Gotham The Official Gotham News and discussion thread - Part 2

I'm confused, Hunter. The "leave the thread" and "stop watch the show" comments you initially warned about have come and gone, so what's the problem?

The problem is that this is not going anywhere good, look at Mikelus first response AFTER I stepped in, and then you respond with a mocking gif, that's not a discussion, I am all for discussion, that is just going nowhere that leads anywhere positive or constructive for anyone.

Some may not like it but my role as a mod means at times I need to shut down certain avenues that I can see are going to wind up in someone getting an infraction, it may not be popular but I am pretty experienced at this and would like to think my judgment and reading of interactions on here is fairly good.

So I'd rather move everyone along from a circular argument which clearly is not a friendly/constructive debate like mine and yours the other day, than see it devolve into decent posters getting infractions when they piss each other off too much and one loses their cool.

Dammit, Hunter, my post was the most on-point post I've ever produced and you C. Lee'd it straight to hell. :csad:

Sorry man, I am sure you can tap into your mojo again with all the stuff coming up over the next 6 months. :cwink:

It seems some have trouble defending this show, I wonder why... :o

I care about the mythos, but Gotham is over the top instead of being more subtle. Imagine if someone like Jonathan Nolan was the showrunner, then the show would be better written and acted, with higher ratings and happier fans.

On the whole FF thing, if despite the changes, the essence of the characters is still there (personality, powers, etc...), who knows, time will tell. First Class and DOFP were different from the comics but still worked critically and financially, only a minority of haters still whine about it. :word:

It's not that they have trouble defending the show. It's that defending things you love against negativity on the internet is so exhausting and pointless. I no longer indulge in such behavior because there's no point to it. I like what I like, and I couldn't care less about some random person I've never met not liking what I like. I think many others are catching on and no longer bothering with such things either. And by the way, while it's not a juggernaut like The Walking Dead, the ratings are still very good. It's Fox's #1 rated drama and has been since it launched. The DVR numbers and overseas numbers are also terrific. It's also got very good reviews from critics on RT, and the majority of fans I've talked to on social media are starting to like it more and more with each episode now that it seems to have found its footing.

As for your comment about Jonah running the show, I've already seen his Gotham and loved it. But now it's time to move on. I want to see something different. I want a little bit more over the top rather than the Nolan bros signature uber serious vision. I can't imagine why anyone would want a version of this show that is completely devoid of campiness. That would be exactly like TDK, and as I just said, I don't want the same thing again and again. I like seeing different versions of Gotham and the mythos.

It's not your cup of tea, fine. It is mine, though. So i'm going to keep watching it and loving it. And if the mods want to "punish" me for replying to you, so be it. I couldn't care less. It had to be said.

Haven't watched the show since episode 2 but after reading that they'll introduce robins parents is laughable. I mean do we really need to meet every stinking person in batmans rogue and ally gallery before he finally arrives? People can defend this all they want but the flash is opening this show in every aspect currently and atleast they have the balls to show our main hero in his glory and not set it a decade before he showed up with meaningless stories.

Sad to say but take away the penguin and this show would be one of those cheap comic books you gloss at while waiting to check out.

Oh, FFS! What's next, Jack Drake, David Cain, a 25 ish Arnold Wesker or Rupert Thorne?

I'm not an expert in what locations that the circus that the Graysons work for had went to and when. But are you trying to say that they only went to Gotham when Bruce was an adult?

No not at all but you have to assume maybe yes. Comingsoon.net said they will show how ***** parents got together, is that really necessary? His parents like Bruce's only served the story to die and effect out heroes. Just seems like there really stretching it now in terms of showing everything but batman.

I don't think the point of the show is to be about Batman.

It's about what Gotham's like before Batman arrives.

If we get Harley and Joker before Bruce dons the cowl then... *sigh* I don't know... Seriously, if they want to use all these characters, they should have just done a Batman show with Arrow style flashbacks. Or hopefully the show will have a number of time skips, and we'll already get Bruce in college by Season 2.

You people act like all these villains are already fully formed while Bruce is still a kid. Newsflash: Harvey Dent existed before Batman did.

After episode 3, I lost interest in the show. And now, I've not watched episodes 4-, and because it feels like a chore to watch them (which is a bad sign), I've dropped the show.

I'm not going through another Smallville with this, and it seems to me that this is a Batman show without being a Batman show; they can't have it both ways, and yet they're trying to. I can't explain what else is making me drop this show, other than what I just said.

Just make a Batman show, jeez...

No, he didn't. He was born from his mother's womb as a grown man 1 month after Batman arrived in Gotham.

Then focus on the GCPD and the mob sans having most of every villian pre-dating Bats himself

The show has been about GCPD and the mobs for the last 9 episodes. The central character is Jim Gordon not Bruce Wayne.

Then it would be no different than other police procedural. The loopy villains, some of whom are recognizable to the audience, are the hook.

Its getting ridiculous.

This is not how you handle a prequel.

Is it, though?
