The Official Batman Returns Thread - Part 2

The official comic adaptation of BR cover looks amazing. I wonder why DC didn't make official comic adaptations of the Nolanverse films?

I was wondering that as well, they even made one for Mask of the Phantasm.

Er, I have the one for Batman Begins.

It's crappy.

They did make one for Batman Begins, it wasn't very good, kinda wish they did 4 issue adaptations like Dark Horse and IDW instead of 40 pages adaptations

Yeah, they even made a prequel, for Green Lantern they didn't do one, they simply rereleased Green Lantern: Secter Origin with the film's cover.

The movie was REALLY similar to Secret Origin.

Only not as good. :o

And worse, because you can't be as campy in live action as you can in comics. :o

I have the 89 and Returns adaptations. Does anyone have the Forever one, I heard there's some stuff in there that wasn't in the movie.

I recently bought the Forever one as well. I just haven't been able to look it through yet.

The Forever adaptation contains the original opening of Batman Forever when Dr. Burton discovers the aftermath of Two-Face escaping. Another scene sticking out in my mind is a small scene of Two-Face and The Riddler sitting around on his question mark couch juicing themselves with The Riddler's handheld brain tool and Two-Face saying "My god.. Jim Morrison was right" and The Riddler ask's "About what..?" to which Two-Face reply's "Everything.."

That's all i can remember from memory. I'd have to go back and look through my copy again, I know there are a couple of differences but it's pretty much a direct adaptation of the film.

BF was so much less than the sum of its parts. A shame, really.

Animated Batman's hips and thighs remind me of Rihanna's.

Not really, it reminded me much more of that Emerald Dawn, probably because the script was a rewrite of a script that was based on that comic, Secret Origin made Hal Jordan a likeable character that wants to do what he loves but isn't allowed to by his family, he had to fight for his dreams, in the movies he's a *****e that has people that like him and doesn't really care, and caused collegues to be fired.

Hammond was also scarier in the original comic, in the movie i liked him more than Hal Jordan, and Secret Origin was also darker too :o

And one of the best thing about Secret Origin was Hal Jordan and Sinestro's partnership, that didn't happen in the movie, at all, they were never friends there :o

I read Secret Origin a week after GL came out. They're ridiculously similar. :o

I read it one week before, they're really not that similar, the best parts of Secret Origin aren't there, only some few plot points.

The characterization was very similar as well.

Plus Geoff Johns oversaw the movie's production so, Y'know, it would make sense that it would be similar to his comic.

They also did the tdk adaptation that came with the bluray, but only covered the bank scene

Yeah they stopped the comic adaptations from 2007 onwards... I assume they weren't selling anymore.

And really, unless you get a great artist they are a little redundant.

Well, back in the day comic book adaptations were the best way to "own" a movie, when home video didn't exist or was really expensive and the movies came out years after their theatrical release.

These days people just download them from the internet and watch them anytime. So comic book adaptions are kinda dead, sales too low, they usually make prequels, nowadays.

Yeah I own the B:MOTP comic adaptation . The artwork wasn't that good though. Looks like it was rushed.

:wow: Mike Parobeck rushed?

While I concede it's not his best work, Mike Parobeck was one of the best Batman Animated artists ever. His work on Batman Aventures was stunning.

LOVE his work. Especially the last issues of the first Adventures volume. He died so young...such a shame.

Agreed. But I still like them nonetheless.

Like novelisations, they are out-of-date in a world that delivers home video releases a mere three months after cinemas.

As a kid I loved them (and novelisations) because I got to relive the movie in a different way. I was never able to see the same movie at the cinemas again.

I quite like the Begins adaptation thanks to Kilian Plunkett's artwork (a great artist), but it is far too condensed overall.

The old-school part of me would really love to see adaptations of the other Nolan films, though I know it's fairly redundant.

Wouldn't it be great if DC started a movie spin-off series, where we could see the Nolanverse and Burtonverse continued in comic form. I think it would sell fairly well...

Sorry didn't mean any disrespect, but I'm not familiar with him or his work. I only own a few Batman Adventures comics. And I'm sorry to hear he's passed away. May he rest R.I.P.

Really? What adaptations were you reading for comic book movies that came out prior to home video existing? And what comic book movies came out on VHS years after their theater release? Maybe Superman The Movie...
