Millar comes up with some great concepts from time to time. As long as they are out of continuity.

But in recent years he's just become too cynical and he relies on shock tactics instead of clever use of transgressive elements to give his stories punch and satirical edges. He's basically become a caricature of himself. Which leaves him as a poor mans Warren Ellis.

this. old man logan made me sick to my stomach.

The acts in that story were some of the most heinous ever done by any character...Marvel has allowed Millar to forever taint the Hulk lore with that story that really served no purpose. :cwink:

I agree as long as become a Hulkish like character isn't a easily repeatable process.

"Old Man Logan" was based off of "The Hills Have Eyes"

In World War Hulks I enjoyed the means by which it was done.

I hate the "Old Man Logan" story...Keep Millar away from Hulk. :cmad:

I liked that Chosen story he did, but he seems to just look for extreme shock value. I'm not saying he's a terrible writer but what I saying is he does not write anything Hulk worth two cents.

I think you can't really judge his Hulk unless he's written 616 Hulk. The Ultimate Hulk and OML Hulk is out of continuity and making him an insane cannibal is just taking the mindless monster concept up a few levels, which i don't really mind.

Millar has this one particular fetish for the Hulk: Old man Logan was incest Hulk, Ultimate Hulk is of course a rapist, and he even originally wanted to end Civil War with the arrival of Hulk with an army of alien spawn made from basically a thousand alien concubines.
It's fairly ****ed up.

He has never written anything inspiring of Hulk, so I can only judge from what he's done...and he did it twice.

I know Marvel future stories are all possible futures, but wasn't Old Man Logan a 616 possibility.

I think it kinda makes sense in a twisted way. Maybe he sees Hulk as the personification of not just Banner's anger, but his deepest, darkest desires.

Well.......... They didn't call it Planet Hulk for nothing. :oldrazz:

The problem I have with that reasoning is that Hulk is supposed to be a misunderstood monster. That's the basic concept...when he's raping, killing or eating people indiscreetly...that kind of leaves no room for the "misunderstood" part. That's just evil and stupid and kills any possibility of a toy-line. :cwink:

That's why it's in alternate universes or time lines. What's the point of doing those stories if you ain't gonna do something different ;)

True, but the Old Man Logan was still in the possible 616verse, not a completely alternate time line. And if that's what's at the core of Hulk then he truly needs to be stopped.

As far as the Ultimates Hulk...there is nothing likable about that character. Nothing to root for at all. He's basically a villain.

Ultimate Hulk wasn't a hero he was jsut a tool to be used.

What about Maestro also killed and threatened to kill people. He was also in a possible future of the main universe that was similar to the Old Man Logan world.

I may get flack for this but I never really minded the Ultimate Hulk. I thought it was a neat twist for the time, and I always interpreted it as Hulk being a direct manifestation of Banner's id; his desires, his deepest emotions and supressed feelings all brought to the surface. It allows us to see that Banner really is a dark man, especially after being bullied and neglected by the team. I always found it to be a little ridiculous that a man could become, essentially, the ultimate rage monster and not wreak havoc/provide human casualties.

I was pretty sure Hulk/Banner had gone mad from radiation poisoning or something in Old Man Logan. I liked Ultimate Hulk, definitely a fresh take on the character, there was also no question as to who the strongest was in the ultimate universe, besides who doesn't love some Hulk smacktalk

I also liked how they expanded on Hulks personality in Ultimate Hulk vs Wolverine where we see that Hulk is intelligent when calm, but pretty much goes bat-crazy and stupid when angry.

I was a little annoyed as to how he magically turned green in Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine, considering he's been gray in most Ultimate incarnations. Artist mistake I suppose.

Was weird But I had no problem with it,I personally prefer Green Hulk over original grey&red!!

Ugh....Red Hulk. What started out as a kind of cool mystery has turned into an oversaturated Loeb trick. It especially ticked me off when he magically was able to beat up half the Marvel universe. And in typical Loeb fashion, Red Hulk is in EVERYTHING now, and tbh, he's not even that interesting now that we know his identity.

For those who've sen the movie,

what was the exact quote Bruce said right before he turned into the Hulk to take down the giant alien serpent thing? About always being angry? I can remember it.
