The Official Casting The Superman Reboot Thread - Part 1

Costner has a way of tainting any film he's in. I'd rather we have someone else as Pa.

I'm not a huge fan of his. He's come off so pretentious (and I don't think he's even that good of an actor). I mean, I get the news but I'm not thrilled to hear it.

Costner could be pretentious but I doubt it. He feels like one of those active actors. He campaigned for Barrack and according to Deadline he aided in that oil spill clean up. However to say that he is not a good actor is wrong. His body of work is solid. Anyways I'd be happy to see him as either Jor-el or Jonathan Kent. Finally some star power.

I think that was one of the problems with Superman Returns, it was Spacey, Bosworth, and pray for rain. I understand that Langella is a good actor and what not, but compare it to the cast from Batman Begins and/or Dark Knight. It's apples and oranges.

I don't get a Jor-el vibe from Costner or Perry, and definitely not Lex. I really feel he's gonna be Pa Kent, IMO

Yeah, he's got the folksy accent. I'm betting on him being Pa Kent.

Costner is one of those actors it's just cool to poke fun at because of some of their choices in the past, but he's got a pretty solid body of work overall in his career. If he gets cast as John Kent, that would work for me. You could see him giving Cavill a pep talk or just treating his superpowered feats as a dad would his son hitting a home run at little league or whatever.

That is really not true. He has done a lot of films and some are real duds but some are classics. And I mean classics. He still has a strong following with the older females as well as males. You couldn't get much more perfect than Costner if you want to hit that demographic with a male actor. Clint Eastwood imo remains the number 1 draw for older males though.

I really think he is perfect for Jonathan as well. I'd be very happy with this casting.

just cast Annette Bening(who is from Kansas) as Martha Kent and we are good

That would be a good pairing....they worked together well in OPEN RANGE.

I'm down for Costner as Pa Kent, he has that wise fatherly quality to him now.

I guess I'd give him a chance, but I'm not a fan.

And what classics are you talking about besides "Dances With Wolves"?

Waterworld!?

The Postman!?

Wyatt Earp!?

Never seen JFK or 13 Days.

you're clearly missing something here :wow::wow::woot::woot:

I haven't seen all of Costner's movies but from what I've seen, Garisson in JFK is one of his best work to date !!!
