I read both of those and some others. The consensuses among the reviewers (and the only solid consensuses) is that the show does show its potential, and Bullock's great character. There's one review afraid of it being crowded, and another that asserts the usual idea that a good guy like Gordon is boring. But overall, they seem to feel the show is good and can get great.
And if the show is crowded? I don't care: my favorite Pirates of the Caribbean movie is the third one. I love juggling dozens of plot-threads, provided they have interesting resolutions.
