In the comics, Spidey's symbiote suit had a wrap around symbol because he was thinking about Spider-Woman's costume when the symbiote covered him, but they can't really do that in a movie without having it...y'know, not make sense.

Yes, you can omit Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman and the design of the black suit would still make sense. Peter can come up with designs like that in a world without Julia Carpenter's Spider-Woman. There's nothing that wouldn't make sense. After all, did Julia Carpenter need to inspire the alien costume's design in Spider-Man: The Animated Series or Ultimate Spider-Man? No. Is anyone confused about the design's origins in said universes? No.

I never understood how peter came up with the red and blue design. I mean, it never showed the hero he got the design from so it was confusing. :D

Why change the symbol at all if you're not going to use the wraparound one?
Well, maybe it's because what looks good in the comics miht not look great on film. I mean, if you look at the making of S-M3 book, they did try the wrap around spider on a different type of textured suit for Spidey. It looked a bit odd, so I think that's one of the reasons they did what they did. Like I said, I had no problems with the suit we got.

I know right? How could a nerd design that outfit? Wouldn't he need the help of a gay dude to come up with such a great design?:lmao:

I don't have said book, but the wraparound symbol looked fine on Venom in the film. What exactly was the problem?

Yeah, they did attempt to use the original design for the alien suit.

Thanks! I'm happy to give insight to those who seek it.

In the comics, the symbiote has the ability to shapeshift, and it patterns its appearance based on the will of the host.
This is why Venom looks like this:

Carnage looks like this:

And Hybrid looks like this:

Thus, shifting into a new Spider-Man costume should be easy.

Why change the symbol at all if you're not going to use the wraparound one?

On the will of the host.

Why would Peter think "Oh, I want a new symbol that wraps around my chest and back"?

If he wanted that, he could have easily done it for his regular suit.

In comics, they're things you can just go with.

But that's not how it works in a 2 hour movie, sorry.

The only real reason how you could give him the classic symbiote suit symbol is...well, he could think of a new symbol. But it just seems odd.

Some SM2 concept art.

Indeed. Less than a year until it turns 50.

Long Live Spider-Man!

On the will of the host.

By that logic, why didn't he use the altered symbol on his regular suit? Or any of the other, subtler differences between the two suits? For that matter, why didn't he make his regular suit black? Why wouldn't the symbiote turn into the red-and-blue costume? The answer would be simple, if you think about it.
A shapeshifting costume could allow Peter to change the costume's look in seconds with a thought. He wouldn't need to sketch out a design, then build it; All he would have to do is imagine the new design, and command the symbiote to change itself into it. It would be like PhotoShop for the real world.

I don't see why audiences couldn't just go with Spider-Man redesigning his costume with the symbiote's shapeshifting abilities.

Because it's a ****ing stupid excuse just to change the symbol without explaining anything.

Unless it would be explained to the audience that Peter can "tell" the symbiote to change its appearance to whatever he wants.

If they ever introduce the symbiote in this franchise, I can almost bet you won't be getting the comic book version of the symbiote suit. You may get some form of a wrap around symbol...(mainly because the new logo is huge, and already stretches down his torso) but the suit itself won't look as simple as it does in the comics.

No. Not in the comics it wouldn't.

Why not?

If that wouldn't work, you could just show Peter using the symbiote's shapeshifting powers to redesign his costume several times before settling on the symbiote design with the wraparound spider.

I meant not unless in the comics. :funny:

And sure. That would be a better idea than just switching into a completely new suit. Would be a good way to show that the symbiote can morph into everyday clothes too.

Hell, have it do both. Peter decides upon the new suit design, and then thinks about his civilian clothes, and then it transforms into his everyday clothes.

Does anyone know how they accomplished the special and visual effects for Venom's mouth in Spider-Man 3?
