The Official Choose A Director Thread

Yea boyle is a good director but i dont think a comic book action/scifi film is his type of work. I rather take someone who knows action/scifi well so we can get a rounded out director on board. Who gets how to handle a big character like superman, how to work in comic book elements, and then understand scifi/action parts which is needed.

Neil Blomkamp is my current choice. We should get him before he becomes a huge deal.

An origin Superman film directed by Neil Blomkamp and written by Blomkamp, Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Jeph Loeb. A fanboy can dream.

My hope and prayer is that with the new DC Entertainment, it clicks with the studio that if there going to give a Geoff Johns a shot at writing a movie, give the two best things you had going for the last two decades a crack at Superman, those men being Timm and Dini.

well we know johns is currently attached to both flash/shazam projects for the time being. Then we still dont know for sure what the other two guys are doing. But i said it before if superman case could get settled out any time soon. It would be great if they did have any of the 3 guys come in at least do a treatment script for superman. See how the studio likes it. If they do then pass it along to some good screeen writer like a david koepp, and a few others i am blanking on their names. But still work with the dc guys to make sure the correct comic details stay in the film.

who is directing persia? Is it jerry or is he just producing it.

^Thats funny because I think I asked earlier who directed the potter movies (I know there have been a few directors) because I could definately see WB going for one of them.

ah ok i liked that one, i dont know any of his other work. But that potter film was good. And persia looks good. I could see him being a potential choice.

So, does the next movie need to be FILMING by 2011 or does it just need to be "in production" (to whatever degree that may be) by 2011?

though with the state of things with the whole legal stuff, to me it doesnt look like WB will make any leerway on getting anything going. One thing i been wondering were we ever given a date for 2011 production has to be happening or not. Cause if they have the whole year of 2011 to get something going. Maybe it could be possible to get something moving. If some of the legal stuff got set in some fashion.

I have pretty much given up myself. No rumors or anything else has came out.
If, and thats a mighty big if, it were to start production by 2011, you would think at least something would have leaked out by now.
Thats the way it has always worked. stuff leaks. Some guy working on a project tells a friend, said friend cant keep his/her mouth shut, and it leaks it out.

When, and if, we start getting rumors, i'll take notice.

Yea i know with the way things are right now from what we know with DCE and the ongoing legal battles. It doesnt look like WB will be able to get anything moving in production status by what ever the 2011 deadline is. Though on a side note if they dont doesnt it mean WB can loose the film rights to superman to the siegels? I know they probably dont want that to happen. But i wouldnt want to see a film rushed into production just to keep the rights and not have things we fans want in the film and all that.

I think Spielberg would make a great Superman movie.

Very profitable, sure. But I'm not sure if actually good. Spielberg usually makes two kinds of movies; the one where he reduces everything to Hollywood-standards so everyone can follow the plot and the characters - which are usually his blockbustrers - and the ones where he really makes a serious good thing - which are his rarest movies. Jurassic Park is one of his biggest blockbusters but for me it is nothing but a bunch of cliches, one-dimentional characters and, what Spielberg simply loves, ******ed children. I think he'd make Superman another classic blockbuster of his.

Smallville just announced that they're doing a two hour movie event for the justice society episode planned. That's an interesting decision in regards to doing it for these 2 episodes instead of say the season finale. What does this have to do with superman... well not much really but Geoff Johns is writing the episodes. They obviously have a lot of faith in Geoff Johns and I can't help but wonder if he will be involved in some capacity on a superman film project especially if this does well.

Yea cool news for us smallville fans that the CW is going to air the two jsa episodes together in a "TV movie" format deal. Cant wait to see how the episodes turn out. I do agree with the dc comics writers who are helping along to get some of the more recent moving dc projects. They totally need to get any of them on board for superman. When it does get into on the plate status again. At least doing a treatment for the film, and then working hand in hand with who ever ends up being the script writer and all that. It would probably vastly help the script out.

What justice society? is that anything like the Justice League?

Welling fans ought to be happy. Tom's finally playing Superman in a movie.

I've come to the superman part of the forum late so i cant read 184 pages of this thread, but i'll try to read the last few in order to take part in the conversation. In the meantime, here's my thoughts on the poll above.

From the possible choices above i chose Favreau. He is no Spielberg but he is a comic nerd and that matters a lot. I know he'd make a great film whereas i dont know how Spielberg would do with a comicbook franchise.

But most of all, i think i'd like JJ Abrams.
