Comics The Official GAMBIT Discussion thread - Part 1

It's weird that Gambit is now in loads of X books in fairly major roles.

X-men Legacy
New Mutants
X-23
Daken
Adjectivless X-men

:wow:

Weird? How about nice! :D

I'm glad to hear Gambit is getting all this attention. Not only in the comics, but also in video games.

Which videogame are you talking about?

X-Men: Destiny

ugggh, that game looks like such a piece of **** tho

I dont want to have to play it for gambit to show up as a useless NPC for one level

or worse yet, to have to fight him

I don't care if it looks like crap! Our boy is in it! That makes it pretty damn sweet to me! :D

See, I knew the Disney takeover would be good for Gambit. Disney execs know a good thing when they see it!

It seems like a lot of X-Men will just be NPC's though, since the story seems to be about the player character alone.

Still, exposure is exposure. Get Gambit out there for some of the more "casual" fans who may not follow sub-series like X-23 and Daken.

Just....the awful tribal tattoos...god, the tribal...it burns my eyes

So the Gambster is just an NPC? That's a letdown. I really wanna see him in a movie again. I was hoping he might appear in First Class considering he met Charles at the end of Wolverine. Oh well, we'll always have the casino scene. Everything after that bit where he blows Wolverine trough the wall is not Gambit.

Meh we're pry not missing much with First Class. I think it looks (and sounds) pretty terrible itself.

That said, FOX wants it to be a reboot and a new trilogy (before they inevitably reboot it again), so there's always a chance Gambit comes back around.

It's really not hard to see why Marvel regrets selling the film rights of their characters to other studios, though...

He's always been a prominent character in X- Men- related video games, from the original Sega Genesis X- Men series in the 90s, through the X- Men Legends series and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. Combine a cool and popular character with powers that can easily be incorporated into game mechanics, and presto! You've got a character guaranteed to at least make an appearance in pretty much every X- Men game, almost always as a PC!

So i just watched that Aces & Eights episode from Wolverine and the X-men again. Classic Gambit! Seriously, that's how he should have been portrayed in Origins. His personality is spot on. Those writers really get his character.

It was a pretty cool ep, and I was thoroughly impressed that the series never even hinted at the Gambit/Rogue pairing during his two appearances. Both of his episodes were very much about Gambit, and let the character stretch his legs and do things that he hasn't done in the comics since the mid-90s...

Aces and Eights was definitely one of my favorite episodes in that series, although he took out Kurt:(

I thought his characterization was pretty good, an improvement from the earlier episode (Thieves' Gambit?). The only problem was that he seemed a bit too greedy. I never thought that money was such a motivating factor for him from reading the comics. And I have trouble imagining him doing something that would possible kill innocent people on purpose-in the comics, he turned on the Marauders as soon as he saw them killing Morlocks. I guess if his connection to Sinister was made clear in the series, I would buy into it more.

But otherwise it was 100% pure Remy-I loved how he "seduced" Polaris! And the fight scene with Senyaka (sp?) and Mellencamp was one of the best in the series, and they were very creative in the use of his powers (he charged water!!!!!). He really kicked butt in WATXM! And all the sarky comments and the usual Gambit arrogance ("If I had wanted to steal your helmet, you would have simply woken up without it.") It's a shame we aren't getting a season 2. In an interview, one thing that was mention by either Greg Johnson or Joshua Fine was that they couldn't explore Gambit's transformation from villain to hero. That would have been a great mini-story arc! Oh well....

In other news, I heard Gambit had a good showing in the Daken issue this week.

^^ He did. I gotta make some scans for us, but I'm super busy right now. :( Maybe later today.

Here we go. I just love how when Daken speaks, it's all suggestive without him outright flirting. He always means more than what he actually says. I like how their hands almost touch in the first page, it's so creepy. :p

JUST. TOO. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!:woot:

I haven't put the comic away yet. I just keep rereading the Gambit bits. Love the new artist too, he made Gambit look amazing!

Gambit needs to have that accent and be seen doing his thing with the ladies

Hmmmm, well, it depends what he means by "darker", but I would love him back as Gambit, as long as they do his eyes properly. And include some Theives Guild stuff.

IDK, I always thought the Guilds were a little archaic to bring into the X-Men movie-verse. Plus I'd much rather see Gambit with the X-Men than running around with the Thieves Guild.

I think a darker Gambit includes smoking, womanizing, gambling, stealing, scheming and some ruthlesness. Gambit in origins was very mild and way too friendly towards Wolverine.
