Comics The Official GAMBIT Discussion thread - Part 1

Seems like they're going back to the supernatural theme that some of his previous solo series had.

Who's the chick?

Presumably one of the new female characters that the writers have mentioned they're going to be introducing in interviews. I guess we can call them "Gambit Girls?"

Clay Mann always does a great Gambit, hope he sticks with the book for a while...

And that's to say, I hope the book is good enough in general to last for a while

It would be nice to see a series go more than 24 issues. :(

I hope this new book lives up to Asmus' descriptions. He makes it sounds so awesome!

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like Gambit's suddenly getting a new series has something to do with Thief of Thieves becoming such a success? I almost feel like that comic might have made Marvel realize how stupid they were being wasting Gambit the way they were. But I accept that I could be wrong.

EDIT - On second thought, Marvel must have commissioned this series a while ago for it to be coming out now, right? At any rate, I'm hoping that series might make them put a little more effort into Gambit's. Especially since Asmus is apparently writing ToT's second arc.

Thief of Thieves? Did I miss something?

I've never read it myself, but it's supposed to be about some master thief who starts stealing from other thieves to atone for it. It seems like a heist comic... which is exactly what many Gambit fans have been asking for for years and years.

Ah, I see. I thought I might have missed some Gambity goodness. That would have been a crime! :p

Oh no, Squeek. Nothing like that, unfortunately. We'll have to wait another month for more Gambity goodness.

Imo i think it was a last minute decision.

Gambit isn't getting any sort of build up in any books, compare that to Ms Marvel and Hawkeye who are in a bunch of books, even Ms Marvel has more of a role in Legacy then Gambit.

^True. But they always do that, unfortunately. Whenever an X-man other than Wolverine gets a solo, there is almost no promotion or hype involved. And then smug Wolverine fans will be like "[X] is no Wolverine." Yeah well, they could be if they were given a fair shake.

Especially Gambit. The guy is one of the few X-men that I can think of who has a genuinely interesting life outside of the X-men. He is a high-end professional thief, for crying out loud. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why he shouldn't be able to carry a title.

I dunno, X-23 had a couple of minis leading up to her series, was appearing in X-Force and had a decent role in the Second Coming event. Same goes for Cable's which was the outcome of an event.

But talking about Gambit, so far during AVX he has been getting his ass kicked, and seems to be pretty much expendable. Plus he hasn't really had much of a role in Legacy or Astonishing recently, which is why i think that it's last minute.

But yeah i think Marvel know that out off all the X-Men outside of Wolverine, Gambit is one of the few that has the best shot/fanbase to have a decent solo, but it's dissapointing to see not much promotion outside a couple of ads.

Hopefully the book will be good enough to sell itself. :)

^In todays comic market i'd say that's pretty hard to do so without some kind of push, which is why they usually are pushed in some way or another.

Hi! I'm praying for Rogue to show up in this. Is this supossed to happen at the same time as that craziness where Rogue is with Magneto? Sorry, I hate myself for not following the comics like I should. Hi Squeeks!!!

I hope Rogue shows up for him to tell her to buzz off

Hey! Where have you been, Romyfan??

And Asmus already said that Rogue would be in it down the line. I don't necessarily think that they will be together though.

:oldrazz: Me too. As much as I love the idea of Rogue and Gambit, I think they need to be apart for a (long) while.

Man... I want to get excited about this because I love Gambit, but there is just nothing in these solicits that make me WANT to pick up this book. In a day when I'm looking for titles to drop and am being strict on what I pick up, I want more than just liking the character.

I'll get the first issue or two but it might not last long if it doesn't grab my interest immediately.

Hi! I've been... not really sure where, but I'm glad to be back :yay: I don't think they should ever be apart!!!!! (Hey I'm RomyFan after all, aren't I? :woot:) But I'll be happy with which ever way they squeez Rogue in Gambit's series. Even if they're not together.
