Does anyone else feel like Gotham (the city, not the show) doesn't feel that much different from what you would normally see of it even when Batman is operating during his prime years?

I mean you have corrupt officials, dirty cops, crazy villains (though none as bad as the Joker) running around... all of which are present even when Bruce is Batman.

So I gotta ask, what difference would Bruce becoming Batman in this show make in terms of the story?

In terms of how the story would change, there'd be the GCPD's investigation of Batman and probably a bigger emphasis on Bruce's life and relationships.

In terms of how the city would change, I don't think it really would in the long run. Batman would make things a little easier for the GCPD at first, but the villains would just step their game up. Jim Gordon and Batman fight the same never-ending war on crime.

I Believe its the reverse... Instead of The Freaks and Gotham reacting to Batman's presence its actually the other way around.. At least, that is How I see it in this GOTHAM TV Show! ;)

So in other words, Batman (present or not) really doesn't make that much of a difference for Gotham's well being in the long run. That's depressing to think about.lol

Isn't that one of the things explored with Batman? How much good is he for the city when looking at the big picture?

But, I do think those questions wouldn't have been raised if the character was never known for "I'm gonna rid crime in my city!"

I thought they captured the atmosphere of Arkham really well and I dug Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins, there was more chemistry between her and Gordon in that first scene than any of the Jim & Barbara scenes so far.

Good to see The Swede on villain duty and hopefully he'll be a recurring enemy for Gordon as next weeks ep looks great.

The time period of the show still remains vague, one minute there's a reasonably modern looking cell being answered, the next there's a meeting on the docks between two mobsters in old looking cars that could be straight out of the 70's.

Didnt they say they were going for an ambiguous time-period?

Was waiting till the end for Gordon to find the Swede's case file and discover his real name was Crane lol

Ambiguous is on thing, but those two actors pointed out the old days because of that song... as if they were from the 30's. Which doesn't jive, if they want to be ambiguous just let two 45 year old guys drive 70s cars while a 30s song is playing... don't let them comment on the song, that's the issue.

I grew up listening to music that came out decades before I was born, just saying it's not a HUGE error.

And did they comment on the song? I thought they were saying the two of them hanging out together by the docks is what reminded them, dont recall a specific mention to the song that was playing.

Which was only playing in the first guys car on the radio, when he gets into his friends car the song cuts out but you can hear it playing in the first empty car still.

Didn't know that Christ Heyerdahl was going to be in the show... He deserves more screentime everywhere. A great actor and, when I met him, a genuinely nice bloke.

I just say the show takes place during the 1990s.

I think they are just playing the time period as vague like in the Burton films.

BTAS was like that, too. The clothes and cars and Art Deco design elements were straight out of the 40's, yet there were computers and robots and jet planes and a bunch of other modern high-tech elements as well.

Episode 13 features the return of Zsasz, introduction of Flass, and Ratboy from Sons of Anarchy.

For the GOTHAM fans in the Kentucky area....Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot) will be just one of the many guest at the Lexington ComicCon http://lexingtoncomiccon.com/

Stopped reading at "Alfred is Not Alfred". Nope. Nope nope nope.

1. Who Is Harvey Bullock?
Everyone’s asking themselves that very question every episode. He appears to be a corrupt cop with a schizophrenic personality. Is he a good guy or a bad guy? No one knows for sure.

Just curious,
He went after the portrayals of Alfred and Bullock.
Did he say anything about Gordon?

I kind of dig that vagueness though, in regards to the time period. Its what made the animated series so cool. Well, that and lots of OTHER stuff, but you know what i mean... :yay:
