The Official Choose A Director Thread

Well hey, at least he would be HITTING something.:hoboj:

And when has he done that as a consequence of wearing the black suit? Is dancing and asking his neighbour for milk and cookies supposed to represent his dark side? Now he has feelings of revenge, rage, he KILLS, dances and eat cookies and milk!

That was definitely weird. I was prepared for the dancing scenes (though I wasn't aware of just how terrible they were) but the whole milk-and-cookies scene really came out of left field.

Heh. I guess the actual Peter's "dark side" there was how he would pretend to fall asleep at the phone. Implying that Connors is boring is ungodly! :hehe:

hehehehe. :joker: True. I have seen many franchises being glad to hit the many times profitable wall of mediocrity.

Looks like even more problems for a superman movie. WB seriously needs to clean house and just fire all of these idiots

SyFy Wire:Superman: Man of Steel producers legal feud

The legal issues between Brian Quintana and Jon Peters, the two producers on the new Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures reboot Superman: Man of Steel were pretty turbulent this past December. At the time, The Hollywood Reporter's legal blog reported on Quintana suing Peters over money owed him as well as over alleged sexual harassment and "outrageous demands of his services.... [including] perjury, the forgery of signatures, the procurement of illegal drugs, tax and other accounting fraud, and the assistance and cover-up of some extreme sexual behavior."

Also among the demands reportedly placed on Quintana by Peters was a "request to help cover up the statutory rape of Peters' daughter."

The New York Post now reports that Peters has been ordered to stay 100 yards away from Quintana after he told Quintana, "I am going to cross this table and beat the ****ing **** out of you. I am going to kick your ass," at a deposition taking place at a Los Angeles law office on Aug. 12 pertaining to the sexual harassment lawsuit Quintana filed against Peters.

Quintana filed a police report on Aug. 14 that states, "Mr. Peters threatened to break my legs. I am afraid, nervous and anxious that Jon Peters is going to hurt or kill me." On Aug. 19, Quintana was granted a restraining order that would keep Peters from "threatening, assaulting or harassing him."

Peters' lawyer Joe Yanny claims the restraining order is unfounded and that Peters' losing his temper was due to Quintana throwing kisses at Peters during the deposition.

A hearing is set for Sept. 9 to determine how long the order will remain in effect

i thought peters had no real control/stake in superman now, i know he did in the 90s and pretty much thought his producer cred for SR was just a title with no power?

There isn't a facepalm in the world big enough to express how I feel about that story.

I'd heard of the Quintana sexual harassment suit but what's this business about the statutory rape of Peters' daughter? What kind of operation is WB running over there?

Those guys are leftovers from WB during the 90s. I'm sure they don't lack any pull over there anymore. Infact, they should just get rid of them.

That is what i thought so too. As i said in my above post. Plus with if the project is a reboot and we know they are/hopefully are looking at other directors/producers they would want to have all new eyes on the project that is my guess.

I have a theory why WB is so quiet on their projects:

I think they were waiting for their BO share for the Summer market share. And since they're the top dog (again) this Summer, I think they're going through their budget and projects.

So that's why at hitfix.com, they stated that Green Lantern finally got the greenlight and a huge budget*. that's why now Lobo is getting fasttracked. That's why now there's rumors of Akira having new writers for a 2011 release.

All of this is happening at the same time, so I'm expecting WB to really let loose on their projects in a few weeks. I'm thinking that WB WILL be announcing MORE PROJECTS in regards to one of the DC movies. Be it Superman, or whatever.

Just a theory.

* Green Lantern, despite having a crew, director, and a lead already, never got a final budget nor the official go. Not until now, according to Drew at Hitfix.com. Once it gets greenlit, then the ball gets rolling. Same thing with The Hobbit: Peter Jackson said recently at Comic Con that the project doesn't have a real budget because it didn't get greenlit yet, despite production starting next year.

^I think why it has been so quiet with Superman is that nothing is going on with it now, despite IESB's claim that a movie is being fast tracked. We have at least heard that a writer is attached to Flash and Shazam! and have heard other reports concerning other DC properties(Lobo, Deadman, etc..) I think the simplest explanation is the right explanation in the case of Superman. We hear nothing because nothing is happening. I'm sure WB is listening to ideas for the next Superman film but nothing has probably clicked yet or they are waiting to resolve the various court issues before moving full steam ahead.

To be fair to Rob and his crew, they single-handedly called the Fantastic Four reboot happening six months (!?!) before the trades "announced" it.

^True, and he was very confident in the information. I'm not necessarily trying to dispute him, I have no clue what is going on and I hope I am wrong when I say that I think nothing is happening. It's just that if a movie is being fast tracked, wouldn't that mean that at the very least there is a writer currently attached? And if a writer is attached, why would WB keep that a secret? They have announced writers on their projects all the time, like I mentioned previously, Flash, Shazam! and now Akira. I don't see why if a writer was officially attached and they were fast tracking a film, why we would not know who that writer is. You would think WB would want to announce that bit of news to excite the fanbase. Which is why I think nothing is really happening at the moment, but I hope I am wrong.

Then again, we never did get official word on what Wolfman and Morrison were working on did we? And if IIRC, THR did mention they(either separately or together) were working on something but that it could not be made public yet. Hmmm...

When the IESB report came out and said it was being fast tracked I take from it that they are actually interested in doing a superman film again as opposed to not doing one at all. From the court case they have until 2011 to be in production. Looking at the time line now I could see them spending the rest of this year and most of 2010 working out a script, with filming beginning in 2011 for a 2012 release.

speaking of court cases, it seems like The Hobbit can go forward now, since WB and the Tolken family settled.

I'm sure that Superman will do the same and come to an agreement, even past 2013, when the family gets back the rights of Supes.

^I never worried about WB losing Superman. A settlement will be reached. It's in all the parties involved best interest to reach one.

Hopefully they can get the darn superman lawsuit settled and things stay the way they are so their isnt any issues with the comics or doing future cartoons/live action movies, or any future tv shows with the characters down the road. As for no word on superman either that means nothing is really happening at this moment and they are still trying to find a writer/director to do what the studio wants. Or maybe they have someone and they want to get a first draft in place first, then get a director attached. Then make it public news so then when that happens they can already be working on getting more crew members in place and the writers then could be working on next draft of the script, and then they can get into the nitty gritty business of prep work, and get into the casting stage which we all know is likely to be the most time consuming thing. Look it took them over 5 months to get hal jordan cast for gl and we know superman/clark is the tough one to cast. But who knows the best guy could come walking in during first runs of testing. and all that and casting could be done faster or it could be a slow process.

EXCLUSIVE: J.J. Abrams Says Returning To Superman 'Would Be A Blast'

Posted 45 minutes ago by Caleb Goellner in DC Comics, News

The last time J.J. Abrams had the Man of Steel on his mind, things didn't exactly work out as planned, but given his resilient career in television and film since 2002, the creator is in a better position than ever to make a hypothetical return to the property. However, despite the support of high-profile fans such as filmmaker Kevin Smith and many in the fan community, at this point, nothing is officially moving forward with Abrams' version of Superman.

"No one has talked to me about it," Abrams told MTV News. "Obviously I’m sure Warner Brothers has a plan for what they want to do."

"Writing that script was a long process," he explained. "It was a very passionate character for me. As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don’t know what Warners is thinking or what their plan is. It would be a blast."

Though the "Lost" co-creator and "Star Trek" director's first crack at scripting the Last Son of Krypton received mixed reviews from fans, it still has its supporters in Hollywood. Brendan Fraser, who actually suited up for a screen test for what would have been a Brett Ratner-directed film, has only praised what would have been. Abrams himself explained that while that particular draft didn't see the light of day, there's still a version of the script he'd enjoy he could envision being produced.

"That version of the movie—the one that was reviewed and vilified—was actually not the latest draft we had at the time and we worked on it well after that. I do think there’s a version of that movie that could be really fun to see," said Abrams. "You never really know. Everything happens for a reason."

In other breaking news, I'd like to date Kat Dennings. Non-news. Abrams' time with Superman came and went.

well isnt that something. Now if he was given the chance to do superman again he knows what he did in the past wasnt favored by fans. So he could probably change his past ideals to form some thing much different that that non liked script of his and all that. I wouldnt mind if he did have the chance again to see what he would do now.

It amazes me the "exclusive" articles that MTV puts up to try to drive traffic.

See, I would normally say "If they did their homework, they'd know that Abrams is set up exclusively with Paramount film-wise." But they're hacks. So they'd run with that anyway.

I would like to see what Peter Jackson might do with Superman.

He seems to get the concept of Epic very nicely.

But many times "epic" for him is endless slow camera shots with some slow music playing along. At first it worked, in King Kong it was just redundant and annoying.

Not a fan of epic-Jackson, far too long-winded. cult-Jackson will always be my favorite
