The Official Choose A Director Thread

The best thing Abrams did wioth Star Trek was making it popular and highly profitable. Congratz. Other than that his ST movie was an average awful collection of bad pointless jokes and romances that are reduced to a sudden kiss.

Are we really talking about JJ Abrams again?

He isn't going to do it, so just drop it fellas.

Raimi is not going to do it so it's stupid to even get mad or excited about the idea.

Gosh the Raimi haters sure come out to play when his name is brought up.

The funny thing is, if Raimi did do it, it would probably be more successful money wise than what Singer did. Despite my love of the first two Spidey movies I wouldn't want him because he loved Superman Returns and he's more in love with Donner than Singer is.

His Spider-Man movies are basically a vastly better version of Donner's Superman flicks anyway...atleast the first two are.

And yes haters... I know that is my opinion.

If you're insinuating I'm a Raimi hater because of my above comments, then I think you may be jumping the gun a bit. I love Raimi's movies. I think his Spider-man movies are very good movies, and I was one of the few people who defended SM3 (it wasn't nearly as bad as people said it was, it wasn't good, but calling it one of the worst superhereo movies ever is horrible.)

Now, while I think SM1 and SM2 are very good movies (SM2 is a very, very good movie) I just don't think they're the best Spider-man movies. There are fundamental things about the main characters that Raimi failes to grasp that I disagree with. However, that doesn't stop them from still being great movies.

And with Superman, I basically said the same thing you did above. I think Raimi would make a Superman movie even more of a tribute to Donner's movies than Singer did.

But there's no proof of Raimi, in theory, making a Superman movie even more of a tribute to Donner's movies.

Yea jj is likely not ever going to be an option just like a jackson, cameron, spielberg either. Its interesting ideals to think about if any of those guys did do a superman film what they could bring to the table with the character and all that. But since we know its going to be a tightly controlled project this go around if it happens it will end up with someone who can be controlled better and wont mind doing things with more studio say. Hopefully all aspects of the film can be worked out and their wont be any problems from director/writers and the studio once it gets to that stage.

No there's not, but I'm just going off past experience. Raimi put some pretty obvious homages to Donner's films in his Spider-man movies, so I would be wary of him getting his own Superman film and not doing more of the same.

You know what? I'm going to thank you for articulating your postion to me. I now understand where you are coming from and apologize for the attitude.

I don't entirely agree with you because despite the changes the first two movies worked for me more than you. Down the line I look forward to another bigscreen version of the Spider-Man universe. It's always fun to see how different people work with the same characters. But I do see where you are coming from. For instance I don't care for alot of the stuff Nolan has done with the Batman franchise but I still think that the movies are good. The first one is good and the second one is great IMHO.

My thoughts exactly.

Probably so but hopefully now wb sees making a film as much as a homage to the past take isnt the best way to place the character to modern fans. I myself have no issues of a cameo of a past superman actor in a film, or making a joke or doing a scene simular to donner's film. I just dont want to see the film be one giant homage.

Exactly. Homages are fine to me but not when they overwhelm what the new director is doing with the franchise.

Exactly. I don't mind little things, but I want to see a new style of Superman film. SR felt like it was trying too hard to be in the same style of the Donner films, when it should have just been it's own beast.

I know i still to this day wished SR was a full on reboot for superman like BB did with batman. I find it funny now they were able to reboot batman to sucess but they thought to bring superman into the 21st century the best thing was to copy the 70s and through a kid into the mix????

I'm still completely befuddled as to how someone signed off on a kid in the first movie of a presumed franchise. Didn't anyone realize what a corner they put themselves in? They'd be stuck either making the kid a sidekick or killing him off, and neither are good choices. :o

I know that did put any sequels in a tough spot to what to do with the character.

Guys we aren't ever going to figure it out so I think that we should just...try to let it go.

lol It won't be easy but we should try...

You do have a point we cant change what SR was now and for the fans who didnt like it we can just hope what ever they do next ends up being a better go around.

Raimi's plot for Spiderman 1 and 2 completely mirrored Superman I and II. Then we have the Up up and away and Superman's classic shirt rip.

No, he might not have done a movie that's even more a tribute, but he did pretty much a tribute to Donner's movies with his Spider-movies.

That said I don't want this guy's humour over a Superman movie.

i just hate rami's use of constantly making his actors dance on screen. Or do something completely unlike their characters. When has spiderman ever danced around a club, or walked down a street pointing at hot chicks and then doing a disco dance.

And when has he done that as a consequence of wearing the black suit? Is dancing and asking his neighbour for milk and cookies supposed to represent his dark side? Now he has feelings of revenge, rage, he KILLS, dances and eat cookies and milk!

hahaha a complete wtf moment! i kept thinking how cool it was gonna be to see a pissed off spidey really taking it to criminals cuz of the suit....and instead he dances around like its 1978 again.

anyways....who should direct the movie?

:woot:

Maybe so but at least he still followed the comics for the most part. If he did Superman we would see stories from the comics and villains like Brainiac and Doomsday.

And have Clark Kent dancing on the streets. Comic-follower doesn't mean he's the right person.

I THINK you're too caught up with that 'dancing', El Payaso. I know that Raimi screwed with that film, along with the studio micro-management, but you can't condemn the man as a filmmaker for that one bad movie.

Yeah, I guess it's easier to point put the bad film. But it's not like I loved the first one either.

I would loath to watch Superman trying to fly for the first time saying "It's clobbering time!" or "Odin!" and then hitting himself against a wall for the sake of some pointless wink-wink Raimi-humour.
