What's so shocking about it?

I'd say its sheer ability to raise hype. As you know, I own the film on DVD, and watching that teaser made me look forward to seeing it in the theater.
It seems to be made with the knowledge of just how much the audience needs to see. The ending title screen doesn't say "Spider-Man 3", just "3", because we've see this is for a Spider-Man film. It might be the best teaser of the series.

Most villains don't have a son who is best friends with the hero.

True. But even so, it's like no matter how much they did their death never has any real repercussions ot the story. It's usually, "That's over, let's move on."

And exactly which villain's death do you think should have had bigger repercussions in the sequel?

Two Face's demise in TDK is going to have repercussions on Batman in TDKR.

He's probably the only one. But I think sometimes the villain's death should at least be acknowledged. Batman (in the Burton films) killed the man who gunned down his parents and never said another word about it. Robin watched Two-Face fall (presumably) to his death and that was the end of it. With revenge being such a big motivating factor in their decisions to don their respective masks, you would think fulfilling that vendetta would have made a bigger impact.

That's because writer, Sam Hamm, was vehemently against making The Joker the killer of Batman's parents. He was also against Alfred just letting Vicki into the Batcave without Bruce's say so. Tim Burton considers Batman 1989 a boring movie. You notice in Batman Returns they have a dig at the Alfred letting Vicki into the Cave scene.

As for the Schumacher movies, it's kind of funny you're looking for good story telling there ;)

So are they the only movies you take issues with over the villains demise lacking impact on the sequels?

Off the top of my head, yes. Not too many of the big-screen baddies had an impact on the hero beyond being someone he needed to stop, so I can understand why their deaths would be ignored.
And for the record, I agree with Hamm on both of these. I did think making Joker their killer was a bad idea, and how the hell do you reveal Batman's secret TO A MEMBER OF THE PRESS, WHO IS ONLY IN TOWN IN THE FIRST PLACE TO GET THE SCOOP ON BATMAN-on the strength of one date?!?!?!?!? What, Alfred was just so sure Bruce tapped that @$$ so well there was no way she was gonna sell him out?

Well look at Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. His death wasn't mentioned in SM-3 and it didn't need to have any impact on the story in part 3. There was references to him such as the footage of him in the opening credits. Then of course there was this:

I agree. I like Batman 1989, but there's a lot of plot flaws in it.

I grinned from ear to ear when I saw that in the film.

Remember the goofs who are all "Doc Ock's still alive! I saw the paper in SM3!"

Can't blame them. Who wouldn't want an encore performance from Molina?

Well, I liked that he died with dignity and a good person.
So not me. :D

I don't. :\ Completely out of character for Ock, especially since the entire movie showed his comic side. (Evil, cunning, and smart) Then the end of the movie shows him as a misunderstood good guy. That's not Ock. But either way, Molina was fantastic and we've already gone over my distate for the ending of SM2, so let's NOT revisit this conversation.

It's an interpetation/mix of the character. After Ock becomes evil, his comic counterpart comes out pretty strong overall. IT fit well with the direction of the film and the theme overall.

Btw Joker, I would have LOVED an encore performance as well, lol.

Oh, no, I perfectly agree. It fit perfectly with what the film was going for, but I really wanted to see Ock like his comic version. I wanted him to be evil all the way through.

But like I said, we went through this already.

I think that it was for the best that Doctor Octopus was used as a sympathetic villain in Spider-Man 2. Sam Raimi just doesn't seem to do as well when trying to make a villain menacing, such as with Green Goblin, Venom, and even Harry Osborn to a degree. The former two just came off as cartoonish, and the latter wasn't really allowed to be menacing. Doc Ock, however, was the best villain of the trilogy.

If Raimi had ended the film the same way the comic that inspired the plot of the film ended, it would have been perfect. Ock realizes the Reactor is gonna blow, destroys it to save himself and accidentally brings down the warehouse with him. This would have worked great! Ah, well. It's in the past.

That's an interesting idea!
