Seriously. I've come to realize it doesn't even matter as long as they do a good job. I even watched The Incredible Hulk yesterday and Ruffalo's performance hasn't ruined it for me. I can still see them as the same character just fine. Just at different points in his life. They both made really good Banners. I can't exactly see Ruffalo in a hoodie ducking through alleys and rooftops so it works to have Norton as that version. Just as well it's hard imagining Norton in this movie wearing suits and being so much more...comfortable. I constantly see Norton as scared puppy Banner.

What I liked about Ruffalo's performance as Banner was that he had that underlying simmering anger that Bixby showed when playing Banner. I didn't get any feel of anger from Bana's and Norton's performances. When Ruffalo's Banner was on the Helicarrier and slowly building up his anger whilst everyone was arguing made Banner seem threatening which makes Hulk even more threatening.

Exactly, that was great. You could feel the tension rising in his voice with every sentence. It was awesome.

His traps? His delts are bigger than his head. I just kinda figured that's what makes him Hulk. His hands and feet are ridiculous too. His look in The Incredible Hulk was the most proportionate but I find I like him more when he's a little deformed looking.
I think traps that high looks freakish in a bad way. Yeah, TIH Hulk had good proportions. Loved that look. I can't have any complaints on Avengers Hulk though. As an overall package including Banner he is easily my favourite.

I'll agree with that, and it's one of the most crucial elements to the character IMO. I liked the way he kept clenching and rubbing his hands together, it was a neat little nuance I'd like to see kept in further outings.

The thing about Bixby is that he was an intense, prone to outbursts of anger type of guy in reality, so it was believable anyway, but I think Ruffalo did a lot of subtle things that helped him convey that same type of simmering emotion.

the major problem with the look of ang lee's hulk is the green is way too bright so there was no way on this earth the character would look realistic and what's more the ILM guys were trying to convince ang lee to darken down the character and ang lee wasn't having it. in fact the hulk was a comprimise as ang lee wanted the hulk even BRIGHTER.

darkning down the hulk in the avengers works wonders with making the hulk seem part of the environment

Ang Lee wasn't exactly the best decision maker with regard to the Hulk. He was more interested in filming rocks and DNA, wanted a very bright green Hulk who went round naked and also did the mo cap himself.

Hmmm. I'm not a big fan of his overall look but I actually think TIH Hulks neck looks particularly odd. Kind of like its just a big triangle. .

I think one of the most impressive things about 2003 Hulk was the musculature - it flexed and relaxed etc. The 2008 Hulk looked like a bodybuilder who was always flexing and i think thats because the animators didnt do enough to mimic how muscles actually move when they were chasing the ripped look that Leterrier wanted

Man, The Incredible Hulk was pretty inconsistent with the CGI. I love it all the same, though. Still my favorite of the Marvel movies. Ssso much violence.

About the different Hulks (I'm a little late on that subject, sorry), but this is how I see it

Ang Lee's Hulk was, for the most part, good CGI, but pretty terrible Hulk design and colouring.
Leterrier's was a good Hulk design, looked good in a few spots (throwing the stone against the storm, a couple of close-ups), but overall the CGI was so-so.
The latest Hulk looks like a mixture of both. The muscles look a lot like Lee's, but the face, everything else is just a perfect translation of what the character looks like in the comics. I love the Hulk in the Avengers.

Ruffalo interview with newish quotes from LA Times:

“I think he found his family,” Ruffalo said. “I think it’s really about family in a weird way. All the ego, all the stuff you have to get through to work together, you know. He wants to have a life. Joss, he has him push that cradle, you know, “I don’t always get what I want,” in that first scene. He doesn’t have a life. He doesn’t have anywhere to be. He doesn’t have a family. And maybe this is the beginning of that for him.”

It's because of these little details that Whedon wrote in for Banner that make me interested in seeing where Whedon could take the character to. Banner did not actually have that much screen time (I think he's behind Cap, Stark and BW) but they really maximised every second to show his evolution.

After all the debates, it just seems appropo.

It used to be my favorite before The Avengers. Still love it to death though. Just loved the whole vibe.

Oh I agree on that one. I should have said Avengers prequels. The Avengers trounces 'em all, hands down. The Avengers trounces most Marvel movies and has set the bar for others to follow. If we keep getting more movies like this and X-men: First Class I might just consider myself a Marvel over a DC again...Might.

The movies couldn't be any different, I think it's just sensitivity on both sides. (why there's "sides" to begin with, I'm still not sure )

Do you guys remember the comic-con when they did the Avengers line-up introductions and they booed Mark Ruffalo? I wonder how those people feel now.

I was there. Robert trolled us and said "and reprising his role as Bruce Banner....MARK RUFFALO!"

I felt cheated and well...trolled. The crowd was probably more angry at that. He made it sound like they'd surprise us and say Edward Norton.

If most people have already seen it, it's a loophole.
