One of the many myths the haters came up with.

14 years ago today was the release of Spider-Man 1.

Hopefully next year we a get a 15th anniversary blu-ray or something special.

Are there any deleted scenes from the first movie?

Tomorrow also marks 9 years since the release of Spider-Man 3....It honestly feels like yesterday.

Man, what a time that was. Doesn't feel like yesterday to me. It feels like 100 millennia.:csad:

It's because we've been through a failed reboot since then, and now we have a brand new Spider-Man in the MCU. A lot of water under the bridge since SM-3.

Or over the dam. Wherever you like it...

It does. The build-up to that movie was magical. Never anticipated a movie more than Spidey 3.

Rewatching the first film, I still love it. However, the visual and special effects have aged VERY poorly (what do you expect from a film that is 14 years old now?), and it is obvious when a shot looks "off"

One thing that I still really appreciate is the fact regarding how cheesy the Spiderman and Goblin scenes are up until that one final fight in the abandoned building. They just cut the crap and show Spiderman on the brink of death after two hours of campiness and terrible one-liners

That is true, in the 9 years since Spider-Man 3, the character has been through a lot.

Still, I take some comfort in knowing that, in another universe, there were 2 more Raimi Spider-Man movies, and they were absolutely awesome. My beloved organic webbing lives on in somewhere else. :oldrazz:

Yep, 9 years today it was released in the USA. That is nuts, thinking about when that movie was coming out doesn't seem like it's that long ago but it is and a lot has happened since. Tomorrow night I'm seeing Civil War since it's opening in the States finally, really excited because the movie looks great and really excited hearing about a great Spidey on the big screen again.

So, for about 12 years, a bunch of people (including myself) have said that no action scene in a comic book movie has matched the train fight in Spider-Man 2.

The Airport sequence in Civil War definitely reached those heights for me. One of the most fun and exciting moments in any comic book movie ever, if you ask me. The fight in Spider-Man 2 is still every bit as excellent as ever, but I'm happy to say that there's another action sequence that "wowed me" just as much. It's especially awesome that Spider-Man takes part in both of my favorite CBM action scenes. :awesome:

The train scene still remains the best for me.

Too much talking in the airport scene, it hurt the flow and momentum of the action. Not that it still isn't one of the best action scenes I've ever seen or anything. And the humor in that scene was great.

I loved the airport stuff in Civil war but I still think the train fight is a little better but considering how fast tech improves the fact that this is still even a debate is amazing and shows just how amazing the train fight was for its time and still is.

The airport fight was an amazing action spectacle with awesome characters, it's the most fun action sequence of any superhero movie ever.

That being said the train scene(the fight and the rescue) in Spider-Man 2 is just perfect! The fight choreography is outstanding, it has state of the art special effects and is emotionally powerful. You could show it to someone who doesn't know anything about Spider-Man and they could probably understand everything about the character by that scene alone.

Something about this spider-man just seems so obviously CGI? I know CGI was used in the Raimi series but for some reason even 12 years ago it somehow felt a bit more "real". Like you could picture it being an actual human in a suit doing that and not just a digital creation.

That would be my only real complaint about it. There was certain shots that looked a bit too CGI-ish. Apart from that Spidey was fantastic, and my top highlight of Civil War.

In terms of the aforementioned fight scenes, and which is better, well I am partially biased, but I do think the train fight just slightly edges it for me. I thought the airport scene was nothing short of incredible, but I prefer one on one fights more. I find them more intimate and intense. I loved that the train fight began with the clock tower and ended with that epic rescue of Spidey having to stop the train and saving all those lives.

As a Spider-Man fight, I think the train fight is better. As an overall fight though, it's gotta go to the airport scene. I do think the CGI is a bit jarring, but I chalk it up to the fact that they were also fighting CGI villains in say, Falcon when he flies or Giant Man. I think if they start doing one on one, they'll have some practical effects here and there. One thing that got to me about the Raimi films is how often they would have practical effects in between some of the more fantastical shots of Spider-Man and Doc Ock.

I think it also helps that the Raimi suit would also tear open so we could Tobey underneath it. That's one thing I really dug about the Raimi films, as it would really amp up the intensity of the scene. I hope they actually do that with Holland, but with a super suit from Stark, probably not.

I do love that they showed how strong and durable Spider-Man is.
