I know it's a little early to be thinking about this, but given the accolades Ruffalo has been receiving so far: is it conceivable there could be an online movement (similar to the one for Andy Serkis this year) to get Mark's name on the ballots next awards season? Especially when you consider the fact he's essentially playing 2 completely different characters...one of which happens to be CGI. Thoughts?
Loved the movie!! 9.5/10 to me!
And, yeah, Hulk owned the action scenes and Ruffalo was a great Banner, specially in his interactions with Stark.
Also...I'll be less 'gentle' than some posters about the Hulk-Thor comparison. Hulk was clearly the most powerful avenger. ''I have an army''. We have a Hulk'' says it all.
He gets the upper hand in their unfinished battle, before he's distracted.
Also, he was clearly more durable, surviving the fall from the helicarrier, while thor certainly couldn't (he had to break from the cage, flying). Not to mention he took shots from the Jet and was completely unfazed by them while thor had to avoid them.

Thor is quite clearly holding back, since he's trying to calm Hulk down, while Hulk is in full rage thanks to Loki. Seeing how Thor didn't use all of his power, nor had his armor, it said a lot that he even started to push Hulk's arm back before the punch came (even though I'd certainly say that Hulk is supposed to be stronger overall).
I don't see it as certain as Thor couldn't survive that fall. He'd want to get out because it would hurt a lot less. Hulk seemed to be knocked out by the fall so obviously it's something you'd want to avoid.
Again I'm not so sure it's because he has to but because it's more desirable to avoid them, as he's a skilled fighter. He took a 400% burst from Iron Man's armor to the face and didn't seem to care much. He didn't look beat up after his fight with Hulk either.

I think the awards circle is pretty snobbish towards CBMs (the only one that they would reward would probably be TDKR but then they also seem to not like Nolan very much).
Actually if Ruffalo does get any accolades, it probably would be due to the fact that he is from that circle and is well-loved by his peers and filmmakers. They went for his understated performance in The Kids are All Right when there were flashier performances that year so there's definitely an appreciation for his style of acting.
It would be very cool if he gets any recognition and it may lead to more appreciation for actors doing mo-cap. But it's a very slim (to none) chance.
Really, let's stop with this ''Thor was holding back''. He wasn't. He was fighting hard, specially at the end, when Hulk had him on the ground and started tossing him around. Another fact: Hulk survived the fall. Loki dropped thor from there to pu his 'immortality'' to test. It would be a lethal fall and he was struggling to escape, and di it at the last moment. Another fact, thor and loki were evenly matched, there was no ''holding back'' in their fight. Hulk treated loki as if he was nothing.
I won't even mention how easily Hulk took down the leviathan...
The movie was simply amazing, I was sitting there never really knowing what would happen next, the trailers and tv spots haven't really shown anything yet. The Hulk was incredible, had my favourite scenes and gave me the most laughs. I'm from Norway and this is the first time I've heard the crowd clapping, cheering and laughing all together during a movie. To those that have to sit and wait another week, hang in there, try to resist the temptation of spoiling the movie with new clips and such, it's truly amazing to see for the first time on the big screen.

Definitely agree, but who is more powerful is still debatable.
Hulk was more powerful physically as you described, but remember Thor took out what looked like two Leviathans at the same time as well as several of those alien cruisers with that lightning storm, which shows he's definitely on par with Hulk powerwise yet in a different way. On a side note I loved that they had Hulk try to lift the hammer and disturb the ground because he's basically pushing himself down because he can't lift it, subtle but awesome touch. My favorite moments have to be Hulk punching the leviathan, him tossing Loki like a ragdoll, and him punching Thor after they've just teamed up on a leviathan (Hulk really steals the show)

Look, I'm trying to be very objective here. Thor was evenly matched with Loki. Hulk smashed Loki as if he was nothing. Also, no Thor didn't take down two leviathans with lightining. There were only three of them: hulk took down the first and the second (this one with the help of thor) and ironman took down the third.

Thor has had a few battles on film now where he's fought what seemed hard for a while and in the end something much bigger happens. We saw what his heavier strike did in the woods. As I said Hulk is stronger but Thor's powers didn't look to be on full display (certainly no lightning, he obviously puts on his armor for some reason and so on).
You say it yourself, Loki puts the immortality to test. That cage was meant to kill Hulk if necessary, but it doesn't mean that it could actually do it. Hulk smashes most things but Thor didn't look very roughed up after fighting the raging Hulk, and not for lack of Hulk getting shots in.
No holding back in the Loki fight? Remember how the fight in Thor looked the same, until Thor just says "enough" and ends it? I prefer to look at it as Thor holding back (as it's been in comics) rather than inconsistent writing.
Hulk took down the leviathan very easily, but when he didn't get it coming right at him the second time he didn't do the same kind of damage and it was Thor that killed it. Thor stopped quite a lot of bad guys the one time when he actually used his lightning in real battle as well.
I'm fine with someone thinks Hulk is more powerful but I will disagree with someone that says it's not debatable.

Interesting. I'm not trying to doubt you or anything, especially since I haven't seen the film myself yet.lol It's just interesting to see/read this since most, if not all of the posts that I've read from others talking about the Thor and Hulk comparison have said that it came off evenly for them, so it's just interesting to see a new take on this.

I'm not arguing comics (I agree they're equals!); I'm arguing the movie, and, in the Avengers, it's not debatable. Quite a few people here (and in other boards) ha stated the same.
Also, thor's lightining didn't put ironman down. It wouldn't help against the hulk.

I didn't argue comics, I said I prefer to interpret it in a way that it's been in comics rather than interpret it as inconsistent writing. It's one or the other as I see it. We saw that Thor was attempting to calm Hulk down, and we know Hulk was raging to the point where Banner, who had control over him, couldn't control him so he was probably trying to kill Thor.
The Iron Man example doesn't say much either way since he absorbed the energy into his Arc reactor.

That's good because even though I knew he wouldn't be able to lift it I didn't want him to seem weak so that I how I pictured it him crushing the ground
Yes, that would have diminished the entire Asgard part of the MCU in my opinion. If anything like that has to happen, then I think it's Cap who should be able to lift it at some point (although not to wield it much but rather show his pure spirit).
To be honest part o me wanted hulk to lift it but then another part didn't want him too but all I knew is that I didn't want hulk to seem weak while attempting it because then the general audience would see hulk as weak because in Thor when others try to lif it so at least he sunk into the ground to show how much power he put into it

Regardless of how they would have made his attempt to lift Mjolnir look (I think they did it the right way though) I don't think anyone could walk out of the theater thinking Hulk seemed weak in any way.
True but if hulk had attempted to lift it and nothing happened to show how powerful he was(sinking in to ground) then he probably would have looked weak no matter what he did after
Noone other than Thor should be able to pick up his hammer. At least not until the Marvel Universe is a lot more mature. That's a trick/twist that should be saved for a very special occasion if at all.
