Good fight, but I don't agree with the scoring. They judged wrestling over effective punching.

Tremendous fight, personally I lean a little closer to a draw. I thought Andre definitely won 5 of the last 6, and maybe all 6.

I think he won 4 of the last 6 at the most (10 and I believe 7 were Sergei's), and Sergei won the first 4 pretty easily, with a KD. I don't know how you give Ward 7 rounds though. Because that is what they gave him.

They landed almost the same amount of shots, body shots are power punches too, and Kovalev got hit with a lot of them.

I gave it a draw but I can honestly understand why it was given to Ward. I think Sergei started strong but after round 4, he started to just survive. The fight could have gone either way but I am hoping that it's a trilogy. When was the last time boxing had that!

Yes, but until the 9th, the power was clearly with Kovalev, who was doing clearly more damage. And he put Ward down. When landing the same amount of punches, the guy hitting harder is doing better.

Right, I think it was a draw. Either way they both showed heart and courage, true champions. Definitely need that rematch.

Didn't you have Ward winning easily?

I just thought the inside work added up. The harder shots in the second half I edged to Ward. I thought he started connecting with the hook and jab too, even if Kovalev still landed.

I definitely think Ward won the second half. Not all the rounds, but definitely most. I remember thinking Ward definitely won the 5th as well.

Man, I really need to start keeping a scorecard for fights again.

I do remember that there were A LOT of rounds I think could have been scored either way. When that happens, you never know what the cards are going to say; I'm surprised the scores were all the same. I wonder what the differences in rounds judged were.

Watch the fight again. Sergei started off strong but after round 3, he tailed off big time. Ward started to box him. Lederman started to exaggerate and give him rounds that could have gone either way...............but more towards Sergei. I still say I had it a draw but can clearly understand why Ward won.

I have absolutely no problem with Ward getting the decision. Lederman's card was an extreme in which he gave Kovalev every benefit of the doubt.

After the rough start Ward stayed on the outside to weather the storm a bit, then he gradually started working his way to the inside against Kovalev. Andre didn't clearly win any rounds until at least about round 5. Just because his defense began tightening up doesn't mean Sergey didn't still do good work.

I think it comes down to rds 4 and 5. IMO, Ward definitely stole one of those rounds, and I had him winning 7-12.

Yep! I tell people all the time to watch fights with the volume down, especially with bias HBO with Lampley. All 3 judges have it for Ward meaning they saw something but people wil make excuses. Fair decision.

Those two rounds were definitely the turning point. I remember round 4 being close, and thinking Ward got the 5th.

To be fair, I thought the bias was very noticeable on both sides. It was Lampley and Lederman for Kovalev vs Kellerman and Roy for Ward.

Whether or not you give the actual decision to Ward, I think he deserves a ton of credit for being able to dig himself out of that early hole and fight his way to a close decision either way. During the 3rd round, when Andre was still on shaky legs, I thought it was over. A lot of heart, discipline, and confidence to get the momentum going in his favor.

I thought Ward won by 2 rounds but they were close. Ward started to control the fight by the mid rounds.

I gotta give it up to Kovalev as well, he's way sharper than I gave him credit for. He also showed heart too, because once the tide started to turn, I really thought Andre might stop him. He was taking some good body shots but kept his composure, I expected him to get wild looking for one big punch. They were both very disciplined through adversity.

I will say though, in rematch, I think Ward beats him convincingly, assuming he can avoid that fire. Kovalev almost drown in that deep water, more pressure and a smarter approach to getting inside would make it a Ward style fight for a longer period of time, and it's tough to beat him at that game...

I agree. Kovalev showed me that he could box. I honestly didn't think he could. It was clear after Ward felt his jab in the first round that he was hesitant to feel it again. I think some of it was nerves from Ward. But people online are killing me by saying this was a robbery. It was not! The fight could have gone either way. It was a razor thin edged fight. For some to say it was fixed is BS to me.

Me too, and anybody else who got sense and boxing knowledge. People are putting too much stock into the knockdown and not enough into the body work. Just because he wasn't lumped up doesn't mean he wasn't hurt, he felt that fight just as much as Andre.

It's Lomachenko vs Walters this weekend. Should be another cracker of a fight. Fancy Lomo by UD.

As much as I think Walters is going to knock Loma out this weekend, I get the feeling that Loma is going to outbox him. Couldn't tell you why. My head is going Walters but my heart is saying Loma is going to pull this out.
