Well for me i always thought that was a great toy. It actually achieved in making the Batmobile function and look very much like what is shown in the film. That's something i looked for and enjoyed with my toys.

Same here. When I was a kid I had the Batman Returns Penguin figure. I never understood why they made him look "cartoonish" (that's what I thought back then) instead of making him look the way he did in the actual movie. It's safe to say that it wasn't my favorite action figure.

I liked some of the figures Kenner made but they were pretty lazy with both the Dark Knight Collection and Batman Returns. Most of the Batman figures and the first Joker figure were just altered Superpowers figures, and even back then I was a stickler for details. I noticed the musculature wasn't right and that the gloves looked a lot more plain than the ones on the movie suit. Plus, neither Joker figure had an accurate paint job. The first Joker had a burgundy jacket and pink pants, and the second was completely wrong, with a blue jacket and orange pants. And why did Batman have a gold logo and belt? It's clearly yellow in the movie. And they never changed the design of the Batman figure for the Batman Returns line, which was even more noticeable since the Returns suit doesn't have muscles, but instead a more obviously armored look. The 15 inch Batman kind of made up for it, since most of it's details were accurate (except for using gold instead of yellow again).

I actually like the Penguin figure that was released although it didn't match the movie at all. I have a feeling that to do with the somewhat gruesome look of Danny Devito's Penguin. Strangely enough.. I liked the Penguins too as silly as they seem. I still have a few of them, The winner of the most screen accurate figure in my opinion goes to Catwoman.

I was more into the BTAS toyline but I had some of the Batman Returns action figures. I remember only having one of those penguins. I didn't have that Catwoman however I had the figure from the Animated Series toyline. It's the same figure except they repainted the body and replaced the head.

Kenner was a VERY good toy company. But they were also VERY lazy! I used to collect their Star Wars toys in the mid 90's. ALL of the ships were exactly the same as the ones they used for the 1970's/early 80's Star Wars toylines. But their stuff was inexpensive. Nowadays these toy companies add too many details to the figures that the price for a typical action figure is about $8 or $9. Either way you get what you pay for.

Thats exactly the reason. I know times are very different nowadays, but at the time DeVito's Penguin was way too much for a young audience

You know... The Penguin fascinated me when I first saw the movie at 4 years of age. Didn't quite get everything that was going on, but the visuals really popped for me.

I would always stick the VHS in to 'watch' the movie even if I didn't get some of the more intense character interactions at the time. But yeah... The Penguin never really scared me.

I did however have nightmares about Edward Scissorhands on a few occasions.

That was the Super Powers Penguin to a tee just with a color job from blue & purple to black & red on the clothes. I never bought that cause I already had the original Penguin figure. I did have the Penguin Commandos (w/their classic package art) though and the Catwoman figure. That Bruce Wayne/Batman figure they had for BR was the only Batman figure I bough from that line.

I used to have a couple those PVC figures that Applause made too. Specifically these

I still don't know why Kenner could not go with a similar design to this

Laziness really does seem to be the only explanation unless there were some weird licensing issues or something.

I had that Penguin -with blast off umbrella launcher toy back in the day. Still got the die cast metal figures, and the board game.

I agree they were cool, but the Batman movie stuff wasn't their best work. I mean, there's a problem when most of the figures are identical except for the paint job, and consist of variants of the main character, plus one or two of the villains. I wish they would have done the non-costumed characters, but I guess they just aren't fun enough to make into toys.

The Star Wars toyline was exhaustive by comparison though. Was there a character or vehicle they missed? Did they make a Hoth Commando Cliff Clavin?

the reason Pengui was basically a recolored version of the Super Powers figure for the Returns line was that Danny Devito didn't wouldn't sign off on his likeness for an action figure...and for those of you that recall when the animated series figures were released you'll remember that the Penguin figure was pulled from the line for this same reason ( the animated series likeness was too close to the devito likeness)

^^ I never heard of that before. Kenner did the same thing with the Batman & Robin Bane action figure. I didn't collect any of the B&R figures but my step brother did.

I used to have "her."

I still do.

I collected a few of the Batman and Robin figures. I still own that Bane figure. In my estimation it's one of the best Bane figures ever produced.

Yeah, it's an awesome figure. My step brother collected the B&R toys but from time to time I played with them, even if I didn't like the movie. Those were quality figures. Mr. Freeze was my favorite.

Which Mr. Freeze did you have? I owned both of these. I think i liked the non movie version better to be honest, I thought he had cooler accessories and design. Though it was nice to see a Mr. Freeze figure that was very accurate to the movie as well.

One thing i had always wished was that a Mr. Freeze truck would have been made for this line of figures. I always found that lame and puzzling that it was never produced considering the amount of push this movie was giving towards the action figure line.

Wow, I never knew that they made a movie accurate My. Freeze. My step brother had the 2nd one. It looked more like the Animated Series Freeze that was wearing a suit similar to Arnold's. When I was a kid I mostly collected the Animated Series and Returns figures. But damn the B&R toys were the best Batman toys Kenner ever made.

I collected from Batman figures from to 89 to 99. So i have or have had a great deal of figures from all of the different lines.

I pretty much fell out of Batman toys after 1996 when I began collecting Star Wars. Then after that it was WWF action figures. When I was a kid this was by far my favorite Batman figure.

I collected Star Wars, WWF, Batman, Marvel. I have a bit of it all. I loved that figure for my Bruce Wayne but it's hard to pick a favorite Batman. Probably this one.

But speaking off topic but related to the Star Wars and WWF figures, these were two of my all time favorites.

I always wanted the standard, all black, Batman figure. Instead I had the BR Batman in a white suit (pic below). Damn I sure miss playing with Batman figures. :(

I had a ton of variations from the Returns line. Two of my favorites were these

The best Batman from TAS line and Forever line in my opinion were these two.

The Batman Forever toyline was amazing. Unfortunately I didn't have any of the BF toys. It looks like they're going to bring back the gimmick figures for TDKR toyline, which is pretty awesome.

This is all that I have left from my Batman collection. They look a little banged up. I took this picture a couple weeks ago, they like to party like rockstars. The big black/blue Monster for the Bat and the little red/yellow shot for the boy.

I had that Luke. His hand came off. My favorite was ROTJ Skywalker

And this is my favorite WWF figure. I always thought this Undertaker figure looked ****ing sick! The figure was ahead of it's time.
