Yeah it's a great transfer, which is odd. The blu ray transfers for 66, 89, Returns, Forever, and B&R was better than Nolan's Batman blu ray releases (minus the IMAX shots in TDK).

Funny but it's true. I think BB was great on bluray much better than TDK. I hope trilogy box set will do much better.

 Is there news of a box set...I haven't heard anything??? I'm hoping there is.

I wouldn't mind if they extended the "Anthology" to include the Nolan films...

As good as Anne Hathaway was as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer still owns the role.

Ditto...

Anna Hathaway did a great job...I was surprised, but Michelle will always be my Catwoman.

No but it's obvious though we need one.

I disagree. TDK, especially the IMAX scenes, scrub up much better on blu-ray than Begins.

Oh My God... I questioned Jett's bitter comments of Returns on BOF's facebook page.

He called it a POS that ruined Batman... Blah Blah blah... insulted Michelle Pfeiffer and called Burton a hack.

I had a freakin polite debate with him... and said the movie had a big fanbase and I preferred this Catwoman to Nolan's (IMO) ''diluted'' version of Catwoman. He said I was disgracing Anne and Nolan.

Deleted my comments and removed my ability to comment in general.

WOW.

This guy is a psycho. :o

lol No wonder I saw this posted on his FB page.

FYI: If you come here and post rude statements and generally act like a stereotypical fanboy-on-a-message board A-Hole, your "Like" of this page will be deleted. I couldn't care LESS if you agree or disagree with any BOF opinions, but I do care about fans acting in a respectful manner. If this pisses you off, then hit the "unlike" button ASAP, please. - Jett

If wasn't just my comments... it was others as well.

Somebody wrote, ''We are Batman Returns fans... hear us ROAR'' as a joke and a few people liked it.

He goes and deletes it.

He was the one being ignorant turning around saying to me, ''If you like this film then there is something wrong with you''. Then deletes that. :wow:

Dude seriously needs to get off Nolan's ****.

Especially since he's not making any more Batman films. lol

It's a strange thing recently with franchises of superhero films. Once a new one shows up some fans completely sh** on the previous franchise.

Just cements my view that the guy is a disgrace and hasn't changed at all.

I mean, really?

Yeah, Jett has long been little more than a nasty little child.

Yes IMAX scenes look great I give you that.

Returns on bluray looks much better especially opening scenes with the credits looks much better. "BATMAN RETURNS"

Yep. Anne Hathaway was a great version of Catwoman.

Michelle Pfeiffer is the only actor who was Catwoman for me.

I was really hoping Hathaway would equal Pfeiffer, but unfortunately not. I hope one day we'll see someone top the magnificent work of Michelle.

Hathaway mistook being *****y for being sexy and if you didn't know she supposed to be Catwoman, you could've mistaken her for any generic action chick clad in a skintight black outfit.

****, you're right.

I knew there was something that annoyed the **** out of me with her, and that was it.

She said more things that made me want to punch her in the mouth than kiss it. :o

This.

To an extent I agree, she was always disgruntled, but given the circumstances of the script I guess that works, it's just a little disappointing she couldn't show more range.

But what I did love about Hathaway was that her Catwoman was a grifter. I loved how quickly and seamlessly she would change roles and 'adapt' to the situation. It was great to see this side of Catwoman.

I don't think she have enough screentime to create something quite as comparable to Pfieffer. She's almost a prototype Catwoman...a 'Year One' version thrown into the final instalment.

For some reason when I think of Hathaway's perfomance in TDKR. I think of Huntress more than catwoman. I didn't think she gave a bad performance at all. She made the most of it with what she was given. Besides the story not having enough room for her character. I kind of felt Catwoman was out of place and unnecessary in this kind of batman story. I mean it's a little late introducing Catwoman in Batman's last adventure.

I agree. For some reason it's hard for me to critique Hathaway's portrayal b/c she didn't have enough screen time and was kind of out of place in this type of batman story, imo. Tbh, the film could've done without Catwoman. The movie's cluttered as it is. If they had made this movie into two parts. Maybe Catwoman's arc would've been well rounded as well as other elements in the film that needed to be.

Except ScarJo already played that exact same character and was both much more likable and much less of a *****.

I used to visit Batman on Film regularly - I don't think I ever posted on the forums, but I visited a lot, listened to the podcast - but I got sick of hearing that Batman Returns was "not Batman," let alone that it ruined the character and franchise. Jett's certainly not the only person who dislikes BR and feels that it's not their Batman or not Batman at all, but his insistence on it has always bothered me, and apparently it's escalated to ridiculousnes. The idea that that interpretation just isn't Batman is so obviously silly and incorrect that it's laughable; I can't even say Batman & Robin "isn't Batman." Saying it ruined the franchise or is in any way comparable to the damage Batman & Robin did is no more than revisionist history. Batman on film does not begin or end with Christopher Nolan.

It's a strange thing recently with franchises of superhero films. Once a new one shows up some fans completely sh** on the previous franchise.

I do not understand it at all. I love Nolan's Batman movies, I've compared them to Burton's (and Schumacher's) in plenty of ways, there are aspects for which I prefer Nolan's - but I never turned on Burton's. I haven't turned on Raimi's Spider-Man movies. I won't turn on Donner's Superman movie(s). And I don't get why there has to be a declaration of allegiance to one and therefore an all-consuming disgust for the other. Preferences are one thing, but we don't need to tear down Batman Returns to build up The Dark Knight Rises, for example. Although Jett never needed Nolan to tear down Batman Returns, did he? It's just been another weapon in the arsenal.

I think the performance was alright, though fairly sparing and certainly unworthy of all the Oscar nonsense. The problem was that the script seemed to take an almost perverse pleasure in depriving the audience of the recognition of her identity. Why, Mr Nolan, could we not hear her referred to as "Catwoman"? Would it have soiled the immaculate structure of your film if we ever saw her with a cat? Would you have blown your "Best Picture" chances if she whipped a couple of heavies rather than punching them?

I don't think us fanboys are really that demanding, but Nolan sometimes seemed to take pleasure in throwing a tarpaulin over the fun stuff.

Jett's is a buck-toothed, inbred moron. He has made Chris Nolan his lifestyle and his god, but Nolan neither knows nor cares.

Jett threw a tantrum when a much better rival site was launched at http://batman-news.com/ , and spat out his dummy among the hot tears.

He is talentless, charmless and irrelevant.

This movie, after 20 years, STILL puzzles me. I can't decide whether I like it or not.

I personally believe that stylistically, this is the best Batman movie to date. The imagery and atmosphere are absolutely gorgeous, there's no denying that. It's a beautiful film to look at. I mean, take a look at the screencaps that have already been posted in this thread ... Gorgeous!

I think the characters and the storyline are interesting, and the themes presented in the storyline are borderline genius. Catwoman and Penguin being warped representations of Batman himself? Interesting!

I think that Michelle Pfeiffer did an excellent job as Catwoman, and she was the beating heart of the film. I believe she did an iconic performance in the costume. Anne Hathaway is a better Selina Kyle, but Michelle Pfeiffer is a better Catwoman. "I am Catwoman, hear me roar!" Need I say more?

I also believe that Michael Keaton did a great job, as always. Keaton is one of the most criminally underrated actors ever, so it saddens me that people pretty much want to forget his performance as Batman after the Nolan movies. Danny DeVito also delivered a fine performance with what he was given.

Now, with all of the praises I'm giving this movie, I'll have to go to the negative right now: Is Batman Returns a good movie? I think it's a more than competent movie with stunning visuals. Is Batman Returns a good Batman movie? Umm ... I personally don't think it is, overall. There are a lot of things in this movie that just aren't a good representation of Batman and his world.

For instance, I think that Batman killing is a big no-no (yeah, whatever, I know he killed in the earlier comics, but that has since been dropped ... And dropped like a safe). Another problem is Penguin. I think the character for the MOVIE is interesting, but was he a good Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot? I don't think so. I also think that the whole supernatural thing with Catwoman's origin was bizarre and not fully explained. It's these problems that prevent me from loving the film.
