This is episode 16, isn't it? Their originally planned finale. I could see why they'd bring in the hints of Bruce's two biggest supporting characters, Joker and Robin, in that episode. They've probably bumped some overall plot stuff back, but yeah.

“Not necessarily…,” showrunner Bruno Heller tells TVLine, “but it’s not a bait-and-switch or red herring. That character is the true beginning of the Joker saga — the first page of the first chapter of the story that brings the villain known as Joker to life. And that’s what I’ll say about that!”

Like it or not, The Joker Begins.

Gotham twitter just confirmed Joker.

EDIT: Starlord beat me to it.

The silver lining of introducing the Joker in any capacity is that the producers are clearly willing to try anything which includes the possibility of actually bringing Batman into the foray.

IF Batman is going to be a thing in this universe than I can start to back some of the creative decisions the show has made. Otherwise, it is still a big mess and the Joker will just add to it. Maybe they can time jump for season 2 and have the child villains grow up and start to make more sense. Have Bruce f off to nanda parbat so he doesn't take any more screen time and then focus on Gordon making headway in his quest to cleanse the city. Seeding villains like the Venom easter egg and even the way Nygma is being handled are ok. but to full on introduce villains at this stage is a wasted opportunity.

Crane won't be a bad guy for like 15 years, so what was the point of having him show up? Make more original villains or give them full origins like Penguin. Watch Mr. Freeze make a cameo as a frozen sperm or something LOL.

In any case, here is my review of Ep.15 in anticipation for tonights episode.

Here's what I think, and granted this is just my opinion, but I've been watching 'Gotham' since it started and it seems to me that the writers have sort of lost or forgotten what their original goal was.

They've fallen into the trap that I was afraid of happening when I first heard about this show, and that is Batman's world is so huge, and so colorful, that as a writer if you don't have a set goal in mind, and a carefully laid path mapped out of how to get there...it is too easy to get sidetracked and lose your way.

And that's what I fear has happened with this show, it's becoming less and less about Gordon and more and more about 'who are we going to meet next week?!'. It's becoming all about who the next villain appearance will be, and less about any sort of character journey.

I fear the writers had an idea of what they wanted to achieve in the beginning but they didn't map it out good enough so they've lost their way. Hopefully when Season 2 rolls around they'll take a moment to step back and say "Ok what STORY to do we want to tell here?" "If it's Gordon's journey then what is he going to be learning?" etc. And if that means dialing back on the villains other then the main ones (Penguin, etc) then so be it.

They can still turn this around if they refocus on what story they want to tell and stop acting like kids who've just gotten the keys to the toy store. Nonetheless I'll keep watching every week because I love Batman and I DO find the show entertaining and fun, but it bothers me because I know this show could be much better if the writers quit throwing in characters just because they can and put their efforts more into telling a story.

Just my opinion, so go easy on me I'm a newbie on this site. :cwink:

I don't really see any less character journey, especially for Gordon.

He's progressed a lot in the time we've been following him, if you think about it, and essentially we're meeting these villains through his eyes for the first time.

I don't deny that Gordon has progressed a bit, maybe gotten a little more jaded. But I would like to get to know him even more, right now he's just the cop who wants to clean up Gotham and has girlfriend problems.

One of my favorite Episodes was 'Spirit of the Goat' because it allowed us to get to know Harvey a little more, and that's sort of what I want for Gordon, I want to know what makes him tick. Is their a reason he's so devoted to his goal of cleaning up Gotham beyond being...just a good guy?

Hopefully his past will be explored more soon.

And while I love the villains, these last few episodes have felt like "look who is showing up next week kiddies!" I'd wish they'd slow it down a bit, last week we had Crane and tonight we're having Joker (supposedly) is next week Mr. Freeze? Eventually the writers are going to have to work more on developing the characters they've already introduced.

Again, just my opinion. And I do like the show I just feel it could be even better.

My thoughts exactly, Silly Cat. I enjoy the show but I think it has the potential to be truly incredible, compelling television. This show should be about a good cop/person in a dark, corrput, un-fixable city and how that city breaks him down to his core. Thats a compelling story. Thats a story I wanna see week in and week out. However, the show gets caught up in the whole " hey we're in Batman's world so lets bring in kid Poison Ivy, and kid Scarecrow and Kid Joker cause lolz."

We're only in season one and they're bringing in all these Batman characters, theyre gonna blow their wad. Just slow down and focus on the main narrative of Gordon fighting the mob while trying to solve the Waynes' murder and trying to keep himself from being corrupted by Gotham City.

I feel like I say this exact same thing every week. I actually thought this week was good in comparison to most. The side stories were pushed to the end (which is what made the episode worse but it was solid till then) and it gave room for Gordon to do his thing.

I really like Monaghan's portrayal of Jerome. If he does end up as the Joker I wouldn't mind. I just hope they do him justice.

Here are my full thoughts on the episode:

I loved Jim and Lea working together on the case, Morena has breathed fresh life into the show IMO. I also thought the kid playing The Joker did a fantastic job in the interrogation room scene where he finally revealed who he was underneath the timid little boy act.

Leslie is the biggest saving grace for this show... Gordon/Bullock/Wayne are great and all but any terrible aspects with Fish, pointlessness of Penguin, and wishy washy genre busting... all can be 'tolerated' while she's around. I might have to leave again when Barbara gets back to this show heavily again, can't stand her. Ben has 0 chemistry with that actress while Morena he seems awesome with.

Morena knows how to light the screen with just a smile and gives the show some life to it. I agree she has zero chemistry with Mackenzie , but he's pretty stolid and one note, so I don't blame her. If anything, she carries those scenes.

So Dr. Thompkins is eyeing up the 'Merc with a Mouth' too?

Crossover :o

That guy that's teaching Bruce how to fight....

Ted Grant?
plz

Well said. The show is all about progression, and every protagonist has a character arc

Lee/James is really a winning combination, because there is a dynamic between the two of them, something that, along chemistry, was lacking with Barbara. This joker kid is amazing. Man, whas he creepy in this interrogation scene....

I really do hope that they use a time-jump at some point in the future so that we can at least see the satisfying conclusion of how Gordon became Commissioner and how he adapted towards working with someone like Batman.

A time jump to 8 years in future could take us into Batman's Year One which means the show loses focus on Gordon and becomes a Batman centric show.

Not going to happen. lol

lol; well I wasn't exactly asking for that large of a time jump. Maybe like a 3-5 year time jump, where Bruce is older but still not Batman yet....however, he's closer towards becoming Batman and is somewhat of a good fighter by then, so he could partake in more of the active story lines.

Thats a pretty big time jump considering Batman is suppose to show up 6-7 years from now lol

I just hope they cut down the number of episodes for season 2.
