character doesn't need to be well known to become popular. That applies to characters of every race.

That sounds infantile.... and I'm not trying to be rude by saying that.

....what? I don't think you actually know what I'm saying. I'll rephrase. What makes you think there aren't any black characters that deserve their own movies when there are so many white characters who do? Out of all the black superheroes and villains that exist, I'm pretty darn sure we could find at least one to make a movie about.

Here's a question.... Do you think Blade was successful because of Snipes or because of Blade?

Both.

You've never heard of Black Panther?! Charl you're killing me here. He may not be A-list, but he's definitely one of the most recognizable B-list Avengers. He's on the same level of recognition as Moon Knight, or Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Since you're a DC fan that's like saying you've never heard of Black Canary or Captain Marvel.

But you're a black woman on a comic book movie website that hasn't heard of Black Panther. For shame.
